- Welcome to the Gray’s Farm Primary Academy website. I hope it can give you a flavor of our school, but we would be very happy for you to visit - our children are our best ambassadors and would love to show off their school. Our pupils will succeed when: They regularly attend school and are rarely absent Parents are supportive of their children’s learning and want them to succeed They work hard, enjoy learning and do as well as they can They trust and respect each other and are determined to be the best they can be They rarely misbehave They know the difference between right and wrong and accept responsibility for the choices that they make At Gray’s Farm, we believe that every child can succeed. We see every child as an individual within the community and we have high expectations of behavior, effort, and parental support, both for their children and for the school. We will ensure that our children will develop high aspirations, self-belief, respect, compassion, and an understanding of their world and their community. As a school, we have The Gray’s Farm 5 and we try to promote and exemplify these in everything we do to ensure that our children can be the best that they can be. Our School Will Succeed When: Teaching is consistently good or better and high expectations are set Attainment levels are in line with or better than the national average Levels of progress are in line with or better than national levels of expectation Behavior in classes and during playtimes is consistently good Attendance is above the national average All our parents are supportive of the school, ensure that their children attend regularly, and assist them by valuing the work of the school and its staff The children of Gray’s Farm, our children, deserve the very best start in life that we can give them. Working with you, we aim for your children’s years at Gray’s Farm to be one of the happiest, most productive, and fulfilling times of their lives. We Believe That: All children should have a thirst for learning and all teachers should have a passion for teaching All members of the Gray’s Farm community are valued equally All our pupils deserve the very best quality of teaching that we can provide Our staff, pupils, and parents deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect and that there is no place for verbal intimidation, aggressive behavior, or violence Our school is at the center of our community and provides a haven for our pupils to grow and develop as well-rounded young people ready to progress confidently onto the next stage of their education We Expect our Pupils to achieve by: Expecting our parents to ensure that their children attend school regularly and on time Setting high expectations of behavior in class and around our school Working hard to fulfill their potential and developing as confident independent learners Providing consistently high-quality teaching at each key stage and in each class Closely monitoring pupil progress and attainment and benchmarking this against national standards Providing targeted support to those pupils who require it Working closely with our parents Valuing every child for the contribution that they make, respecting personal values, and celebrating diversity Providing an innovative, inclusive, and high-quality curriculum as well as opportunities to learn beyond, as well as within, the school’s immediate environment. - At Graveney, we aim to provide an excellent education which not only reflects current developments but also reinforces traditional values and skills. We believe that education should take place in a disciplined atmosphere where pupils are encouraged to learn effectively. In this way, all pupils can achieve their best and become confident, responsible adults, ready to make a positive contribution to the society in which they live and work. We are a school committed to the serious business of study. The school aims to develop the talents and confidence of all its pupils to the full, to equip them with knowledge, skills, and understanding, and to help them towards maturity. We are committed to excellence and high standards in all areas and we value achievement of all kinds. We provide the structure, encouragement, and strategies that inspire and enable students to strive for high achievement in every aspect of their work and development. These strategies include additional studies after school and during the holidays which Graveney students attend to ensure that all have the opportunity to achieve. By seeking to raise levels of expectation regarding future goals, we aim to ensure equality of opportunity The school actively opposes all forms of discrimination. Outstanding care, guidance, and support are real strengths of the school. These key strengths reflect our inclusive ethos and provide the climate for everyone to fulfill their potential. We believe that all children should be able to grow and develop in circumstances where they feel safe and supported. Graveney School is committed to working with pupils, parents, and outside agencies to promote the welfare of children and safeguard them from harm. The school has a comprehensive E-Safety Policy which is supported by extensive day-to-day procedures which have been developed in consultation with staff and students. There are many ways staff and pupils can report issues and access support in school. Click here to access the Child Exploitation Online Protection Centre and CEOP Advice for Parents. Our pupils have access to state-of-the-art technology which supports their learning across all areas of the curriculum. We are a school committed to the serious business of study. We promote the skills and attitudes that enable lifelong learning whilst also providing a range of enrichment opportunities to develop self-confidence and promote integration. We believe that our school has a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes the academic, personal, social, and physical development of all pupils and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life. Pupils at Key Stage 3 study a wide curriculum designed to offer engagement and enrichment as well as providing a solid foundation for later success in public examinations. Pupils are taught in broadly banded tutor groups for most subjects but there is further