- Welcome to Gwladys Street Primary and Nursery School. We are a large, friendly two-form entry Primary School situated in the Walton area of Liverpool. Vision Statement: "To provide the stepping stones for a successful future and fulfilling future with the Gwladys Street Family, celebrating generations of success". We want our school to be one: where everyone has access to an engaging, creative and challenging curriculum that promotes a love of learning. Where everyone feels safe, happy, and secure in our learning community. Where everyone works in partnership with the wider school community. Where Golden Opportunities are provided in an Inclusive Setting. Where everyone respects each other and works as a team to achieve our GOALS. Where children develop lively, enquiring minds, self-confidence, and independence. Which promotes a healthy lifestyle and positive, spiritual, and moral values. Gwladys Street C P and N School were visited by an assessor for the renewal of the Basic Skills Quality Mark. The assessor held discussions with the Headteacher, Deputy Head, Maths and English Subject leads a school governor, and a group of pupils. The assessor toured the school and was particularly impressed by Active Maths and the high standards the school is reaching. She was able to look at the school's assessment systems and a sample of children's books. We were very impressed by the group of pupils who spoke to the assessor as they were able to talk about how they use their maths skills in other areas of the curriculum and transferring their writing skills. Well done to all involved. The School currently holds Basic Skills Quality Mark, Liverpool Healthy Schools Award, Science Quality Schools Award - Gold, Liverpool PE Award - Silver, Reading Quality Mark - Gold, Sainsbury's School Games Award - Silver, Wildlife Trust - Wildlife Friendly Garden Award - Gold, Liverpool Maths Counts Quality Mark - Silver, RHS - School Gardening Campaign - Level 3, The Big Wildlife Garden - Green Award, Woodland Trust - Silver, Liverpool Echo - Highly Recommended. At Gwladys Street in years 1 to 6, we follow the Liverpool Local Authority plans which are linked to the New National Curriculum. The year groups have Block units to teach the skills of the National Curriculum through different genres for each year group. Each unit builds up children's speaking and listening skills, reading and comprehension skills, and composition skills through the teaching sequence of: Immersion Analysis Writing Children have the opportunity to embed their skills through Science and the International Primary Curriculum on an afternoon by reading and writing different text types. Learning about other cultures and religions is an important part of our development. We are fortunate to have a variety of different faiths and beliefs in our school. In RE this year, we are learning about Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Sikhism. We follow the Liverpool SACRE scheme. In RE, we do not just learn about religious practices and traditions, but also think about what part we play in our world and society. This gives us a great opportunity to be reflective. During the Summer Term, the Nursery is taking part in an exciting project called ‘Building a Bridge of Books.’ The project will run for 6 weeks with each session lasting around 3 hours. It allows parents and children to come into school and work together with me to build an early love of reading. The overall aim of the ‘Building a Bridge of Books’ project is to encourage and foster a love of books in young children. By taking part in this project, parents and carers are supporting their child’s development of early reading skills, including speaking and listening. It will also help to develop and expand children's skills within other areas of learning including Personal, Social, and Emotional Development and Expressive Arts and Design.
- The village of Gwernymynydd lies close to the Clwydian Mountain range which is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. On our present site, Godre’r Coed, there has been an Infant School since 1973. Along with the educational thinking of the time, this was an open-plan school catering for the Infant age range. In 1988 the school was extensively re-modeled to accommodate the Junior age pupils from the school on Ruthin Road. This was achieved by building two traditional classrooms together with a general-purpose hall come gymnasium. All the children of Gwernymynydd school receive education of the highest standards in conjunction with the requirements laid down in the National Curriculum. We enjoy extensive grounds situated in a very quiet and peaceful area. We continue to update and improve our indoor and outdoor facilities. Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make and your child is about to take one of the most important steps of their life, as they begin school for the first time. Here at Gwernymynydd CP School, we think of ourselves as one big family. Our main aim in the Early Years, therefore, is to make the transition from home to school a smooth one. In providing a happy, caring, and stimulating environment, we will help your child discover the joy and excitement of learning as we introduce them to new skills and concepts. We can offer individualized support for you and your child in their learning journey. We aim to foster and create a caring and stimulating learning environment which is conducive to the personal and social development of each child. Every child at Gwernymynydd CP School is special and we get to know every one of them very well during their time with us. We track and measure the progress of each learner carefully, expect excellent behavior, and gain high standards of achievement. We regard the partnership between home, school, and the community in the highest esteem we all want the very best for the youngest members of our community. We encourage sharing, caring, respect and responsibility. We will do our best to stimulate and challenge your child and ask for your support in all aspects of school life. We are here to support you and your child through their primary school journey. View full school

