      1. Buckingham Browne & Nichols is a day school in Cambridge that engages boys and girls in grades pre-K (called Beginners) through 12 in a rich and invigorating educational experience of the highest quality. The school excels at helping students discover their unique talents and passions and develop them to the fullest. The curriculum is challenging, forward-thinking, innovative, and flexible, designed to help qualified students from a range of backgrounds and with a range of talents and interests reach new levels of accomplishment. Co-curricular opportunities in athletics, the arts, community service, and other areas add important dimensions to students’ learning. Students learn on three age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate campuses. The Lower School (Beginners through grade 6) and Middle School (grades 7 and ? are a short walk from Harvard Square. The Upper School (grades 9 through 12), on the banks of the Charles River, is about a mile away. At every grade, we take full advantage of the range of opportunities our location affords us. We are a community of engaged learners and compassionate people who embrace the school’s motto: “Honor, Scholarship, Kindness.” This creates an environment where students become active citizens in our school community, and where they feel comfortable taking the kinds of intellectual risks that are vital to learning and growth. BB&N has an eclectic student body with students from a wide range of backgrounds throughout the Greater Boston area. The diversity of interests, experiences, and perspectives students bring with them to BB&N is one of our greatest strengths. They learn from gifted faculty and each other as they embrace the challenges of a premier educational experience. Students come to BB&N with intellectual curiosity and an eagerness to learn. They leave with a clearer sense of what’s possible, well prepared for the next step in their lives, and with a very good idea of which direction to take it. BB&N’s mission is to promote scholarship, integrity, and kindness in diverse, curious, and motivated students. The School prepares students for lives of principled engagement in their communities and the world. Our values: We value a learning environment distinguished by a broad, deep, and challenging program of study that inspires thorough, sustained engagement among our students. We value a diverse and inclusive community that fosters respect for the identities and perspectives of all. We value balancing a culture of high expectations with a strong commitment to supporting intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being. We value kindness and compassion among all members of our community. We value the widespread, authentic connection with students that our teachers, coaches, and mentors seek to cultivate. We value a program that reinforces key characteristics for 21st-century success—especially creativity, curiosity, resilience, and teamwork. We value the importance of helping students develop keen ethical standards in their behavior, habits of thought, and decision-making. We value a vibrant, healthy, and safe community where engagement and risk-taking promote lifelong learning. We value encouraging our students to learn and serve in their local, regional, and global communities. We value a well-rounded education that offers our students ample opportunity to explore, evolve, and excel in academics, arts, athletics, and all phases of school life. First and foremost, families choose BB&N because we offer an education of the highest quality, delivered in a distinctive style. There’s a messy vitality to learning here, a palpable energy, and it grows from close relationships between motivated students and skilled, dedicated educators. Learning is intense and challenging, but also creative, invigorating, and vibrant. Our students are bright, inquisitive, and curious. They are mainstream, iconoclasts, and everything in between. They are BB&N, and what they bring to school with them every day contributes in a huge way to the learning and growth of everyone in our community. Most important is the impact that the BB&N experience has on each student. We excel at opening students’ minds to new possibilities, helping them uncover their potential and tap it to the fullest. After BB&N, they succeed in the finest colleges and universities, and in all that follows. Our teachers, coaches, and advisors make it their mission to establish an authentic connection with students in their classrooms, labs, studios, and playing fields. Our faculty create a learning atmosphere that both challenges and cares for students. In the striking of this balance, magic happens. There is no such thing as a BB&N “type.” We take pride in the diversity of backgrounds, talents, and interests of students. You’ll learn as much from your classmates as you do from your teachers, and that’s saying a lot! We make a guarantee to students as they start their journey at BB&N: You will discover at least one (and usually more) passion during your time here that you wouldn’t have imagined on day one. The opportunities are boundless here and we encourage students to explore new challenges, to embrace new interests. View full school

      3. Our school has an extremely positive ethos where the quality of care, welfare, and safety are excellent. Consequently, pupils feel secure, have very good attitudes to learning, and develop great confidence in their time with us. We are now a three-form entry Primary School with nursery provision. Buckingham Primary is a Community school and admission arrangements are determined in agreement with the local authority. The Admissions Authority for our school is the London Borough of Richmond upon the Thames which publishes its entry regulations every year. Our governing body applies the regulations on admissions fairly and equally to all those who wish to attend this school by the Local Authority. If you live within the borough and still need to apply for a place because you missed the deadline or recently moved to the area, please contact School Admissions for an application. If you do not live in the borough, you need to apply through your council and you can include Richmond schools on your application form. Richmond residents will receive a letter notifying them of the outcome of their application regardless of the application method. Applicants who applied online and were offered their first preference school will receive an online notification only. At Buckingham Primary School, we recognize that the children’s spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development plays a significant role in their ability to learn and achieve. We, therefore, strive to provide all children with equal opportunities to explore and develop their own set of values and beliefs, spiritual awareness, high standards of personal behavior, a positive and caring attitude towards others, an understanding of their own social and cultural traditions and an appreciation of the diverse cultures around them. We believe SMSC is the heart of what education is all about, as well as helping the children to grow and develop as unique individuals. SMSC is cross-curricular and closely linked to PSHE, RE, and British Values. It enhances each subject and underpins the school's motto of Believe, Persevere, and Succeed. We are delighted to have received a grading of “Good” in our most recent Ofsted Inspection in October 2015 and are very proud of our report and the exceedingly positive outcomes. This is a very caring and happy school that sets high standards and believes the relationship between school, pupil, and home is strongest when all are working together