  1. Our School Values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. Our School Values have been created by our parents, carers, grandparents, governors, staff, and pupils. Our School Values help our pupils to be the best citizens they can be. Our School Values help our pupils to develop positive relationships, understand their feelings, develop empathy and understand how important their contributions are to school and community life. Our School Values are taught alongside the SEAL and ELSA program to fully support all our pupils' emotional, social and behavioral development. Graig-Y-Rhacca Primary and Nursery Community School is a wonderful place. We are honored to be the Headteacher of such a very special school. Our children are happy, polite, caring, hardworking, and keen learners. Staff is dedicated, motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to our pupils and our community. We are committed to developing positive relationships with our parents and our community to ensure the best for our pupils. In Graig-Y-Rhacca Primary and Nursery Community School we believe in our core values, these help our pupils to be the best they can be in school and our community. We are committed to ensuring that our pupils are given the best opportunities to excel. We provide our pupils with an array of enriching learning experiences and we ensure that all pupils learn in a warm, caring, and nurturing environment. We believe that for our pupils to achieve their best, they must thrive personally as well as academically. Children learn through first-hand experiential activities with the serious business of ‘play’ providing the vehicle. Through their play, children practice and consolidate their learning, play with ideas, experiment, take risks, solve problems, and make decisions individually, in small and in large groups. First-hand experiences allow children to develop an understanding of themselves and the world in which they live. The development of children’s self-image and feelings of self-worth and self-esteem are at the core of this phase. The Foundation Phase curriculum is planned as a progressive framework that spans four years (3 to 7 years) to meet the diverse needs of all children, including those who are at an earlier stage of development and those who are more able. Throughout their formative years, children’s learning develops more rapidly than at any other time. However, progress is not even and children go through periods of rapid development and times when they seem to regress. A curriculum for young children should be appropriate to their stage of learning rather than focusing solely on age-related outcomes to be achieved. Children should move on to the next stages of their learning when they are developmentally ready and at their own pace.
  2. Grafton is an exceptional school, where the individual child is at the heart of all it does and always strives to inspire children to achieve the highest level. We see our school community as a 'Family' where pupils are cared for, nurtured, and supported and where pupils make outstanding progress in all areas of learning. Children and Parents at Grafton School foster an atmosphere of mutual respect, tolerance, and high regard for all members of society and themselves. We are proud of our school and all those who work and learn in it. From Years 1 – 6, your child will follow the National Curriculum. School Mission Statement and Aims: Create a calm, happy and purposeful environment for all children and staff, through positive management that reflects care, respect, and support for each other, encouraging tolerance, discussion, and co-operation at all times. Provide a stimulating working environment and curriculum, which encourages learning in which children show interest, enthusiasm, and independence. Foster non-sexist, non-racist, non-homophobic, and a non-elitist philosophy amongst all members of the school community, ensuring equal opportunities for all. Provide opportunities for children to achieve their full potential - to develop their skills, talents, and interests, within a creative environment. Facilitate children's achievement and potential by setting high standards and providing a carefully planned program of work delivered with high-quality teaching. Work in partnership with our parents and the school community To ensure children can work and play safely, we expect them to: Be polite and thoughtful and play fairly and cooperatively with each other at all times Listen and consider each other’s feelings Be kind and never hit back but tell an adult We value each other’s work and celebrate each other’s achievement, whatever that might be. We value our learning and are determined to do well. We love reading, writing, investigating, and sharing our learning. At school, we respect, tolerate, and help each other. We never use abusive language of any kind that hurts others and our behavior is always the BEST. We know how important it is to be in school every day and on time so we always do our best to achieve 100% attendance and punctuality. The Nursery has several full-time children as well as those who attend on a part-time basis. The Early Years follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum which consists of seven areas of learning: Personal, Social, and Emotional Development Communication Mathematics Literacy Understanding of the World Physical Development Expressive Arts and Design Special Educational Needs and the Inclusive School. As an inclusive school, we support all pupils