- Our founder, Sant Baba Amar Singh Ji believes that education is a human right for children, a route out of poverty. He has accordingly translated this vision into reality by establishing 19 schools worldwide, including the UK-based Academy, Guru Nanak Sikh Academy. The Academy Trust has an exceptional proven track record of establishing successful schools, Guru Nanak Sikh Academy and Guru Nanak Sikh Primary, (now merged into one all through Academy). We seek to provide a happy and outward–looking school, within which all the pupils work hard to realize their full potential, intellectually, morally, physically, personally, and socially and in which the Sikh religion is fostered. Our Aims is: To build a strong community based on the Sikh religion. To provide a quality education that is broad, balanced, and relevant to the needs of pupils within a modern society. To enable all pupils to achieve their potential through the highest standards of teaching and learning. To develop each pupil’s self-esteem, confidence, and independence with consideration for others and the concept of Sewa. To strengthen bonds between home, community, and school, providing a preparation for each pupil’s entry into the wider community. To be committed to encouraging every member of our community to invest in life-long learning and personal development. The values of the Multi Academies Trust are encapsulated by the S.H.A.R.E acronym. These values are at the heart of everything we do as a school and they describe the qualities our students and staff value most- Service to others, Humility, Achievement, Respect, and Equality. Our academy is a Sikh Faith school with Academy status. Sant Baba Amar Singh Ji is our Founder and Spiritual Leader. Religious education is provided following the Sikh faith as specified in the academy’s trust deed. We aim to give pupils knowledge and understanding of religious beliefs and practices so that they may continue in their own belief whilst at the same time respecting those of other people. All pupils are taught a weekly lesson on Sikh studies which includes religious education. Assemblies play an important part in developing the ethos and community spirit within the school. They are broadly Sikh (recitation of Japji Sahib, Shabads, Ardas, and Hukamnama), but include stories and messages from a wide range of cultures, religions, and faiths. We have a clear vision for our school which unites staff, governors, families, and children. We share a determination that all children will achieve the very best that they can and go on to become life-long learners. We believe in the importance of supporting and challenging children to achieve academically, whilst also caring about their development as kind, polite and respectful members of our community. Our overall aim is that our pupils leave us as confident, enthusiastic learners prepared for their next stage in education. View full school

- We have developed, with our parents, a warm, happy, and friendly environment, where each child works toward maximizing their full potential. We have created an atmosphere where all our children are valued and value each other. We are a school where every child, including the very able and the least able, is encouraged to achieve high standards. We set, expect and achieve a high level of academic performance. We also develop our children’s achievements in other activities, such as music, sports, and drama productions, catering for both the individual and the team. These help to enrich the lives of our children. We are a school working within and for our local community. Our community facilities include a before and after school club, and a children's center. We work closely with other local primary and secondary schools. Fundamental to the learning of any child is the relationship between home and school. I know that our parent-teacher partnership at Gunter will lead to genuine success and achievement for our children. Our school offers an exciting opportunity to begin an educational journey that will help develop the full potential of every one of our children. Our Aims: To provide a broad range of educational experiences and activities to help prepare each child for successful adult life. To provide a secure, well-disciplined, caring, and friendly environment. To foster the children's self-respect and consideration for others and their environment. To involve parents, local schools, and the wider community in a mutually beneficial relationship. To create and maintain a positive community atmosphere, where everyone feels happy, safe, and secure, and pupils are supported to become positive, responsible, and increasingly independent members of society, all pupils, parents, and staff at Gunter are expected to demonstrate commitment to the following principles that underpin our core values: Finding out and exploring: We will not be afraid to take risks in our quest to acquire deeper knowledge and understanding and will be active, reflective participants in all stages of the learning process. Creativity and thinking critically: We will be proud to be unique individuals with analytical, problem-solving minds. Understanding others: We will show compassion and empathy, alongside a willingness to work collaboratively with others. Motivation and determination: We will be resilient learners who show perseverance and positivity when faced with a challenge. Our self-belief will only be exceeded by our aspirations. Spirituality: We will revel in the awe and wonder of the world around us, filled with inspiration that propels us to achieve our goals. Also, we will seek to understand and demonstrate the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. At Gunter Primary School we believe that our School Curriculum should be broad and balanced and underpinned by aims, values, and purpose. