The International School of Nice (ISN) was founded in 1977 and was taken over by the French Riviera Chamber of Commerce in 1994. The school's excellent exam results and University placement records have made ISN an essential part of the educational infrastructure on the Cote d'Azur. Located in 1954 within a prestigious private mansion in Parc Monceau in the 8th district, EIB Monceau was the first bilingual school that was founded by EIB. The School comprises over 900 students from the petite section to CM2 (last year of primary) allocated across 3 sites close to the park which are equipped with interactive whiteboards. EIB Monceau is under agreement with the French State school which also includes daily exclusive English classes from the age of 3 in addition to the programs of the French Ministry of Education. Allocated in two sites – Van Dyck and Petit Monceau – our preschool classes welcome children from the petite section. During this first school year, and to help our students to adapt as best possible, we only provide half-day classes (mornings or afternoons only), Monday to Friday, in small-size classes of 15 students. From the Moyenne section (second year of preschool), children have full-time classes, four days a week (except on Wednesday). English classes are led by native English-speaking teachers and by the British National Curriculum from CE1 (2nd year of primary). Carried out daily from the petite section, the duration of these courses gradually increases (30 minutes/day in petite section, 45 minutes in Moyenne section, 1h15 in grande section) and finally represents one-quarter of school time from CP. Children are split into groups based on proficiency (6 levels from CP, from Beginner to Bilingual) from the Moyenne section, and also have music lessons provided by a qualified English-speaking teacher. During the end of the last year of primary, if they wish, students can take the YLE Starters of the Cambridge English Young Learners, which is the standard English language exam as part of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment, CEFR. Students who are joining our primary school from CM1 (4th year of primary) or CM2 (last year of primary) need to meet minimum English level requirements. However, beginners may be accepted on a case-by-case basis, on condition that they attend intensive courses before the start of the school year in September as well as the Wednesday morning English workshop “Let’s Take Off!” during their first year at EIB. Please note that, if they wish, children can take Chinese or Spanish classes in primary school at a rate of 2 hours a week, provided they have a good level of English and French. Every Wednesday morning, children are offered three hours of English immersion that include artistic, cultural, and playful activities to strengthen the English learning process with 9 hours of English per week (1/3 of school time). In addition to the curriculum with State contract, and because the educational project of EIB wants to offer its students a multilingual international environment, the teaching team at Monceau bilingual school (75008) has developed a unique immersion class system for students who wish to follow the French curriculum with State contract but who have not yet mastered French. Founded by Jeannine Manuel in 1954, the then Ecole Active Bilingue became an associated UNESCO school in 1957. Since 1959, the School has also been linked to the French national education system through a « contract d’association » with the Ministry of Education, which provides substantial subsidies to independent schools in France. In 1979, the School changed its name to Ecole Active Bilingue Jeannine Manuel (EABJM) and moved to its current main campus, 70 rue du Théâtre in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. The Cité Scolaire Internationale (CSI) of Lyon aims to welcome students wishing to follow an international school curriculum within the French education system leading to the OIB (International Option of the Baccalaureate). The CSI hosts nine International Sections: English-speaking (subdivided into high school into English and American sections), German-speaking, Spanish-speaking, Italian-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, Japanese-speaking, Polish-speaking, Chinese-speaking, Arab-speaking. These nine International Sections are present from elementary school to high school. If the elementary school and the college welcome exclusively students of Sections Internationale, the high school also welcomes pupils of the geographic sector. The Anglophone or English-speaking Section is part of the Cité Scolaire Internationale (CSI) in Lyon, a French state school with international sections. We offer children who are already fluent in English and education unique in the Lyon area: an English as a first language syllabus (native or near-native level), within the French state system. The Anglophone Section is the largest in the CSI, with over 500 pupils. We teach children from Primary through to High School. All section pupils get the best of both worlds: the rigor for which the French system is justly proud, combined with the encouragement for creativity and self-expression that is a feature of Anglophone educational practice. Anglophone section pupils leaving the CSI are well equipped to continue their education anywhere in the English-speaking world. They sit the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB), a bilingual diploma which is the French Baccalaureate with its additional component, the International Option. The OIB is equivalent to a British A-Level (British Option) or Advanced Placement (American Option) and is recognized by Anglophone universities worldwide. CSI students also sit the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) in English, as students in the UK. Although part of the French state system, the Anglophone Section is fee-paying, run by a non-profit making association, the Association des Parents d’Elèves de la Section Anglophone (APESA), governed by a parent board. If there is one philosophy to retain about EPBI, it’s the one about open-mindedness to the world and international awareness. With various nationalities already present at our school but also an international curriculum that promotes bilingualism, “multicultural” is the adjective at the heart of our school in Baillargues. EPBI welcomes pupils from the age of 2 to 18. It offers a bilingual education through to the end of the 3ème and then offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to the sixth form pupils. The school is also an official Cambridge exam preparation center for pupils aged 7-18 years. We would like to congratulate our pupils on all their hard work which reflects the high standards of this school. we would also like to congratulate our teachers for their implication and passion for teaching, their ability to transfer knowledge and prepare your children for exams efficiently. Our pupil's desire to learn has become contagious creating pupils who are accomplished, happy and motivated. This is present everywhere in the corridors of our school. Next year, We will have the honor of presenting our first set of students for the IB Diploma Programme. With a particularly enthusiastic and recently trained teaching team (through rigorous IB workshops) two separate 1st year IB classes were set up this year, one in French and the other in English. This project was presented to you in my letter last year. International Baccalaureate The IB Diploma is very sought after by the most prestigious universities in France and the world. Our students have already validated part of their continuous assessment work which is marked internally by our teachers. This particular philosophy and atmosphere that has stemmed from the IB students and staff has transcended the whole school. Students are placed at the center of their learning and knowledge acquisition they have matured in their relationship with the school and have got involved in highly ambitious projects. We have noticed this maturity and hunger for knowledge that has prevailed at our school this year, driven by our IB students. Being witness to such to this desire for knowledge has helped me to come up with another new project for the school, for you, for our pupils and parents: it is the secondary school IB program or Middle Years Programme (MYP). Life is not only a question of knowledge and learning at school, it is also having the opportunity and the ability to develop a project and discover the world. This is something that is illustrated by EPBI through its diverse initiatives. Thanks to the investment made by our teaching staff and also by our students, we were able to: organize a cross country fun run uniting all the children at our school, including teachers, students, and families: participate in the Montpellier-Reine run for research in breast cancer: work with a charity to provide toys and books for orphans in Madagascar. As we have been doing for 30 years, we have also helped our pupils discover new horizons: Ireland, The Basque Country, and the class verte. EPBI is not only a school.