to access the curriculum through effective programs of support. Whatever the pupil’s Special Educational Need we will ensure that they reach their full potential. Working in partnership with parents and carers is central to our work and the children’s success. In Grafton Primary School, we have a long history of supporting our most able pupils through both identifications of their particular skills and offering a great deal of provision. Most provision for our most able pupils occurs within the classroom through extension and enrichment activities. Grafton also has a vast amount of out-of-class enrichment activities. One of the most powerful and well-researched thinking skills programs has been running for many years at Grafton. The Cognitive Acceleration program (Let's Think!) takes place throughout the school from reception up to year 6. During these unique lessons, our most able pupils are challenged in English, mathematics, and logic. They are stretched and challenged to the point where their thinking and creativity are stimulated leading to exceptionally high-quality work and dialogue. In mathematics Let's Think lessons also stretch our most able pupils through a series of well-structured lessons that progress in difficulty. We also offer Logic training within this approach for children in Key Stage 1. These lessons have taken place for 15 years at Grafton. We also have a science specialist who has worked across most year groups. The use of a specialist has enabled our most able pupils to be more deeply involved in science lessons. There is also an after-school club available for our most budding scientists. With the use of advanced questioning techniques and subject knowledge, we know that our pupils are well stimulated in science. Philosophy for Children (P4C) is another well-researched approach to thinking and learning that has taken place at Grafton for over 10 years. With the help of in-house philosophy specialists and trained teachers, it aims to build children's ability to reason, analyze, create and think clearly. Philosophy for Children has the advantage of being able children's thinking across all subjects. By working collaboratively, all pupils including the ablest are allowed to flourish intellectually within the class environment. View full school

Nicci also created our fabulous mosaics that were made by pupils, staff, and Governors and are featured on the front cover. Goytre Fawr Primary is an English Medium Community School, which has been serving the local area since 1852. It is situated in extensive grounds that provide an attractive and stimulating environment in which to learn. The Welsh curriculum is undergoing significant change following a review carried out in 2015. The new curriculum is being developed nationally and is due to be implemented from 2020. As a school, we are adapting the current curriculum to bring it more in line with how the new curriculum will be structured. Across the school, there is a focus on experiential learning that is based on real purposes. Pupils are far more involved in their learning with the use of the pupil's voice as a focus in all classes. Wherever possible areas of learning are taught in a cross-curricular way with the key skills of literacy, numeracy, and digital competence being taught, where appropriate, in all lessons. As a school, we are moving towards these areas when we are planning children’s learning. Our world is changing rapidly so we must provide a skills-based curriculum that provides our pupils with the confidence to succeed in any career path they choose. View full school

  6. In Govan High School we strive to ensure that all young people achieve their full potential. Through our delivery of Curriculum for Excellence, we ensure that pupils experience a broad general education that delivers breadth, depth, and challenge in learning until the end of their third year. Pupils are then able to build on this as they move into the senior phase with a curriculum that offers progression, the opportunity for academic attainment to the highest level possible as well as opportunities for pupils to follow vocational programs. No matter the pathway a young person chooses we can support each of our learners on their journey towards a positive and sustained destination. 8. We think Gospel Oak is a great school. We are very proud of the breadth of educational and extra-curricular opportunities we offer all our children. Life at our school is fun, happy, hardworking, and successful. We want our school to be a safe, welcoming place where children enjoy learning, work hard and achieve their best. We aim to provide a high standard of teaching and learning in lessons that are inspiring, broad and balanced. We have high expectations of our children's behavior and aim to help them develop into confident and self-sufficient individuals. We recognize and celebrate our rich and diverse school population. We aim to ensure that children, parents, carers, and staff enjoy true equality of opportunity and feel valued as part of the school community. We aim to work with parents and carers as partners in their children's learning. Our mission: Uphold our commitment to being an inclusive, community school. Develop and enhance our broad and relevant curriculum. Maintain and enhance the overall quality of teaching and learning, so that it is outstanding. Provide every child with the opportunity to develop their interests and meet new challenges Sustain and enhance high-quality provision throughout EYFS to maximize