setting in Maths from year 8 onwards. All the tutor groups follow the same curriculum, although some may move faster than others, so there is no ceiling on potential achievement. All pupils have access to a range of further opportunities including twilight lessons in additional subjects, day trips, school journeys, and extra-curricular clubs and societies. All Key Stage 4 pupils follow a course leading to public examinations [GCSE or BTEC] in a range of subjects, including a minimum score of English, Maths Science, and RS as well as non-examination courses in PE, PSHE, and Citizenship. A large majority also study a modern foreign language, and most take either history or geography, giving them the complete range of EBACC subjects. Pupils follow one of three pathways leading to between 8 and 11 examination subjects, so there are some banding and fine setting in the core. Optional subjects run across the entire year group and maybe completely mixed inability. The biggest single-center sixth form in the country! With over 700 students in our sixth form, we can offer a wide and exciting range of level three courses, including 32 A-Level subjects. The sixth form curriculum choices are very broad, offering an extensive range of subject choices at both AS level and A level. We are very proud of the provision we offer which can be explored by viewing other areas of the Sixth Form section. View full school

- Grosvenor Avenue Infant School strives to create an atmosphere where all children and adults feel safe, valued, and included. The kind of place where every child can arrive with a smile on their face, where there is a keen sense of belonging and pride in their school. We believe that all children have a voice to be heard and that their care and education must lie at the heart of everything we do. Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfill their potential. A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important in its own right, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.” We understand that every child is unique and that children join us from a wide range of settings, including some children who have not yet been in a formal setting of any sort. We manage support children to settle into our reception class. Each child has the opportunity to visit the school for a ‘Stay and Play' afternoon’ in the summer term before they start school. This gives the children the opportunity to become familiar with their new environment, their teachers, and a few of their peers, with their parents present. Every family will be offered a home visit from the Reception team. This gives children (& parents and carers) the opportunity to get to know each other in a familiar environment. If your child already attends a nursery or pre-school, the Reception team will visit them there during the summer term. The children are then split into three-phased entry groups, ready for the beginning of the Autumn term. You will find out which group your child is in at the New Parent meeting in June. We induct 10 children at a time, using a system that includes morning, lunch, and whole day sessions. These entry groups are created randomly and are therefore flexible, based on information from parents regarding preferences and their child’s individual needs. In Reception, we use a system called Evernote for storing the observations made of children. Each child will have their own ‘notebook’ which will be shared with parents during their child’s focus week (and at any other time a parent requests this). This enables parents to have a complete understand ding of their child’s progress and development across all seven areas of learning. Observations will be recorded in the form of written text and photographs and occasionally video and audio observations. Parents are given access to their own child’s Evernote notebook via a unique log-in. They are encouraged to use this regularly to keep themselves informed about the learning their child is involved in during their school day. The system also allows parents to add photos and observations of their own to support the practitioners to develop a complete picture of each child. The Reception team is always available to support parents with any aspect of this online recording system. They can be contacted either in person or online through the system itself. To ensure that all pupils leave Grosvenor having had a positive and fulfilling school career, and have every opportunity to meet their full potential. We aim for each child to leave Grosvenor with positive self-belief, having a ‘can do’ approach to learning, and being Resilient, Reflective, and Ready for the future. At Grosvenor, we provide a clear focus on positive outcomes for our children and young people the focus is NOT on hours of provision. We aim to achieve this by fully including our parents/carers and pupils in their education and planning for each step of their achievements. At Grosvenor, we promote friendship and positive relationships to ensure all children and adults enjoy their learning. We encourage mutual respect for people and possessions while consistently promoting self-esteem and empathy for others. We aim to focus on positive behaviors rather than unwanted behaviors by the use of our Golden Rules and House Points and also giving positive feedback to the children in our community. - At Grasmere, we understand that to learn well, children need to be happy, safe, valued, and engaged at school. We have an inclusive approach to ensure every child is supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. We have a dedicated staff team who are skilled in finding ways to stretch and challenge children of all abilities to ensure progress. Attainment at Grasmere is among the highest in the Borough and we have exceptionally high expectations of children’s learning and behavior. Key to our success is our close working relationships with parents, carers, and the wider community. We believe in giving children enriching opportunities through our curriculum with creative arts, music, and physical education at the heart of learning, enthusing children in all they do. We know that our children will leave Grasmere feeling confident and fully equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful individuals and lifelong learners. At Grasmere Primary School we are committed to high expectations in all areas of school life. