It is a very crucial and exciting moment and at the same time, you’ll realize that your child is growing up. Brighton International School (BIS) is committed to providing high-quality and affordable education for all of you. BIS offers Cambridge Curriculum for both primary and secondary as well as A-Levels. The strategic location gives easy access to all the parents who wish to drive their children to the school before engaging in their daily business as well as for students who would like to reach the school with our dedicated transport system. Our philosophy is to encourage our students to be intellectually inquisitive, receptive, dedicated, and able to express their ideas confidently. 2. Everything we do at Brighton College can be traced back to the desire to create a climate where pupils are happy. That's why we encourage young people to follow their curiosity and explore all aspects of school life. Our teachers inspire excellence in the classroom, our co-curricular activities enable pupils to immerse themselves in the arts and a huge variety of sports, and our social enrichment program helps bring meaningful change to the world around us. If you were to ask current parents why they chose Brighton College for their son or daughter, they would tell you the children here are cheerful, balanced, at ease with themselves and each other - yet excited and enthused by the challenges before them. They might add that the College succeeds in combining academic excellence with a wealth of co-curricular opportunities, all underpinned by a deep commitment to the individual needs and enthusiasms of each child. At Brighton College, we focus first on the thing that matters most – personal happiness. We know young people flourish when they are treated with love, kindness, and respect. So we celebrate the uniqueness of every individual, whether that person is shy or confident, sporty, scholarly, or both. We want pupils to be true to themselves, happy in their skins, and kind to one another. As The Sunday Times commented in 2019: ‘The currency at Brighton is kindness, pure and simple’. Everyone’s life can be transformed by an inspirational teacher. And here at Brighton, we have inspirational teachers in abundance. Ask any pupil when you visit what makes Brighton special and one of the first things they will say is ‘our amazing teachers’. Their passion, commitment, and kindness explain why Brighton College is now one of the highest performing schools in the world. We believe that educational practices need to evolve. To enable this, our facilities have been designed to be more than functional: they use space, light, and resources to inspire both teachers and pupils. Our buildings have won numerous architectural awards for their innovative designs and help make Brighton College the most forward-thinking school in Britain. We focus on creating an environment of kindness and inclusivity, where everyone looks out for one another, to enable pupils to flourish personally, academically, and spiritually. There are no stereotypes here – there is no Brighton ‘type’. We enjoy admitting all types of the individual – and we strive to turn out pupils who are kind, confident, and curious. Our aims: Brighton College seeks to impart or provide: A love of learning for its own sake A foundation of knowledge and body of skills with which to understand and question the world we live in and to prepare us, through an innovative approach to education, for the world we are likely to inhabit in the future An awareness of, and appreciation of, the spiritual dimension in our lives Enthusiasm for the world beyond the classroom - in particular, sport, music, and the performing arts A respect for difference in others and a recognition that the efforts and achievements of every individual in our community are valued equally An awareness of the needs of others, and a firm belief that - whatever our age - we can make a difference, locally and globally, right now. In short, we strive to turn out well-educated, tolerant, and intellectually curious young adults who are ready to take a full, active and positive rôle in the life of our country and of our world. 3. We are a learning community passionate about developing, inspiring and guiding a boy on his journey to manhood. The learning journey at Brighton Grammar School starts with one small step – whether your son is entering the Early Learning Centre, the Junior School, our Middle School, or even as a senior boy for the VCE years. Every stage of the journey through our School has been carefully designed to bring out the best in your son and to give him choice and opportunity to become the person he wants to be as he makes his way towards manhood. This is never a solo journey supporting each boy is a staff of people expert in teaching boys who have actively chosen to join a school that teaches only boys. Our staff really get to know the boys because not only do they teach them in the class room, but they coach or manage sports teams, get involved in drama, chess, debating and music, attend outdoor education camps and manage the pastoral care program. One of the great strengths of our school is the way in which boys feel a sense of belonging and that they are known. Our tagline is ‘we teach boys’ – at one level an obvious claim. However, ‘we teach boys’ actually highlights our expertise in understanding boys, celebrating boys and knowing HOW to teach boys. Our School’s