learning opportunities and progress. Maintain high standards and rates of progress in core subjects that are above national averages in KS1 and KS2. Attain rates of overall attendance that are above national averages. Develop contexts for learning that are reflected in high quality, interactive learning environment throughout the school. Encourage all parents and carers to be partners in their children’s learning. Develop our extended provision to the whole community and other partners in the local area. We provide a high-quality, rich, and exciting curriculum for all children, yet we know, from regularly monitoring progress, that some children will require extra provision that is additional to or different from the other children in their class. Where this is the case, we will look at whether the child would benefit from being placed on the Special Education Needs Register. We would always do this in conjunction with parents. This allows the needs of the child to be considered in an in-depth way through an Individual Education Plan. This plan allows for additional or different provisions to be planned. These plans are reviewed and updated regularly. View full school

  12. We work hard to develop opportunities for our children and in the last few years, it has gone from strength to strength. We provide an exciting and inspirational curriculum working with experts including an Artist in residence and a Musician in residence to widen our curriculum offer. In addition to the teaching of Spanish as an additional language, we also have a professional Sports coach. Gorringe Park Primary finally became a three-form entry school in September 2017 with the third-year six-class opening. Gorringe Park Primary School serves children from three to eleven years old (Nursery - Year 6). The national curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement. The national curriculum is just one element in the education of every child. There are time and space in the school day and each week, term, and year to range beyond the national curriculum specifications. The national curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding, and skills as part of the wider school curriculum. Pupils of compulsory school age in community and foundation schools, including community special schools and foundation special schools, and in voluntary aided and voluntary controlled schools, must follow the national curriculum. It is organized based on four key stages3 and twelve subjects, classified in legal terms as ‘core’ and ‘other foundation subjects. The reading scheme we use in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 is called ‘Floppy’s Phonics’ (fiction and non-fiction). The scheme of books is banded into color levels, which relate to the level of difficulty of the text. The books are also linked to the phonic sounds and ‘tricky words’ we teach in school. They provide a good opportunity for the children to practice and apply their phonic knowledge. For specific information about the sounds and words included in each book please see the inside cover of each text. Reading at home is an essential way for children to develop their ability, confidence, and passion for reading. At Gorringe Park Primary our aim is for every child to not only develop the essential reading skills needed to access the curriculum, but to have the enthusiasm and confidence to become lifelong readers. Gorringe Park Primary School receives a Pupil Premium Grant for each child who is entitled to receive Free Schools Meals or who has been entitled over the last six years, and for any Looked After Children. Sports Funding adds to the investment Gorringe Park makes in sports provision. We believe in using our funding to provide a professional sports coach from Progressive Sports to work with our children every week and new from September 2017 we have also employed ARTIS to do music, dance, and movement with our children. The impact of the additional funding can be seen in the increased participation in sporting events entered by the school as well as several of our older children now playing for major football clubs. The school works closely with a team of Governors to support, monitor, and improve the school. The profiles below give you some further information on each of our Governors. Schools have a key role in safeguarding children and this is done by teaching children how to be safe. Teaching children British values such as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect help children to protect themselves against radical narratives as they grow up. DITTO is a free online safety (e-safety) magazine for schools, organizations, and parents to keep you up to date with risks, issues, advice, and guidance related to keeping children safe online, to enjoy and learn about technology. A new edition is released approx. every 6 weeks. This year we have shown how the sustainability of our sports continues with the change to a new coordinator and we welcome Mr. Medcalf to the role. The Government in England has provided additional funding of over £150 million per annum since 2013/14 to improve PE and school sport in primary schools. From September 2017, the funding will be doubled to enable primary schools to make further improvements to the quality and breadth of the PE and sport they offer. The money goes directly to Head Teachers to enable them to improve the quality of PE and sport for all children. Each school receives £16,000 plus £10 per pupil in years 1 to 6. At Gorringe Park, we will receive £20,570 in 2017/18. This money will go towards ensuring that each child is exposed to high-quality PE and also to ensure that child knows how to live an active and healthy lifestyle Conditions of grant: The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, in 2017 to 2018 academic year, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