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum with a focus on Literacy, and Mathematics Physical and Creative Arts Education. As a result of the Government’s Childcare Bill, we are obliged to provide a total of 30 hours of child care to eligible children (15 hours as a free entitlement and then an additional 15 hours for working families.) Parents will need to complete an online eligibility check if they are going to apply for this additional funding. Parents will need to include the eligibility code on their nursery enrolment form. We will need to amend our admissions criteria to be able to offer 30 hours of free childcare to eligible parents, in addition to maintaining our provision of 15 hours of free entitlement to three-and four-year-olds. At Grasmere, we are proud to offer a happy, inclusive and caring learning environment at our school. We want to make sure that every single one of all our children can develop to their full potential academically and socially so that they have the best possible start to their lives. The Governing Body works closely with the Headteacher and staff. We are responsible for monitoring and evaluating the performance and effectiveness of the school, ensuring that the budget is well managed, and supporting our excellent and dedicated staff team in their work. We have a wonderful parent and carers association here at Grasmere, Friends of Grasmere School, or FROGS as they are known. They are very active and organize many activities and events throughout the school year. The funds raised by FROGS are hugely important and help to provide the children with as many experiences as possible while supporting the curriculum. Grasmere School has an active and committed team of governors, one third are parents and carers of children at the school. Governors play an important role in our school life by volunteering their time to support the strategic development of the school. The Governing Body has responsibility for the strategic development of the school in the areas of safeguarding, finance, curriculum, inclusion, welfare and discipline, health and safety, premises, staffing, and school meals. As a Governing Body, we work with the headteacher and the school staff to have an overview of policy for the school in each of these areas. Grasmere school has an outstanding offer for this area of the curriculum which includes lessons taught by teachers, additional sessions taught by specialists, after-school clubs, junior and infant clubs, and competitions that the school takes part in. The Department for Education will give Grasmere £8,890 in the year 2016-17 towards the costs incurred in providing opportunities for our children in sport. We provide lessons in Orienteering, athletics, triathlons, sailing, kayaking, squash, tag rugby, swimming, gymnastics, hockey, ice skating, tennis, cricket, and football. We take part in competitions related to these in local and national championships including the annual Hackney championship. Grasmere Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Since Modern Foreign Languages became compulsory in Primary Schools in 2012, Grasmere Primary School has been teaching Spanish to its pupils from age 3. We believe that our nursery and primary school children should learn a foreign language from age three. This would give our pupils a much stronger foundation, which they can build on in secondary school to become fluent. We also believe that learning another language is good for young children and it will give them more options in education and work. As research suggested that being taught a foreign language can help to improve conversation skills and literacy in English, as well as benefit study in other subjects. Please inform the school of relevant details concerning your child’s medical condition so that we are aware of any problems which might arise and can deal with them accordingly. Similarly, please send a note if there is any allergy regarding food at lunchtime. You must notify us of any changes to medical conditions. If your child has taken ill or has an accident at school we will try to get in contact with you immediately. It is therefore essential that we have details of where you can be contacted in an emergency. Please make sure you inform us of any change of address, change of work, or change of telephone number. The curriculum is designed to support children to make links in their learning identifying how to process and present scientific evidence through statistics in maths, for example, or using the skills of diary writing learned in English in the morning to record historical facts in the afternoon lesson. To support these links in learning the design of the curriculum is broadly built around topics. Additional work in English, Maths, and ICT may also be planned. Topics generally last for half a term. Information about class topics is available from the curriculum information leaflets. Learning in the classroom is enriched through the careful selection of related educational visits, visitors, and special events. This year Years 5 and 4 have swimming lessons on a Tuesday. We greatly appreciate parental support for educational visits, with practical work in the classroom, during library sessions, and for reading activities. If you can offer some time to the school please see the class teacher or the team in the main office. We also appreciate parental involvement in homework activities. Parental support to ensure that homework tasks are completed and return to school by the due date is invaluable. If there is a particular reason why your child has been unable to complete their homework, please let the class teacher know through the ‘home school link book’. View full school

