  1. The University of Glasgow has been named Scottish University of the Year 2018 by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide. We were also shortlisted for the UK University of the Year award, having jumped nine places into the top 20. We saw improvements in rankings for: graduate prospects completion rates [the proportion of students graduating with a first or 2:1 is above 83%] teaching quality student experience entry standards We are also ranked 1st in the subjects of animal science, dentistry, and education. "Glasgow is in the midst of one of the biggest capital spends for a Scottish university - around £1bn over the next decade - with the redevelopment of the former Western Infirmary site, which will reshape the city's West End. It is a great example of the transformational role that universities can play, not just in individual lives but in communities more widely and regional and national domains. It recruits internationally based on its outstanding reputation for research. It has avoided the pitfalls of others in Scotland in providing a student-centric undergraduate experience alongside that. Glasgow's success in the annual National Student Survey is no accident - and neither is its recognition in our University of the Year awards for 2018." Our vision is a world-class, world-changing university; our mission: To bring inspiring people together and create a world-class environment for learning and research, empowering staff and students to discover and share the knowledge that can change the world. The shared motivations and beliefs which bring our community together. We are Creative, curious, and deeply committed to the pursuit and sharing of knowledge. Dedicated to our students, actively seeking to develop their skills, knowledge, understanding, and sense of citizenship. Ambitious, adventurous, and confident, with the courage to accept and balance the risk of failure with reward in the pursuit of progress. The higher education landscape continues to change rapidly. Since our 2010-15 strategic plan, many challenges have arisen: but these also bring new opportunities. The global higher education sector is more competitive than ever. New providers are emerging in the UK and abroad, and universities respond by raising the bar of what constitutes a quality higher education experience. However, we believe that the University of Glasgow has the vision, resources, people, talent, and commitment to meet these challenges head-on and remain a destination of choice for staff, students, research funders, and other external partners. Demand for higher education is coming from increasingly diverse sources. The number of students across the world seeking a degree continues to grow. However, they often wish to be educated in their own country, leading to global education opportunities. The rise of innovative learning models, including online learning, distance provision, and workplace CPD, provide fresh avenues for growth as the higher education sector adapts to the needs of a more connected society. Reductions in public spending over the next strategic planning period are expected to limit national funding availability for teaching and research. However, exciting new opportunities are emerging to grow our revenue elsewhere, including innovative strategic partnerships with industry and other external bodies, research funded by the European Research Council, and large-scale interdisciplinary projects. 6. Children who are happy, respected, secure, and encouraged will do well. They will thrive. They will be open to getting involved, working hard, and making the most of the opportunities and challenges around them. They will be open to doing their best in every circumstance and to developing a sense of responsibility for themselves and the needs of others and the wider world. Here at the High School, we are firmly wedded to the belief that to nurture the whole child the values and ethos described above must be provided for within an atmosphere of tolerance, care, and positive relationships. These values underpin all aspects of our daily life across classrooms, corridors, expressive arts, sport, and beyond. They also allow our young people to have the opportunity to experience an all-around rich and supportive learning environment in which they can develop their potential to the full and are encouraged to aspire for excellence in all they do. The High School of Glasgow is a vibrant, caring, and high-achieving co-educational day school for pupils between the ages 3-18, which has been part of Glasgow’s story since the 12th century. We aim to create a happy and nurturing community in which each individual is enabled to develop their all-around potential from the academic to sport, the expressive arts, and beyond. Our young people are encouraged to develop a sense of responsibility and to pursue excellence in all their activities and opportunities. Drawing upon our Christian background and being a school community open to all faiths and none, our ethos promotes the importance of positive relationships, seeking to foster an atmosphere of mutual tolerance and support, traditional values, and a concern for others. We benefit from excellent resources, modern purpose-built accommodation, and having our playing fields on campus. High School pupils take a positive and enthusiastic approach to the opportunities before them and demonstrate great fun, creativity and energy in all aspects of their school life. In the end, we wish to see them develop into well-rounded, confident, articulate, and caring young people who will seek to make a difference in life.