  14. We are all learners at Goresbrook from our youngest student to our most senior members of staff, and we firmly believe that by learning together, we grow and succeed together. This commitment to learning by everybody in the school is key to ensuring that we all achieve our potential. I am extremely passionate and committed to seeing Goresbrook School and its students fulfill their full potential. The brilliant staff members at the school are central to us achieving this goal. We are an expanding all-through school that aims to give all our students the best education so they can succeed in later life. Being an all-through school, our students have the fantastic opportunity to study with us from Nursery to Sixth Form, without having the transition from Primary to Secondary school. Our school motto is ‘growth, belief, team’ because we truly believe that these three qualities will enable us all to achieve our aims. Parents and carers must work with us to ensure children stay safe in their use of technology. When we talk about e-safety, we are not just talking about the internet. We are talking about the use of computers, games consoles (such as X-Box), mobile phones, televisions, tablets (such as the iPad), and many other things. You will have been asked to fill out our 'acceptable use policy for your child. This details some of how we encourage children to behave and outlines our rules for safe use of technology. We also ask your permission for the use of photos and video on the website and in other places. All students at Goresbrook School receive E-safety training to help keep them safe in an ever-evolving technological world. Please look at the useful links and documents below regarding how to keep your child safe whilst using technology and the internet. The Pupil Premium is an additional source of funding provided to schools to support the raising of achievement for deprived children, a group recognized nationally as vulnerable to underperformance at school. The funding is calculated by measuring the number of students receiving Free School Meals (FSM) in the last 6 years (‘Ever 6’). We believe the money must be used so that all children benefit regardless of sporting ability. We aim to encourage and celebrate a ‘love of sport’ and understanding of the importance of being active and healthy. Also, all children in Reception and Year 1 have the chance to take part in a wide range of professionally run sports clubs every evening which include ballet, football, basketball, gymnastics, music, dance, and tennis. Pupil premium children get one paid club per term free. We believe that these clubs enrich the school experience for those who take part. The impact of the spending is the uptake numbers for sports clubs (these clubs are at full capacity with approximately 20 children per session) and dedicated, specialist PE teachers for the primary phase. Feedback about the clubs offer and P.E curriculum from parents and children is very positive. Coaches have noted that the skill and ability of the children in P.E and after-school clubs have improved throughout the sessions. Children also have a greater awareness of the importance of being fit, active, and healthy. At Goresbrook School, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality teaching and learning to all pupils, all of the time. Our pupils and staff thrive in a ‘no excuses’ culture, meaning our expectations of pupils’ behavior and effort are never compromised. We acknowledge that a small number of pupils will require provision that is different or additional to the majority of pupils to achieve their potential. These pupils are deemed to have special educational needs (SEN) and are added to the SEN register. The SEN register is fluid and pupils are added or removed based on their individual needs and rate of progress at a given point in time. Goresbrook School believes that the pupils with the highest level of need are most likely to succeed by accessing the best quality teaching and interventions available. As well as experienced teachers teaching smaller groups of pupils, we use research-based interventions such as Fresh Start, Stairway to Spelling, and nurture groups, delivered by staff with the appropriate training to meet pupils’ needs most effectively. As well as ensuring pupils’ academic success, we offer a comprehensive range of support, such as lunch club, Circle of Friends, and Place2Talk, to ensure pupils’ social and emotional needs are met. Pupil's voice helps shape our provision and parents are kept up-to-date with details of their child’s progress, successes, and any concerns that arise. We aim to work in partnership with pupils and their parents to ensure that any special educational need is quickly identified and that barriers to learning and participation are removed. The SENDCO works closely with all teachers and teaching fellows to ensure the needs of all pupils are properly understood and met. Progress of pupils with SEND is closely monitored to ensure quality and effectiveness, and changes or adaptations to provision are made as necessary. External specialists, such as Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, and the School Nurse, are consulted regularly for advice as to how best to meet the needs of individuals and groups of pupils. Regular training for all school leaders, teachers, and support staff helps to ensure everyone has the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of all pupils on the SEN register. At Goresbrook School, we believe in the power of a growth mindset. All staff works tirelessly to ensure that every pupil achieves their potential, regardless of background, prior attainment, or special educational need. View full school