- We are a primary school, based in Eastcote, Middlesex, for children with severe learning difficulties and physical and complex needs, including ASD. We are proud to be part of the Eden Academy, a family of schools who work together under one Academy Trust, with access to a wide range of expertise and services. The relationship between pupils and staff at Grangewood is excellent. The school is a happy and purposeful environment where children are praised and acknowledged for who they are as well as what they do. We provide a safe and supportive environment for children with a range of special needs and strengths. We also aim to provide within the school an ethos in which regard for others is of the greatest importance. Our focus at Grangewood is on the 'whole child' and so we combine strong, multi-professional teams to integrate education with therapy, with an extensive range of activities for children and their families after school and during the holidays. Almost all pupils have language and communication difficulties. All pupils have a statement or EHC plan of special educational needs. Pupils come from the London Borough of Hillingdon and neighboring authorities. Many pupils come from homes where English is not the first language. Approximately one-third of pupils are eligible to receive the pupil premium (additional government funding for children who are looked after and those eligible for free school meals), which is much higher than the national average. Grangewood School converted to become an academy school in October 2012. Since then it has worked in close collaboration with other special schools in the area. The Principal has responsibility for all of these schools. The Head of School at Grangewood works very closely with the Principal and other academy leaders. A team of therapists is employed directly by the academy to work with pupils at this school daily. At Grangewood School we work in a fun, creative way to ensure that each child develops a love for learning. We know our children very well and plan their learning individually, drawing on their strengths, skills, and interests, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. All pupils are taught in small class groups with the average class size being eight pupils. Every class in addition to a teacher has 3 or 4 qualified and experienced Teaching Assistants. The child: staff ratio is never less than 2:1. This helps to ensure that all pupils receive an appropriate balance of whole-class, small-group, and individual teaching. Many of our children are assessed as needing one or more of our therapies – Occupational Therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, creative therapy (music drama dance, and movement). The school employs its educational psychologist who assesses children on request and offers advice on strategies. Vision and hearing specialists are on hand as are pediatricians and other health experts. We have a senior teacher with expertise in meeting the needs of ASD pupils. The school is purpose-built and is all on one level with easy access to all areas. Several of the rooms have ceiling hoists and there are enough mobile hoists for all children who need to use them. The building has been developed and expanded over the years in keeping with the original style. The classrooms are all well equipped and the majority have their quiet room, many with distraction-free workstation areas. The majority of the classes have their playground area as well as the main one. We have one purpose-built TEACCH room and several specialist teaching areas. The site is both safe and secure. - Our children are at the center of everything we do and this was reflected in our last ESTYN inspection report (2012) when inspectors stated that the school is a fully inclusive community and all pupils are valued and treated equally. Our school motto is, ‘Achieve our Best. Celebrate Success’. We encourage our children to give their best academically, socially, and through a range of extra-curricular activities. By showing that we expect the best, the children give their best and so reach their full potential. We provide a rich, broad, and balanced curriculum, focusing on the development of skills, which can be applied in a range of contexts. Our children’s views and ideas are sought at every opportunity, as we attach a great deal of importance to developing confident children who can contribute fully to the life of the school. We work hard to develop self-assurance, self-belief, and independence. As parents and carers, you have a vital role to play in the education of your child. We aim to keep you fully informed of any developments. Regular contact is positively encouraged – if you have any worries or questions - come and talk to us! We send home a newsletter each month and hold annual induction meetings with parents and two formal parents’ evenings a year. We are fortunate to have a very supportive Governing Body that is willing to ask challenging questions on the children’s behalf. This promotes the school’s philosophy of regular and rigorous self-evaluation supporting school improvement to provide the very best education for all the children. Learning together for a bright future. Grangetown Primary School is a multi-cultural community. We include and respect everyone - celebrating our differences and sameness. Parents, governors, staff, and children work together to ensure everyone is supported on their path to personal excellence. Our learners must feel physically and emotionally safe, fit, and happy as these are essential precursors to learning. In our multi-lingual school, we strive to provide our children with the words to express their emotions, thoughts, and ideas. Possessing an enquiring mind, along with being literate, numerate, and technologically able is essential if our learners are to prosper in a rapidly changing world. Valuing the Arts and creativity, along with a passionate belief in the principles of democracy, tolerance, honesty, and kindness is essential if the world is to thrive. Our children are the future citizens and guardians of the world, and so we teach them to understand they have responsibilities and rights and their choices must be informed and ethical. We work hard, alone and together, to think and solve problems. Our greatest pleasure comes in supporting each other to achieve personal goals. View full school

