The University of Brighton has been part of Brighton & Hove since 1859, starting as a school of art in the kitchens of the Royal Pavilion and growing to become the diverse and inclusive institution it is today. We have more than 21,000 students and 2,800 staff studying and working at our five campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne, and Hastings. Subjects taught here range from medicine to engineering, psychology to illustration, sport science to English literature.
Students are at the heart of all that we do and take an active role in their learning experience. They leave us ready to make a difference in the world.

We define sustainability as one of our core values, which we resolve to continually research and put into practice, demonstrated by getting a First Award out of 154 universities in People & Planet's University League 2017. The university has been awarded £2.98m to deliver the Green Growth Platform, a strategic five-year project designed to support growth among regional SMEs working in environmental and low-carbon sectors.

The Eastbourne campus has a select membership option for people over 55, which offers exclusive classes, pool and gym times, and other health and wellbeing initiatives. The gym also offers general class timetables for residents of all ages. The University of Brighton has steeped in history. Since its humble beginnings 150 years ago, in the kitchens of the Royal Pavilion, many institutions have come together to make it one of today's leading modern universities.
We can trace our origins back to the mid-19th century in Brighton and the mid-20th century in Eastbourne. Since being granted university status in 1992, the university has grown steadily. More than 7,000 students graduate each year in various subjects as diverse as automotive engine design, law with accountancy, midwifery, three-dimensional design, architecture, and pharmacy.