four core values underpin everything we do as a community Passion for teaching and learning. Respect for people and everything around us. Integrity in behaviour and decision making. Accountability for our actions, contributions and achievements. BGS was founded as a school for boys by Dr George Henry Crowther in 1882. Since then, BGS has had an unbroken history in turning generations of boys into successful men. Through significant and ongoing investment in facilities, staff and new teaching techniques BGS has been able to constantly adapt to an ever changing world to ensure that our students have the skills and self-belief to meet the demands society places on men. While the fundamentals of education are the same for either gender, boys thrive in a culture that understands, accepts and celebrates the masculine without conforming to stereotypes about what it means to 'be a man'. BGS offers the only boy-specific ELC learning program in Victoria. It’s delivered with a sense of fun, curiosity, caring, celebration, opportunity and love, which supports the boys in our care. This is your son’s first step into education – visit us and you’ll see why he couldn’t get a better start. Because we know the relationship between a boy and his teachers is core to how he values learning and his ultimate success at school, great effort is invested in the primary years on ensuring these relationships are positive and nurturing. It took years of research, design and construction to create the perfect environment for our Year 7 and 8 boys to grow, learn and thrive. It’s challenging. It’s different. It’s worth learning more. Underpinning everything we do in the Senior School is our belief that you don’t know what you can do unless you ‘give it a go’ – and when you do, keep striving to do it better every time. Learning the lessons of effort, persistence and adaptability will ensure these boys thrive, both at school and beyond the gates.

      5. The University of Brighton has been part of Brighton & Hove since 1859, starting as a school of art in the kitchens of the Royal Pavilion and growing to become the diverse and inclusive institution it is today. We have more than 21,000 students and 2,800 staff studying and working at our five campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne, and Hastings. Subjects taught here range from medicine to engineering, psychology to illustration, sport science to English literature. Students are at the heart of all that we do and take an active role in their learning experience. They leave us ready to make a difference in the world. Nurturing creativity is key to ensuring we continue to grow and develop our activities. We are committed to creating new, radical, and exciting opportunities for our students, staff, and community. We recognize the scale of the challenges we face as an institution, society, and world and place value on tackling these creative and innovative ways. We recognize and value the critical importance sustainability has for the future of our students, staff, partners, and community. Whether it is through buildings of the future, a strong and protected financial position, or the long-lasting knowledge and support we give our students and staff – sustainability will be highly valued, underpinning decisions we make and the activities we do, now and in the future. The partnership is at the core of who we are. Through the partnership, we create distinctive educational programs, we share and disseminate our research and enterprise, and we create mutual benefit to our city, our region, and globally. They are critical to our success as an institution. The University of Brighton is committed to providing a fair environment that embodies and promotes equality of opportunity. We value the different contributions and experiences of all who make up our community, promoting mutual respect and understanding as well as freedom of thought and expression. We have held an institutional Athena SWAN Bronze Award since 2013 and became in 2017 one of only a handful of higher education institutions nationally to achieve an institutional award under the new expanded charter, which recognizes success in developing gender equality across all academic disciplines. We are also a member of the Race Equality Charter and are committed to improving the representation, progression, and success of minority ethnic staff and students at our university. We are a proud Stonewall Diversity Champion, a program that supports and promotes fair practice about the employment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender staff, reaffirming our commitment to equality for LGBT+ staff and students. At the University of Brighton, we believe we must respond to the imperative of sustainable development. We realize that a community of our size has a significant impact on our shared environment. Every one of us has a part to play in order to conserve resources better and reduce pollution. We define sustainability as one of our core values, which we resolve to continually research and put into practice, demonstrated by getting a First Award out of 154 universities in People & Planet's University League 2017. The university has been awarded £2.98m to deliver the Green Growth Platform, a strategic five-year project designed to support growth among regional SMEs working in environmental and low-carbon sectors. There's a lot going on at the University of Brighton, and you