- Here at Grange, we offer a unique service to the children of Manchester by providing a rich, stimulating, and engaging learning environment for those children and young people who would most benefit from our autism-specific approaches. We have developed a holistic approach to working with our pupils, their families, and the wider community and offer a range of therapeutic interventions based on best practice and current knowledge. We are a whole school community, we value close partnership working and encourage tolerance and respect while celebrating and supporting difference. Grange School aims to create and maintain a safe learning environment where all children and adults feel safe, secure, and valued and know they will be listened to and taken seriously. Our school is committed to the principles outlined in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015’ and implements policies, practices, and procedures which promote safeguarding and the emotional and physical well-being of children, young people, and staff. Each Pathway follows a curriculum designed for the pupils in each area. While we are mindful of the National Curriculum and must teach this, our approach to delivery is focused on the needs and abilities of our learners. The school is committed to supporting the delivery of effective early help using The Multi-Agency Levels of Need and Response Framework. The children have access to appropriate curriculum opportunities, including emotional health and well-being, to support the development of the skills needed to help them stay safe and healthy, develop their self-esteem and understand the responsibilities of adult life, particularly regarding child care and parenting skills. Grange School exists to provide the “Autism Community” of Manchester and beyond with an outstanding education service. As part of that role, we offer a city-wide outreach service. Outreach support and advice are available to all Manchester schools to help you develop autism awareness and autism-specific approaches. The Outreach Team aims to raise your capacity to meet the needs of the autistic children and young people in your care. The ELE room or Extended Learning Environment provides opportunities for our children and young people to explore and interact with the world through the use of sight, sound, touch, and movement. we adapt this peaceful space to suit each child’s communication and sensory likes and goals. Assessment across the department is based on clear, concise observations of children that show development against the Early Learning Goals as well as the whole school assessment tool, B Squared. This will frequently highlight the very spiky development profile of young learners with autism. Children who start in the First Steps Pathway are also baselined against an autism-specific tool that establishes how children best learn, how a child’s autism presents itself, and identifies strategies that will help a child’s overall development. All children in the First Steps Pathway have a communication toolbox, individual targets and plans, and a behavior support program if appropriate. These are reviewed regularly in conjunction with Speech and Language Therapy and or Occupational Therapy input as appropriate. Learning walls are being developed across the key stage. These will highlight priorities for learning each half term. They are supported by regular and close observations of children engaging in their learning journey. The Key stage has standardized Learning Journeys that collect evidence of learning across the seven areas of the curriculum. Evidence is collected each half term for the prime areas of the curriculum. Evidence for the specific areas is collected across each term. These represent each child’s skill level against the whole school assessment tool B squared. Alongside this is the Assessment for Learning observation which aims to inform future planning according to each child’s unique interests. We encourage self-evaluation through daily celebration times were ‘WOW’ moments are recorded and celebrated for each child. These also form part of the individual child’s learning journey evidence. Snapshots of children at play are annotated by the child wherever possible through the use of our pupil voice ‘smiley face’ system. These are added to the Learning Journey each term. The next steps are identified. Parents are also encouraged to celebrate their child’s good news and contribute to the Learning Journey. We closely adhere to the statutory framework of EYFS provision whilst adapting the delivery of that curriculum to the autism-specific needs of our children. View full school

However, we recognize that the educational needs of every child are different, which means that for some children to reach their potential there may be a need for additional support. This support is delivered as a whole school approach with all our staff working together to ensure the best for each child in our school. In addition to this inclusive approach, additional support is also available from the school’s SENCO and the school’s Inclusion Officer. View full school

We are proud of our achievements in this area including the Mayor of London Healthy Schools Silver Award. The school offers Nursery places to 120 children. From September each year children as young as 3 years old start in the Nursery in Autumn Term with a staggered entry up to October. At Grange Park, we follow the National Curriculum. In this section, you will find information regarding the programs of study that pupils will follow throughout their time here and also extra-curricular opportunities that are open to them. At Grange Park Infant & Nursery School, we believe that everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. We want everyone connected with this school to feel safe, secure, valued, and of equal worth. Our educational philosophy is built on providing a broad and balanced curriculum for every child, promoting mutual respect and tolerance of all members of the school community, and offering opportunities to all pupils in all subject areas and school life. All lessons are developed with our ethos in mind and ensure everyone can contribute. Our work to foster a culture of respect for selves and others includes holding regular assemblies and maintaining our Golden Rules and House Points systems. Our Equality Policy is the official framework for making sure that action is taken and ongoing plans are made to promote, maintain and improve equality in our school community. It has been written in consultation with the Equality Act 2010 and The Education (School Performance Information) (England) Regulations 2001.
