Our Academy opened in September 2012 one of the 44 academies within the Harris Federation. We are sponsored by Lord Harris of Peckham and enjoy the benefits of being part of a high-achieving Federation. All of our academies have been graded as 'Good' or 'Outstanding' from Ofsted. Harris Primary Academy Coleraine Park is an Outstanding primary academy and we have high expectations and aspirations for your children.
We give them opportunities to enjoy their learning and prepare them for future academic success as well as happy lives. We have a unique creative curriculum, a clear vision, high expectations, strong moral values, and a love of learning. Our academy is a multi-cultural, multi-faith family where children learn together. They respect and value each other.
We believe all children are special and we "dig for gold" in every child. This means encouraging children to do their very best, not settling for second-best. The Academy is located in the heart of Tottenham and we are very proud of all of our children. However, academic attainment is not enough. We want to grow children who care enough to make a difference in the world. Therefore, we emphasize strong moral values which together form the daily diet at Harris Coleraine Park.
We have high expectations for behavior and learning and therefore high expectations of outcomes for children. We want to raise standards and expectations by making sure that, whatever a child’s background or starting point is, they finish Year 6 with the academic skills, social skills, and knowledge necessary to succeed.
Our aim is that each of our students should be able to hit the ground running when they begin secondary school. Learning at Harris Primary Academy Coleraine Park is exciting, engaging, and relevant. It prepares children for the world we live in now and for our future. In January 2014 we introduced a brand new curriculum which links learning to a theme. Each half term there is a whole-school theme, which is then divided into year group specific aspects, and most subjects are taught through the theme where possible.
Our curriculum has been written to be in line with the new national curriculum for England. As half termly units are completed they will be published on our website.
There are daily lessons in English (Reading, Writing, Phonics, Spelling, and Grammar) and Mathematics for children of all ages. This helps to make sure that they become confident readers, writers, and mathematicians in the earliest years of their education.
Children also learn science, history, geography, RE, PE, art, design technology, drama, dance, and music. They study Personal, Social, and Citizenship education and begin learning a modern foreign language in Year 3. PE, Dance, and Drama are taught by two specialist teachers which ensure children reach the very highest standards possible in all subjects.
Reading is a key area for improvement in our academy. The purpose of storytime:
- To instill the love of books and the excitement of reading.
- To enrich the vocabulary and extend children's ideas for writing.
- To encourage/challenge children to increase/extended their reading.
Creativity, fun, and self-expression are important aspects of Academy life and, across every subject, we make sure there are time and space for children to develop their imagination and their thinking skills.
