  1. The Private Elementary School Thiergarten Palace was founded in 2010 and commenced for the first time in the school year 2010–2011. The Private Grundschule Schloss Thiergarten der Dr. Wiesent Schulen gGmbH (Private Elementary School Schloss Thiergarten of the Dr. Wiesent Schools gGmbH) , a private elementary school and non-profit limited company, is managed by Dr. Wiesent Schulen gGmbH, which already runs several schools (www.senivita-schulen.de), as well as the friends association International School Bayreuth e. V., an organization for the support of the private elementary school Private Grundschule Schloss Tiergarten. Dr. Horst Wiesent is the Managing Director, while the Managing Partner is Dr. Wiesent Schulen gGmbH. The idea of establishing a bilingual school in Bayreuth is not new, however, the initiators were constantly faced with complex organizational and pedagogical challenges which prevented the project from setting course. To establish a private school in Germany, certain criteria must be met, which include providing a systematic concept that takes into account all legal parameters and local conditions. The constructive and sustainable interplay of various persons and institutions, as well as persuasive public relations, are the basic requirements for success. The decisive factor in achieving our goal, however, proved to be the integrated work of a competent responsible body that is familiar with the many complexities of such a company and is willing to act for a good cause, despite all barriers and setbacks. The cooperation with SeniVita OHG Bayreuth and the booster club International School Bayreuth e. V. finally led to achieving our goal. Thanks to a combination of persons willing to establish a school as well as financial starting aid and skills in the creation of such companies, the Private Grundschule Schloss Thiergarten ultimately experienced a breakthrough. After the main course was set, there was nothing that stood in the way from running the school in the school year 2010-11. Our bilingual elementary school follows the pedagogical principles established by Maria Montessori in terms of starting bilingual education from first grade on. This is followed by the step-by-step development of the English language within the school context, thus enabling an easy transfer to any secondary school (German or English) from the fourth grade onwards. Regular lessons are from 8 am - 2 pm Our timetable contains four English lessons per week. Our English native speakers communicate with our students in the English language during the entire school programs (regular school time and during afternoon lessons) enabling our students to learn the English language without even realizing the learning progress.
  2. Everything we do at Old Palace is intended to ensure that the children are happy at school, love learning, and become the best that they can be. We appreciate that every child has unique talents, abilities, and preferences in learning and we constantly strive to help each child develop the learning skills they will need to prosper in later life. In doing so, we appreciate the need for effective partnerships with parents to ensure that learning continues beyond the school gate and have in place a range of initiatives to support parents in helping their child. In addition to helping our pupils achieve academically, we also wish to create healthy and active citizens, who care for and respect each other, who make wise behavior choices, and who challenge discrimination in all its forms. The school is committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum, enriched through regular educational visits and successful links with our community and business partners. The importance of emotional and physical well-being is taught through our fitness, sports, and PHSE programs and we have invested heavily in the use of new technology to make certain that our pupils have access to this, especially as it may not always be available to them at home. This together with the skills and dedication of our staff allows Old Palace to continue to provide its pupils with the best possible start to their education. We wish to ensure that our pupils: Achieve the best they possibly can, recognizing their successes and areas for further improvement. Become literate, numerate, and ICT competent. Develop an understanding of how they learn and apply this passionately to enquire and think creatively about the world. Develop self-awareness and self-confidence, together with the social skills needed to relate to and work well with others. Take responsibility for their actions, treating others with fairness, tolerance, and respect. Learn collaboratively with each other, the school, parents, and the local community, applying their learning to enhance their own lives and those of others. Become healthy, active citizens, who participate in their community to work for a better tomorrow. Phonics is taught using the Letters and Sounds program. We do not follow a reading scheme as we wish to expose our pupils to a rich breadth of literature. We, therefore, have carefully selected titles from a range of schemes such as Rigby Star, Tree Tops, and Big Cat. These are supplemented with longer novels in Key Stage 2. The school’s chosen modern foreign language is French and we also provide a Bangla Club. The school follows the Tower Hamlets’ Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. We extend our curriculum through the range of after-school clubs which we offer at Old Palace. Everything we do at Old Palace is intended to ensure that the children are happy at school, love learning, and become the best that they can be. We appreciate that every child has unique talents, abilities, and preferences in learning and we constantly strive to help each child develop the learning skills they will need to prosper in later life. At Old Palace we want our pupils to develop socially, emotionally, morally, creatively, physically, spiritually, academically- to equip them with skills and attitudes they will need to succeed in life and to make a positive contribution to society.