- Granard Primary School opened in 1953 and was built on the site of Granard House, the home of the Taylor Family, from which the school takes its name. The school’s spacious grounds are full of established trees that were part of the Granard Estate and are dominated by the magnificent 300-year-old Cedar tree, which is the school’s emblem. The school provides education for pupils within the age ranges of 3 – 11 years (Early Years to Year 6). We are three form entry in Reception and Key Stage 1 and two forms throughout the rest of the school. We have a wonderful community spirit that celebrates our vibrant and diverse multi-cultural community. Granard Primary School is proud to be partnered with Wandsworth Primary Schools' Consortium, providing high-quality school-based teacher training in Wandsworth schools. The aims of the curriculum are to: Provide a broad and balanced creative curriculum to ensure children develop a range of knowledge, skills, and understanding. Enable children to develop the skills and attributes needed to be successful learners. Promote high standards in reading, writing, and maths. Encourage creative thinking and problem solving through opportunities to work scientifically and link this way of thinking with Computer Science and the Arts. Provide opportunities for speaking and listening activities such as debates and discussions as well as risk-taking and inquiry so children actively take responsibility for their learning and development. Encourage children to be self-reflective about themselves and their work. Provide stimulating, engaging lessons, which spark children’s interest in learning and develop a love of learning. Promote the school values so that children develop empathy for others and are encouraged to develop spiritually and morally. Provide opportunities to practice personal and social skills through working independently and collaboratively. Expect the best possible attainment and progress for all pupils. At Granard Primary School we believe the assessment is fundamental to being able to extend and challenge children’s learning so that they can fulfill their potential. It informs planning and provides learning focus in lessons, driving knowledge, skills, and understanding. The assessment provides evidence as to the effectiveness of teaching and learning, informing the school of the impact of practice by measuring pupil progress and attainment. We believe that School Development should be evidence-based. As such, assessment underpins it. View full school

- Our School Values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. Our School Values have been created by our parents, carers, grandparents, governors, staff, and pupils. Our School Values help our pupils to be the best citizens they can be. Our School Values help our pupils to develop positive relationships, understand their feelings, develop empathy and understand how important their contributions are to school and community life. Our School Values are taught alongside the SEAL and ELSA program to fully support all our pupils' emotional, social and behavioral development. Graig-Y-Rhacca Primary and Nursery Community School is a wonderful place. We are honored to be the Headteacher of such a very special school. Our children are happy, polite, caring, hardworking, and keen learners. Staff is dedicated, motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to our pupils and our community. We are committed to developing positive relationships with our parents and our community to ensure the best for our pupils. In Graig-Y-Rhacca Primary and Nursery Community School we believe in our core values, these help our pupils to be the best they can be in school and our community. We are committed to ensuring that our pupils are given the best opportunities to excel. We provide our pupils with an array of enriching learning experiences and we ensure that all pupils learn in a warm, caring, and nurturing environment. We believe that for our pupils to achieve their best, they must thrive personally as well as academically. Children learn through first-hand experiential activities with the serious business of ‘play’ providing the vehicle. Through their play, children practice and consolidate their learning, play with ideas, experiment, take risks, solve problems, and make decisions individually, in small and in large groups. First-hand experiences allow children to develop an understanding of themselves and the world in which they live. The development of children’s self-image and feelings of self-worth and self-esteem are at the core of this phase. The Foundation Phase curriculum is planned as a progressive framework that spans four years (3 to 7 years) to meet the diverse needs of all children, including those who are at an earlier stage of development and those who are more able. Throughout their formative years, children’s learning develops more rapidly than at any other time. However, progress is not even and children go through periods of rapid development and times when they seem to regress. A curriculum for young children should be appropriate to their stage of learning rather than focusing solely on age-related outcomes to be achieved. Children should move on to the next stages of their learning when they are developmentally ready and at their own pace. View full school
