In 2017, the University of Hertfordshire celebrated 25 years of being a university and 65 years of delivering first-class higher education. Then, in 1952, Hatfield Technical College was built by Hertfordshire County Council. We achieved university status in 1992 and are now focused on becoming internationally renowned as the UK's leading business-facing university. The university has recently invested £76 million in the new Stockwell Street building to house the extensive campus library, TV studios, editing suites, and academic facilities for a range of disciplines. The Business School is an integral part of one of the world's oldest universities. Granted its royal charter in 1582, it has remained at the forefront of learning throughout its long history. In 1916, the University was encouraged by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce to consider instituting a degree suitable for study by its members. In October 1919, we had the first students start on our Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree. In the same year, the Chair of Accounting and Business Method was also founded, the first in Scotland. Originally part of the Faculty of Arts, these initiatives led to creation of the Department of Business Studies and the Department of Accounting an…

The University of Chichester can trace its origins back to 1839. In the early part of the 19th century, there was considerable debate about the Church and the state's role in university education. In 1828 students were accepted for the first secular university institution in the country, which later became University College London. In response, it was felt that London needed another university institution where the role of the Church would be formally recognized. In 1829 King's College London was established, with William Otter as its first Principal. William Otter moved on to become Bishop of Chichester in 1836 and took a genuine interest in promoting education. Af…

The University of Chester has been making history since 1839 when such pioneers founded it as the great 19th-century prime ministers, William Gladstone and the Earl of Derby, and a former Archbishop of Canterbury. It is one of the oldest English higher education establishments of any kind, pre-dating all but Oxford, Cambridge, London, and Durham. Its original buildings in the Roman city of Chester were the first to be purpose-built for the professional training of teachers. The Dean and Chapter of Chester Cathedral donated land on Parkgate Road for this endeavor. In 1842, Gladstone opened the College's original buildings for its first intake of 10 male student teachers on…

Buckingham is unique. It is the only independent University in the UK with a Royal Charter, and probably the smallest with around 2,000 students (approx 1,300 on campus). Honors degrees are achieved in two intensive years of study. We keep class sizes small, with a student: academic staff ratio of 10.5:1, and the Oxbridge style tutorial groups are often personalized and always exhilarating. The University campus is well known for being one of the most attractive locations in the region. The Great Ouse river, home to much wildlife, winds through the heart of our campus. Much of our teaching occurs in our restored buildings, such as the Franciscan Building, formerly a friar…