towards a common goal of success. We believe that this success will be best achieved within the vibrant and organized learning environment that Buckingham Primary can provide. Buckingham Primary school is a maintained school and is supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, including those with specific needs, make the best possible progress in the school. Buckingham School adheres to ensuring that all children are allowed to fulfill their potential. We are committed to raising attainment and promoting inclusion. The school will seek to identify and address all possible barriers to learning. All parents and carers are automatically members of the Parent/Carer Teacher Association. We have an elected committee and we meet up monthly to discuss fundraising for the school and then discuss a variety of ideas as to how the school should spend the money raised. The committee and other members then give their time to plan and organize all the events such as the cake sales, discos, and the summer fair. The meetings are quite relaxed and very much open to all. We share ideas for raising money. All ideas and suggestions are welcome. If you cannot make the meetings, you can be put on the email list and add your input that way. The pupil premium funding, which is additional to main school funding, is a key way of closing the academic achievement gap between pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as from less deprived families. From September 2015, the premium is worth £1320 and goes to pupils who at any point in the past 6 years have received Free School Meals (FSM) £1,900 goes to any pupil who has been continuously looked after for the past six months or who has been adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 or who has left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order finally £300 goes to pupils whose parent/parents are currently serving in the armed forces or are in receipt of a pension from the Ministry of Defence. The key impact measure is the achievement of pupils in receipt of the pupil premium and how this compares with the achievement of other pupils. The achievement of all pupils is regularly analyzed by class teachers and the leadership team. If children are at risk of making less progress than other pupils, interventions are put in place to help them 'catch up. Closing the gap data is produced for each year group and this is reported to governors. View full school

      7. Buckingham is unique. It is the only independent University in the UK with a Royal Charter, and probably the smallest with around 2,000 students (approx 1,300 on campus). Honors degrees are achieved in two intensive years of study. We keep class sizes small, with a student: academic staff ratio of 10.5:1, and the Oxbridge style tutorial groups are often personalized and always exhilarating. The University campus is well known for being one of the most attractive locations in the region. The Great Ouse river, home to much wildlife, winds through the heart of our campus. Much of our teaching occurs in our restored buildings, such as the Franciscan Building, formerly a friary, and Chandos Road Building, a converted turn-of-the-century milk factory. At the same time, students can also enjoy the Hunter Street Library, once military barracks. Each student mixes with 89 different nationalities and so being at Buckingham is just like being in a mini global village. These contacts, acquaintances, and friendships carry on long afterlife at Buckingham are over. Buckingham is the only University independent of direct government support in the United Kingdom and has used its independence to pioneer a distinctive approach to higher education. On 27 May 1967, The Times published a letter from Dr. J. W. Paulley, which said, "Is it not time to examine the possibility of creating at least one new university in this country on the pattern of those great private foundations in the USA, without whose stimulus and freedom of action the many excellent state universities in that country would be so much poorer." Several people took up this idea in the business and academic worlds, and three London conferences followed, two in 1968 and one in early 1969. Active supporters included Max Beloff, then Gladstone Professor of Politics at Oxford and later Principal of the University College at Buckingham, Professor Harry Ferns, and Ralph Harris. Harry Ferns and Ralph Harris were both prominent members of the Institute of Economic Affairs, an organization whose ideas have played a significant role in the development of the University. A suitable site was found in Buckingham. On 29 March 1973, the University College at Buckingham (UCB) was incorporated in a non-profit making company registered as an educational charity. The Council of Management held its first formal meeting on 3 April 1973. Lord Hailsham, the Lord Chancellor, became the first Visitor of the College and laid its foundation stone in May 1974. UCB was formally opened in February 1976 by the Rt. Hon. Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, MP, as former Secretary of State for Education. It had 65 students. Buckingham is the only private University in the United Kingdom. It was opened in the 70s when I was the Cabinet Minister in charge of Education and Science: to see it flourish and prosper had been a great joy to me. From the outset, the academic standards for Honours degrees needed to be directly comparable with those of the established British universities. The term 'Licence' was used to describe the qualifications of Honours level awarded by the University of Buckingham, and it was decided: that degree would be externally examined in precisely the same way as other universities, using examiners drawn from the ranks of Britain's most reputable academics. that an Academic Advisory Council would be set up, consisting of 37 senior British academics and an International Advisory Council of 52 distinguished overseas university professors with a wide range of experience and influence. As a result of the high standards set, recognition by distinguished associations followed swiftly. The Law Society, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the Institute of Bankers, and many more accepted the Licence. In March 1983, the College was incorporated as The University of Buckingham by a grant of a Royal Charter, just seven years after it opened, satisfying the Department of Education and Science and the Privy Council that the standard of education was the highest level. Following this grant, the traditional nomenclature of Bachelor's Degree (BA, BSc, LLB) was used. By 1984 student numbers had increased to 500 – the demand for places had never been higher, with a ratio of applications to acceptances at 8:1. The three year period 1982-1985 brought significant changes, not only as a result of the Charter but also in the campus buildings' development. The comparatively small size of Buckingham, with steady rather than explosive growth, has been a blessing and has made it easier for the University's founders' ideas to be tested, not only in academic terms but also in admissions policy, buildings, and organization. Buckingham sees itself existing side by side with the state-controlled universities. However, it seeks to influence by its example, the content and method of higher education and provide students with an alternative to institutions in the public sector. It now rests on firm foundations, providing traditional small-group Oxbridge-style teaching alongside the best of the new technology in a community with the vitality of an independent enterprise. It became a registered charity on 4 May 2011, registered charity number 1141691.