  3. First and foremost Old Palace is a place of learning. For each girl who comes here, Old Palace will also be a key contributor in her development as a compassionate and capable individual, prepared to address the challenges presented to her as she makes her contribution to society. Every student enjoys a first-class academic education at Old Palace. We also promote a broader values-based education embracing four dimensions: service, skills and knowledge, courage, and emotional intelligence. With this approach, students learn about who they are and what they stand for. Old Palace is a unique school in an exceptional and inspiring setting steeped in history as recorded from 896. We identify, encourage, and nurture the special qualities of every individual entrusted to us. Our surroundings also stimulate girls to develop and flourish in ways beyond the reach of conventional education. For example, not every girls’ school in the country can boast the opportunity to sing cathedral repertoire every week in Croydon Minster, our next-door neighbor at Old Palace. Old Palace is blessed with magnificent buildings, enthusiastic, highly motivated staff, and a sound ethos of social awareness. For all who embrace the many opportunities presented, Old Palace will reward them with a happy, memorable, and empowering education. We aim to equip learners with the confidence, skills, and knowledge needed to lead independent, successful, and happy lives in an ever-changing world. We are committed to: Providing a safe, stimulating, and caring environment where each individual is empowered to gain a strong sense of self-worth and purpose through recognition of their talents and abilities as well as their contribution to the community. Placing the needs of the individual at the heart of our commitment to achieve the highest standards of learning and teaching, through extending individual aspirations and developing self-confidence, a love of scholarship, and independence of thought. Providing a creative, stimulating, and challenging curriculum that inspires and equips all to become independent life-long learners in a local, national and global community. Celebrating diversity and individuality within a culture of praise and encouragement that promotes well-being, happiness, and success. Developing, throughout the community, supportive and constructive relationships based on mutual respect and understanding, upholding the values and Christian ideals of our Founders. Working in partnership with all members of the community to promote clear and consistent expectations of behavior needed to foster learning for all, self-discipline, and a sense of personal responsibility. The School follows the guidelines issued by the Department for Education for the safeguarding of children in education.

  7. We have high aspirations for our children and are committed to ensuring that everyone in our academy reaches their full potential and develops the skills to become life-long learner. Our aims and values underpin all of our policy and practice and we ensure that all staff, pupils and the wider community have a shared understanding of our vision. Everyone at our academy aspires to our ‘ACT’ vision where we are ‘Aspirational, Compassionate, Team-players’. Ensure that all of our pupils leave our academy literate and numerate, fully equipped for secondary school. Develop a learning community that inspires everyone to have high aspirations and develop a life-long love of learning Create a stimulating learning environment in which children and adults feel welcome and safe Ensure that equality of opportunity enables everyone to reach their full potential Support children to become confident, well-rounded individuals who recognize the part that they play in society Develop a culture of respect for different beliefs, religions, and cultures and have a good understanding of British values and democracy Provide a rich and balanced curriculum that inspires children and encourages them to take control of their learning Encourage children to take care of their environment and recognize the part that they play in creating a positive learning environment Create an environment that nurtures the spiritual and moral development of every child and promotes respect for diversity Work with parents and the local community to ensure that an academy is a place of learning for all. We aim to make sure that, from the first day of their education, our pupils have a truly happy experience of school. This means teaching them to become confident learners and making sure we nurture each child’s personality and character. We are proud of our children at the Academy. With the help of our wonderful parent body, they are taught to be kind, caring, self-assured, and eager to learn. We hope that you find our website interesting and informative. Our academy is a member of the Harris Federation, a group of 44 primary and secondary academies in and around London educating some 30,000 young people. The Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance enables us not only to train and develop teachers and leaders in our academies but also to do so for other schools. Each academy is led and run by its Principal and other senior leaders: we are deliberately a federation rather than a chain. What unites us is a culture that ensures the children and teenagers in our schools get an excellent education within a happy, caring, and supportive environment. As a result of this, all Harris