  16. Gordonstoun is one of the leading full boarding schools in the UK. Our buildings are set in a safe and beautiful 200-acre woodland campus, walking distance from the expansive beaches of the Moray Firth, and within easy reach of the stunning Scottish Highlands. This location means we can deliver a uniquely broad curriculum of indoor and outdoor learning which brings out the best in our pupils, both academically and personally. Our curriculum is based on the educational philosophy of the school’s founder, Dr. Kurt Hahn, who believed students should develop their life skills at the same time as they reached their full academic potential. His ambition is summarised in the school’s motto: ‘Plus est en Vous – ‘There is more in you’. Our culturally diverse community of students from over forty nationalities includes over 500 girls and boys aged 4½ -18. The physical heart of the school is Gordonstoun House which is our administrative hub and a boarding house for senior boys. There are seven other boarding houses for students aged between 13 and 18 - three for girls and four for boys - and Aberlour House which is home to the Junior School. We offer a smooth transition from Junior to Senior School when pupils reach 13. The famous Round Square, home to a boys’ house, the Gordonstoun library and archives, also gives its name to the global organization of schools which was founded by Dr. Kurt Hahn from this building. The association shares our belief in preparing pupils for more than just exams and university by giving them the skills they need for life itself. As we have expanded over the last 80 years these historic buildings are now complemented by a range of outstanding facilities. Recent additions include a state-of-the-art Sports Centre and a Performing Arts department which includes a studio theatre, drama rehearsal spaces, and dance studios. At Gordonstoun, we believe that a broader curriculum broadens not only minds but opportunities too. It is a belief that’s served both us and our students well for over 80 years and that has made Gordonstoun the world leader in character education. Our curriculum, which is unrivaled in breadth, helps every child to achieve their full potential. Our motto is ‘Plus est en Vous, which - for those of you who don’t speak French yet – means ‘There is more in you'. The school’s founder, visionary German educationalist Dr. Kurt Hahn, believed that young people flourish when their horizons are broadened beyond just their academic potential. He set out to develop the qualities of compassion, honesty, initiative, a thirst for adventure, and a sense of service to others in them. His intention was not just to prepare his students for exams, but also life. This approach to character education is still achieved at Gordonstoun by combining inspiring classroom learning with an exciting and richly varied range of out-of-classroom learning experiences. All students take part in our world-beating outdoor education and sail training program, take part in the team and individual sports, explore the performing arts, and participate in one of the School’s nine services to the community. These widely differing challenges instill a can-do attitude in our pupils and give them the ability to adapt to new situations quickly and confidently skills which are essential in later life. Our young people are also encouraged to take on roles of responsibility from their earliest years in School and they rise to the challenge, developing an understanding and respect for the wider world. Consequently, our students are diverse in culture, faith, aptitude, and background and we take pride in our global community and the opportunity it brings to develop a deep and accepting understanding of people from all walks of life and all nations. Gordonstoun’s physical location in the North of Scotland is another thing that sets the school apart. We are located in a beautiful and safe, 200-acre woodland campus in the heart of the Moray countryside, just moments from the sea and the hills. Our peaceful location is quiet, yet accessible and we have great international transport links - we are only 31 miles from Inverness and 65 miles from Aberdeen airport. Gordonstoun is one of the UK’s last remaining full boarding schools, co-educational for 4 ½ -18 years olds and dedicated to delivering an ethos that stretches, challenges, nurtures and develops every child in our care, so that they grow into all that they can be. 20. A non-selective state boarding school, Gordon’s School was established in 1885 at the behest of Queen Victoria and has since developed into one of the leading boarding schools in the UK. Situated in 50-acres of beautiful grounds with generous facilities, we seek to provide a world-class education that ensures all students learn how to be the best they can be. Officially listed as one of Britain’s outstanding schools by Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector, we recognize that a good education is not