It was in the second semester of 1997, through a prophetic utterance by Dr. Bill Hammond that God birthed Kingdom Academy. Approximately seven years before this, God shared His dream for this school with the leadership of the church and sent us on a mission to various other schools to establish His perfect will. After only four months, on the 2nd of February 1998, His dream became a reality when the school started humbly with only 27 children. In what was seemingly a small beginning in 1998, we began to see something far greater than what most of us could have imagined. The rich history of the Royal Bafokeng Nation can be traced back to 1140 and is characterized by a spirit of independence, adaptability, and foresight. Under the insightful leadership of Kgosi Mokgatle, who reigned from 1834 to 1891, the men of the Bafokeng left Phokeng to raise money by working on the diamond mines in Kimberley. As black South Africans could not own property at that time, the Bafokeng Nation pooled its money and bought land with the help of Lutheran missionaries, who fronted the purchases and then held it in trust for the community. In the 1920s, platinum deposits were discovered on Bafokeng land, which led to a wave of encroachment over the years by m…

Maritzburg College was founded as Pietermaritzburg High School in 1863 to accommodate the influx of children arriving at the new city of Pietermaritzburg as well as those from the surrounding farmlands in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. As the school grew, ‘the best-trained architect in the Colony’, Mr. PM Dudgeon, was commissioned to design, on the then outskirts of the city, a larger classroom and boarding block. Completed in 1888, this building later became known as Clark House, honoring the school’s third headmaster, Mr. RD Clark (MA (Oxon)), who is often referred to as ‘the Father of College’. It shows the courageous St George standing on the dying dragon, while the maiden Truth stands beside him. The Border is famed for its tradition of fine schools.