don't need to go on a traditional course to take advantage. As part of our commitment to widening access and participation, many of our events and facilities are open to residents. So if you live near one of our campuses, why not come and get involved? The University of Brighton hosts Learning Opportunities in the South East, which provides information and advice on education, skills, and careers from all providers in the region. The service is available to all and is particularly useful for adults either in work already or looking to return to work. Find out more about Learning Opportunities. The Eastbourne campus has a select membership option for people over 55, which offers exclusive classes, pool and gym times, and other health and wellbeing initiatives. The gym also offers general class timetables for residents of all ages. The University of Brighton has steeped in history. Since its humble beginnings 150 years ago, in the kitchens of the Royal Pavilion, many institutions have come together to make it one of today's leading modern universities. We can trace our origins back to the mid-19th century in Brighton and the mid-20th century in Eastbourne. Since being granted university status in 1992, the university has grown steadily. More than 7,000 students graduate each year in various subjects as diverse as automotive engine design, law with accountancy, midwifery, three-dimensional design, architecture, and pharmacy. We have picked out key moments that have shaped and defined the institution to explore how we got here. The following is a pictorial overview of the milestones and significant landmarks in the University of Brighton's history.

      7. Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is an equal partnership between the Universities of Sussex and Brighton and NHS organizations throughout the South East region. The school's governance arrangements reflect this approach, and students are awarded joint BM BS degrees of both universities. The school is fully committed to the principles of Tomorrow's Doctors. We endorse the value of medical education in a multi-professional context and promote the highest possible standards in our teaching, clinical practice, and research (both fundamental and applied). We admit approximately 150 students annually to our BM BS degree course. BSMS has proved exceptionally popular, and in recent admissions rounds, we have continued to achieve one of the highest application rates of any UK medical school. Students spend their first two years primarily on the universities' campuses at Falmer; after that, the focus shifts to the associated teaching hospitals and community settings in Brighton and the surrounding area. We have purpose-built teaching facilities in all areas. Our curriculum emphasizes early clinical involvement, a broad range of experience, and a firm foundation in basic science. Led by the Department of Medical Education, we employ a wide range of teaching and learning approaches appropriate for the particular circumstances we are not committed to a single method of delivery. Feedback from the National Student Survey has demonstrated an exceptionally high level of student satisfaction, with BSMS students consistently returning overall satisfaction rates above 90%. Our postgraduate courses provide a range of opportunities from taught and research Masters courses to diplomas, certificates, and individual continuing professional development (CPD) modules, allowing us to meet the needs of health professionals at all levels in a continually changing healthcare sector. As we respond to this sector's needs, our courses continue to evolve, with new courses being added as a need is identified. We offer a range of clinical specialties, including anesthesia, cardiology, and dementia, and professional courses ranging from medical education to public health and global health. Our partnership with the Universities of Brighton and Sussex and overlapping research groupings offer a productive research environment for students wanting to pursue a research degree, and we offer PhDs, MDs, and MPhils along with our Masters in Research. The research undertaken at BSMS aims to make a genuine contribution to the evidence and science underpinning clinical practice and to benefit people and patients in their health and wellbeing. We have made significant investments in research infrastructure, including a world-class Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre (CISC) housing a 3T and 1.5T MRI and a PET- CT scanner and a Clinical Investigation and Research Unit (CIRU) dedicated to patient-orientated research and early clinical trials. Our key domains of research strength are recognized locally, nationally, and on the international stage. These are represented by our departments of Global Health and Infection (including HIV and sexual health), Neuroscience (including mental health and neurology) Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Medical Education, Primary Care, and Public Health. BSMS offers an Academic Training Programme aimed at doctors who are considering an academic career in medicine. The program is jointly overseen by BSMS and Health Education Kent, Surrey and Sussex and in close collaboration with the relevant partnership NHS Trusts (Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Trust and Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust).

View full university

      12. View full school
