- At Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green, we believe that consistency and confidence are key to success. As a small academy, with a single form in each year group, we aim to give our pupils a balanced, exciting, and truly enjoyable education that prepares them for success in secondary school and beyond. Located in the heart of Beckenham, we are part of the Harris Federation which runs five other successful primary academies in Bromley and more than 40 academies in total in and around London. We benefit from being part of this thriving community of schools. We are very proud of our children at Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green, who work hard and behave well. They are rewarded for achievement and effort and we always encourage them to reach for their ‘personal best’, academically and in the way they relate to others. The aim of all our teachers, support staff, and leaders is to give every pupil an education they enjoy and which prepares them for academic success and confident, happy lives. Our academy is a member of the Harris Federation, a group of 44 primary and secondary academies in and around London educating some 30,000 young people. The Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance enables us not only to train and develop teachers and leaders in our academies but also to do so for other schools. Each academy is led and run by its Principal and other senior leaders: we are deliberately a federation rather than a chain. What unites us is a culture that ensures the children and teenagers in our schools get an excellent education within a happy, caring, and supportive environment. As a result of this, all Harris academies so far to have been inspected by Ofsted have been rated either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ with the vast majority being Outstanding. Many of these academies replaced schools previously considered to have been failing. The Harris Federation has been recognized as a top performer by education researchers at the Department for Education, Sutton Trust, and Education Policy Institute as well as Watchsted and PwC. We are a not-for-profit charity created by Lord Harris of Peckham. He and his family take an active interest in every Harris academy, supporting us financially and with their time. We want children to retain their individuality and creativity and be treated the right way. With a single form in each year group, children at our academy settle quickly and get to know each other and our staff well. We step in quickly if a change is needed. For some children, this might involve one-to-one support if they are finding something difficult and for others, it could mean stretching them more to keep them interested. As an academy parent, you are welcome to discuss your son or daughter with us at any time. We send progress reports home every term with a full written report at the end of the academic year. We welcome children of all abilities and want them to enjoy school and thrive. For children with Special Educational Needs, one of our first steps is to work with their parents and other specialists to create a plan for supporting them. Our approach as a whole is reviewed with children’s classroom teachers, relevant specialists, and parents every half term. Our aim is that all of our children are well prepared to begin the second phase of their education. With each day, week, term, and year being so significant in a child’s life, consistency is particularly important in their primary education. As part of the Harris Federation, which has its training school for teachers, our staff receives outstanding professional development to make sure that standards are consistently high in every classroom. We work closely with other Harris academies in Bromley to share best practices and welcome the opportunities and additional capacity that gives us as a small school. View full school
- Our Academy opened in September 2015 to provide high-quality primary places for local families. We believe that every child is unique and that each deserves the opportunity to be happy, feel valued, and experience success. We are part of a Federation of schools with an established track record in Bromley and across London. The Harris Federation Primary Team provides a great deal of support to our staff, helping give pupils the highest quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. Our ethos at the Academy is that all children can achieve: it is our job as educators are to do everything possible to enable this to happen. We are delighted to be in a brand new building, which is a bright, modern, and welcoming place for children to attend. Our academy is part of the Harris Federation. This is a not-for-profit charity with over twenty-five years experience of primary, secondary, and sixth form education in and around London. The charity was created by Lord Harris of Peckham. He and his family take an active interest in every Harris academy, supporting us financially and with their time. In addition to the Harris Federation, good causes supported by the Harris family include the NSPCC and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Every Harris Academy is different, serving its community, but we share an ethos that ensures children and teenagers have access to an excellent education within a happy, caring, and supportive environment. There is also a Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance. This enables the Harris Federation not only to train and develop teachers and leaders in its academies but also to deliver outstanding training for other schools across London. Whatever a child's background or starting point, the staff at HPABe are ambitious for all children and aim to ensure they finish Year 6 with the knowledge, academic skills, and life skills to thrive. We recognize and value each child's personality and work to develop their self-confidence and self-esteem. At HPABe we strongly believe that once a child can read they can access the wider world around them. Each day begins with a high-quality phonics lesson and by the end of Year 1, the vast majority of children move away from the phonics program and develop their higher-level comprehension skills. For the rest of the day, children take part in a busy timetable of Mathematics, English, and thematic work which aims to link all areas of the curriculum. Science, P.E, and Mandarin are taught to a high level by subject specialists. Thematic lessons are challenging and link British Values in a meaningful way, they all have the 'wow' factor at the heart to inspire and motivate pupils. Each child will be taught in the way that suits them best and we will step in quickly if a change is needed. All children who need further support receive extra support to ensure that they make rapid progress. We encourage all pupils in EYFS and KS1 who receive a universal free school meal to stay for school lunch. Pupils are served using china plates and eat with their teachers who encourage good table manners and conversation. At HPABe we believe that 'every child matters and every moment counts' We have a strong and committed team who work together to bring this vision to life. We strongly encourage visits to our academy so that you can see our vision in action. At Harris Primary Academy Beckenham we are committed to promoting the progress and attainment of all our pupils, whatever their backgrounds. We commit to the Harris Federation’s equality and diversity statement which can be seen here. The Pupil Premium is part of our overall budget that we receive annually. We are required to account specifically for how we use this fund. It is allocated based on the number of children meeting national criteria based on the Ever 6 Measure. That includes the total number of: Pupils eligible for free school meals – within the last 6 years Looked after children We use our funding to precise target specific teaching and learning programs or related activities. We are committed to ensuring that all our pupils progress well and access high-quality teaching and provision - every day. We carefully track the progress of all children including children from disadvantaged backgrounds through provision maps and at pupil progress meetings every half term. Tracking also enables us to evaluate the impact of our teaching and intervention programs so we can adjust provision and tailor support. That way, we can make sure we are having the desired impact on pupils’ learning and progress. Programs are used across our Early Years, KS1 & KS2 to help identify children who need support to accelerate progress in their mathematics, reading, writing, speaking, and listening. View full school
