Here is a brief timeline of the development of Albayan Schools: 1994 – Founded with kindergarten and elementary school classrooms. 1995 – Intermediate classes begin. The elementary school phase includes grades 1-6 and is divided into two cycles. The first cycle is for children ages 6 through 8, and the second cycle is for children ages 9 through 11. This allows us to meet specific goals with students based on their age and ability. Albayan elementary school students are exposed to a rich curriculum that includes field trips to broaden student knowledge as well as an end-of-the-year school play to expose them to the arts. Students in both cycles are taught science, math, and other basics such as Arabic, English, and French (parents choose between English and French as a major language in preschool, and the other is taught as a secondary, so all students receive instruction in three languages total). Students who take French as a major will be prepared to take The Delf Exam at the French embassy during their second cycle. This is an important time in the life of young students. Standardized tests that are required during these years may make a difference in which universities a student will be accepted to later. As a result, Albayan Schools takes these official exams very seriously, and we do our part to provide students with what they need for success. Albayan Schools’ intermediate education program includes grades 7 through 9 and students aged 13 through 15. In the second semester of grade 8, students are taught some grade 9 curriculum to begin preparation for the Brevet exam. The Brevet exam is completed at the end of grade 9, and the student receives a Brevet certificate at this time. Secondary education includes a three years education for students of ages 16-17-18. It’s composed of general education: humanities, economics, life sciences, and general sciences. When students complete three years of education, they take official Lebanese Baccalaureate exams Students who finish examinations successfully obtain the Lebanese Baccalaureate Certificate of Secondary Education. Moreover, students in the second stage are to undergo the SAT to get enrolled at the university. Our students are guaranteed to score high grades as they are fully adapted to the techniques they should be using during this test. Albayan schools work with various prestigious universities in Lebanon to conduct orientations in the school, as well as introducing all majors available in Lebanon this will help students meet with the university up-close and are then able to choose the major they would like to study. At a young age, our students begin to enjoy the pleasure of awakening faith in celebrating all the highlights of the liturgical year with their parents in the kindergarten years and disseminate this happiness in all their Christian families learning always to respect all other religions and to live together. Knowing that language is at the heart of learning in kindergarten, our students in two sections, English and French, are introduced to trilingualism and learn English, French, and Arabic literature courses by the rhythm of each and through the implementation of government programs: French for French section and American for the English section. Our cultural and educational programs encourage intercultural dialogue and enable cultural involvement. They strengthen the development of structures in civil society and foster worldwide mobility. With our network of Goethe-Instituts, Goethe Centres, cultural societies, reading rooms, and exam and language learning centers, we have been the first point of contact for many with Germany for over sixty years. The Media Lounge of Goethe-Institut Libanon performs the function of a location for learning, encounters, and events, and offers up-to-date information on culture, politics, and society in Germany. In addition, events are regularly organized in cooperation with Lebanese partners. The Media Lounge is open to the public and has a media collection that can be borrowed. The Goethe Institut in Lebanon reopened its doors. After the relocation and extensive renovation of the new building in the Beirut district of Gemmayzeh, the main services of the Goethe Institute are again reunited under one roof. The new media lounge invites visitors to explore the latest trends in German and European art, film, dance, music, and philosophy. The classrooms on the first floor are equipped with interactive smartboards and provide the ideal conditions for learning German. The new media lounge is intended as a room in which artists and visitors can try out new ideas, blur boundaries, and question established viewpoints. Beforehand, 'Architects for Change', a group of local designers, organized several workshops to analyze the requirements which the staff, students, and partners of the Institute would have about the new building. The result is a highly versatile facility with designer furniture and lots of plants, which invites visitors not just to browse the bookshelves but also to work with iPads. The room can also be quickly converted into an event space. The Goethe-Institut Lebanon celebrated the reopening of its premises at the new location in Gemmayzeh. Around 250 guests participated in the official reception at which the new Institute was presented to its partners. The aim is to promote cultural dialogue in the new media lounge and to create space for new projects. On the evening of the reopening, this was immediately put into effect by Ary Jan Sarhan from Syria and Miran Gurunian, who had composed three new pieces and performed them exclusively for the guests.