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, but many other opportunities make up the wider curriculum. These are designed to inspire and challenge all children, prepare them for the future and aid them in their strive for excellence. We believe passionately in developing the whole person and giving our children ownership of their learning. Our curriculum is rich with first-hand purposeful experiences and is designed to be flexible and responsive to individual needs and interests. We support our children in becoming ‘aspirational’ – aiming high – to make the most of their learning opportunities and we believe in an active partnership between school, pupil, and home. Gunter Primary School’s Creative Curriculum has been carefully designed to ensure that it meets the needs of the children in our school as well as the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum. We have used the National curriculum as an outline of core knowledge around which we have developed exciting and interesting themes. The curriculum has been arranged into three main themes for each year band with one theme being taught each term. Each theme is planned to last for approximately 10 weeks to ensure that there is room for flexibility to allow children to direct their learning and to explore opportunities that arise as a result of their study. Two of the themes in each year band have been mapped around the programs of study for Science with the remaining theme being based upon the Humanities (history and geography). This has been carefully planned to ensure coverage across the Key Stages and that there is enough scope for the depth of knowledge to be developed. Art, DT, and music objectives are also all covered through these themes. Wherever possible, meaningful cross-curriculum links have been made with English and Mathematics. View full school

- The school is situated at the eastern end of Port Talbot and was built in 1973. It is surrounded by a hard-playing area and the adjacent playing fields are shared with Dyffryn Comprehensive School. After a fire in November 2001, major refurbishment took place involving the rebuilding and redesign of the infant part of the school. The Governing Body and staff at Groes invited stakeholders to contribute to the vision of our school. We are committed to this vision and it underpins everything we develop within the school and forms the focus for our improvements. We will cherish and inspire every child to sparkle and shine in their own right, and provide them with skills for life to help them fulfill their dreams and aspirations. Our family ethos will provide a love of learning, plenty of laughter, and an abundance of love. To achieve our vision, we aim to:- Create purposeful experiences that will challenge and inspire individuals to achieve personal success and recognize their values and self-worth. Provide a vibrant, and high-quality resource ensuring that children are safe, secure, and have the desire to learn. Offer the school and its partners a communication and support network where all come together to share opportunities and a sense of pride in their locality. Ensure children have a love of learning where they remain central to a stimulating, innovative, and varied curriculum. Incorporate a trusting, nurturing environment that is open and honest where children will be encouraged to be respectful and responsible, and motivated to learn. - Our school is a vibrant one-form entry school with a very strong sense of community. We have 285 amazing 3 to 11-year-olds at Grinling Gibbons. We are all very proud to learn – we love coming to work and seeing our children. The Nursery has 25 morning and 25-afternoon places. It is easily accessible from an entrance which is to the right of the main school entrance. Our children are enthusiastic and inquisitive learners. We are a “good” school as recognized by Ofsted in May 2017. Everyone at Grinling Gibbons is passionate about ensuring we continue to thrive and improve. We are an innovative school, always looking at how we can develop and make learning more exciting and relevant for the children. We are all learners committed to researching how children learn ensuring we always adapt our practice to make sure the children get the best learning experiences possible. Some of the important roles the advocates have, include: Planning and leading assemblies when we are raising money for charities Helping to run events like ‘The Winter Ball’ and ‘The Summer Fair’ Deciding how money should be spent e.g. books, playground equipment To be a school advocate, you must be a good role model to others. You must be responsible and be a good listener, as well as confident enough to speak out in front of others. School advocates wear special badges so everyone, including visitors, knows that we are excellent ambassadors for our school. Pupils receive a good and improving education. The new senior leaders’ swift and decisive actions have led to the school being transformed. They have stopped the decline in standards. The executive headteacher and head of school work very well together to provide excellent leadership. Together they work well with other staff to ensure that they have the highest aspirations for pupils. Staff responds well to the headteacher’s openness, and morale is high. Leaders at all levels, including the governors, have the highest expectations for pupils regardless of their backgrounds. Pupils know this and they are, in turn, highly ambitious. The school’s attention to safeguarding pupils is effective. Staff are alert to pupils’ needs and do not allow potential barriers to affect pupils’ learning. The quality of teaching is good. The art of teaching, which places pupils at the center of planning, is now at the heart of teachers’ work. Leaders and teachers analyze assessment information well to identify the progress of different groups. They select interventions carefully that will improve outcomes. The school’s assessment system is under review. Governors hold leaders to account rigorously for their work. Under the new culture, accountability is strong at every level of management. Pupils’ behavior is good. Pupils are friendly, polite, and respectful. They feel safe in their school and have very trusting relationships with staff. Pupils reach average standards and make good progress in literacy, mathematics, and other subjects. In-school assessment information shows that disadvantaged pupils, including the ablest, make similarly good progress as others nationally. Most pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities make similar progress as others. Leaders recognize that some pupils’ needs are not identified early enough. The ablest pupils are now making good progress, but teachers do not consistently challenge them sufficiently to apply their knowledge. Standards in key stage 1, early years, and the phonics screening check are consistently above average. View full school