academies so far to have been inspected by Ofsted have been rated either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ with the vast majority being Outstanding. Many of these academies replaced schools previously considered to have been failing. The Harris Federation has been recognized as a top performer by education researchers at the Department for Education, Sutton Trust, and Education Policy Institute as well as Watchsted and PwC. We are a not-for-profit charity created by Lord Harris of Peckham. He and his family take an active interest in every Harris academy, supporting us financially and with their time. We believe that all children should be equally valued at our Academy. We will strive to eliminate prejudice and discrimination and to develop an environment where all children can flourish and feel safe. We have a range of agreed policies. Harris Primary Academy Crystal Palace is committed to inclusion and part of the Academy’s strategic planning involves developing cultures, policies, and practices that include all learners. We aim to engender a sense of community and belonging and to offer new opportunities to learners who may have experienced previous difficulties. This does not mean that we will treat all learners in the same way, but that we will respond to learners in ways that take into account their varied life experiences and needs. We believe that educational inclusion is about equal opportunities for all learners, whatever their age, gender, demographic group, ethnicity, additional need, attainment, and background. We pay particular attention to the provision for and the achievement of different groups of learners: Students from families that are financially disadvantaged (PP - Pupil Premium) Students who arrive with below nationally expected ability in any area (LAPs) Boys or Girls Students from minority faiths, ethnicities, travelers, asylum seekers, refugees Students who have English as an additional language (EAL) Students who have Special Educational Needs or a Disability (SEND) Students who are Gifted and Talented (G&T) Students who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender (LGBT) Students who are Looked After Children (LAC) Young carers, sick children, children from families under stress Whatever a child’s background or starting point, we want to make sure that they finish Year 6 with the academic skills, social skills, and knowledge necessary to succeed. Every lesson at our school is creative and there is plenty of time for children to think, to play, to discover and wonder. Each child is taught in the way that suits them best and we step in quickly if a change is needed. For some children, this might involve one-to-one support if they are finding something difficult and for others, it could mean stretching them more to keep them interested. Our Academy is relaxed and comfortable but pupils know that good behavior is expected of them. They are frequently praised and rewarded for trying their best and for being kind, hard-working, and well-behaved. We want the Academy to feel friendly and welcoming and we always make sure that every pupil has at least one friend. Our children are taught to respect each other and their teachers. There is a zero-tolerance approach to any type of bullying. View full school

Members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes, just as our students and staff can share their cultural heritage and experiences. Harris City Academy Crystal Palace provides an exciting, personalized learning curriculum, which supports and challenges all of our students and is at the heart of our teaching and learning philosophy. We ensure that all teaching and support staff have access to the highest quality training programs to provide the most innovative and cutting-edge learning opportunities for every student. At Harris City Academy Crystal Palace we provide an extensive program of support, challenge, and intervention for our most able students. Students are assessed and identified at the beginning of each academic year, and the register of most able, gifted, and talented students is regularly reviewed and updated. Most able students benefit from extensive differentiation, our enrichment program of trips and extra-curricular clubs, and regular focussed pastoral support aimed at ensuring that able students are happy and achieve their maximum potential at all stages. Exceptional students benefit from personalized education plans and regular target-setting meetings with staff. The Academy aims to: Meet the needs and aspirations of all students. Ensure all students can successfully access the curriculum offer, making any reasonable adjustments required where particular needs are identified. Recognize high-achieving students and ensure they are given opportunities to stretch and challenge their learning. Plan opportunities for students to develop their potential. Establish an agreed range of policies and practices to guarantee a consistent approach towards learning and teaching in every classroom. Involve all staff in developing and improving the quality of learning and teaching. Provide all staff with developmental opportunities to extend and enhance their range of teaching and repertoires. Develop staff to deliver skills beyond their subject specialism and incorporate cross-curricular initiatives. Identify students’ achievements and areas for improvement, through rigorous monitoring of progress and plan appropriate interventions to enhance learning.