just about outstanding examination results but a thorough preparation for life it is about providing opportunities and experiences for all young people to find their talents and interests, develop good character, become accomplished and achieve across a range of disciplines and ultimately develop the confidence to go and make their mark in the world. However, the real judgment of Gordon is the students. All who visit are struck by the friendliness, discipline, and vibrancy throughout the school and by the family atmosphere, exemplified by the special rapport between staff and students. This is borne from a community that strives: to live with integrity, to be courteous, enthusiastic, and diligent, even in adversity. As parents, we wish our children to grow up to lead fulfilled lives, enjoy healthy lifestyles and make a positive contribution to the wider world. At Gordon’s, we want nothing less. Such students lead happier lives. We believe: In modern ideas alongside traditional values In a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes an academic and active life where students are immersed in a diverse range of activities and develop the knowledge, skills, attributes, and behaviors necessary for success In Gordon’s principally as a center for teaching and learning based on high standards and expectations, where students of all abilities learn, students enjoy learning and teachers enjoy teaching In a House system and a disciplined environment without shortcuts as the best way to guarantee outstanding pastoral and academic care That high performance without good character is not true success at all. 24. After the Great War, Mill Hill experienced considerable development of farmland. The need soon arose for a school in the area of Lawrence Farm which was land once owned by the Goodwyn family. Langley Park School was established in the early 1920s. At some later stage, it became Mill Hill High School for Boys and Girls. In 1938 Mrs. Gaynor Parry acquired the school and changed its name to Goodwyn, a sensible choice as it was situated in Goodwyn Avenue. Over the years the school buildings have undergone large developments, and whilst retaining a homely feel, it has the essentials that make it a modern, forward-moving center for education. Many former pupils return with their children and we now have third-generation pupils at the school. Over the years the school has established an environment where all are encouraged to find their strengths, become confident independent people with a firm sense of tradition, and team spirit. Parents have often said to us that they did not fully appreciate what Goodwyn offered until their child had moved on to their next school. We know the spirit of Goodwyn moves with the children, and the broad base allows them to expand upon it through to adulthood. Thank you for showing an interest in Goodwyn. We have endeavored to portray ourselves by painting with words and pictures, but realize this can only suggest to you the unique characteristics that make Goodwyn the school it is. There is a certain something about the school that exudes warmth, happiness, and wellbeing, which in turn generates confidence. Second-generation families return to the school and, on setting foot back inside, instantly remember happy memories of yesteryear. The fact that Goodwyn has endeared itself to so many staff, pupils, and parents indicates that we maintained its ethos. Many have contributed towards the school and now others continue to uphold the Goodwyn name. Yes, one must make changes, but we endeavor to maintain the uniqueness that is Goodwyn. Children at Goodwyn have the opportunity to work in a nurturing, caring environment where they feel secure and excited about learning due to our dynamic and personalized approach to teaching. Our curriculum is broad, enabling us to develop talents within it and the opportunity to broaden it further with our extracurricular program. We build confidence and self-belief as we endeavor to know our children and celebrate their individuality. We provide an education where all can flourish at their level in their way and are all valued within our Goodwyn Community. We prepare them for life beyond primary school through our integral PHSE program which includes learning approaches such as resilience and persistence. We foster a desire to develop well-rounded, honest, and balanced children who respect others, believe in freedom of speech, the need for laws, and democracy- all that encompasses British Values. Every day is a fulfilling and exciting, purposeful experience at Goodwyn where we inspire pupils to learn memorably. We provide a broad curriculum and an exceptional mix of extra-curricular activities. We develop a strong and successful community where all work to maximize their progress and earn house points for their Swifts and Swallows houses. We provide a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum that is accessible to all our children and based on the National Curriculum. We aim to help our children to develop into positive, responsible, and confident people who achieve their full potential. Goodwyn School is a happy, sociable, and unpretentious school, where children’s efforts and achievements are valued, recognized, and rewarded. Our girls and boys are enthusiastic individuals, with lots of character and energy, who enjoy their time at school. We aim to provide the children with a life-long love of learning through our diverse and varied approach to teaching and learning. View full school
