It is our pleasure to welcome you to Harris Academy Tottenham, confident that whatever the abilities, talents, and needs of your child, we will be able to support, encourage and challenge them to reach their potential. We are a brand new Academy, based at the heart of Tottenham, providing excellent quality educational provision for young people in the local area. We opened in September 2014 to Reception and Year 7 students, and are now building on our excellent foundations, in our permanent accommodation in Ashley Road, Tottenham Hale. We believe that we offer a unique opportunity for young people to experience a cohesive and progressive education, building on the strong foundations we build in our Primary phase, to reach exceptional career and further education pathways at the end of our Sixth Form age. We make sure that not a moment is missed to help your child progress and reach their full potential. Our Academy is based on an ethos of excellence, encouraging students to fulfill our high expectations through a dedicated and committed approach. We combine the hallmarks of traditional Secondary education with a progressive curriculum in our brand new facilities. We believe that children thrive when they are consistently happy and safe at Primary School. Each child will be taught in the way that suits them best and we will step in quickly if a change is needed. For some children, this might involve one-to-one support if they are finding something difficult and for others, it could mean stretching them more to keep them interested. Our Academy is relaxed and comfortable but pupils will know that good behavior is expected of them. They will be frequently praised and rewarded for trying their best and for being kind, hard-working, and well-behaved. We want the school to feel friendly and welcoming and will always make sure that every pupil has at least one friend. Our children will be taught to respect each other. We believe that when a school gives its students the confidence to believe they are capable of excellence, this is exactly what they go on to achieve. The ethos of our Secondary phase is grounded in the traditions of hard work, good manners, smart uniform, and academic achievement. We combine these with the best of modern teaching and technology. Class sizes are kept as small as possible and students will find that the atmosphere is disciplined and rigorous but also positive. Learning does not begin and end at the classroom door. Students regularly participate in practical projects, activity days, and masterclasses in all manner of subjects. In addition to what they learn in the classroom, these activities will help to bring learning alive. Our Academy is a specialist Maths and Enterprise Academy. This means that while offering a broad and balanced curriculum with a full range of subjects, we have a clear emphasis on “enterprise” across the curriculum. This will involve actively developing the skills of self-presentation, initiative-taking, creative problem solving, decision making, team working and interpersonal skills in a variety of contexts, so building self-esteem and confidence. As Students, you are taught how to learn and expected to share in the responsibility for their learning. You are encouraged to think creatively and expected to complete schoolwork and homework to high standards. Harris Academy Tottenham provides an exciting, personalized learning curriculum, which supports and challenges all of our students and is at the heart of our teaching and learning philosophy. Ensure all students can successfully access the curriculum offer, making any reasonable adjustments required where particular needs are identified. Identify students’ achievements and areas for improvement, through rigorous monitoring of progress and plan appropriate interventions to enhance learning. Realize the entitlements for Learners, Teachers, and Curriculum as promoted by the Student Learning Commission. We believe that all children, including those identified as having Special Educational Needs as well as every other student, have a common entitlement to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum. This curriculum should be accessible to them, and they will be fully included in all aspects of Academy life. We recognize that pupils learn at different rates and that there are many factors affecting achievement, including ability, emotional state, age, and maturity. We are particularly aware of the needs of our pupils, for whom maturity is a crucial factor in terms of readiness to learn. We believe that many pupils, at some time in their Academic career, may experience difficulties that affect their learning, and we recognize that these may be long or short term. It is our pleasure to welcome you to the London Academy of Excellence Tottenham. The mission of our new school is a simple one - to provide students with a first-class academic education in the heart of Tottenham. To support this, LAE Tottenham is proud to have the backing of our principal educational sponsor, Highgate School. Alongside Highgate, we have developed an ethos that focuses primarily on outstanding academic achievement but also prioritizes the development of young peoples' skills and personal qualities thereby supporting them to make a positive contribution to society. Students at LAE Tottenham study a curriculum made up of facilitating or hard A Level subjects, allowing them to aim for the very best destinations for university and employment. The expertise shared through Highgate and our nine other partner schools aim to break down all barriers to top-class higher education, regardless of the background of our students, ensuring that students not only gain a place at a top university but feel that they belong when they arrive. We are also extremely fortunate to receive significant support from Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, including a state-of-the-art school building adjacent to the new White Hart Lane development, the center of regeneration in the North Tottenham area. The London Academy of Excellence Tottenham is a new, academically selective 16-19 free school opened as part of the redevelopment of White Hart Lane in September 2017. London Academy of Excellence Tottenham is the place for academic rigor. We exist to provide the very best opportunities for our students with a particular focus on developing confident learners who achieve top A-Level grades thus opening the door to the best further education available to them. Beyond this, we aim to ensure that once students access the most competitive courses at top universities, they have the confidence and resilience to feel that they belong. We aspire to provide our students with the same opportunities as students at the leading independent schools. We provide a fully enriched curriculum offering opportunities which broaden the experience of our students. We have strong links with several independent schools including our ten partner schools. Traditionally these schools have been the most successful at securing places for their sixth formers at Oxford, Cambridge, and other Russell Group universities. These links are invaluable in developing the social capital of our young people and coupled with our strong links with the universities themselves, this ensures that the provision at LAE Tottenham is amongst the very best on offer. To best prepare students for top universities and employment beyond, there are three core aspects to life at LAE Tottenham: An academically rigorous curriculum, Extensive opportunities for enrichment through weekly Clubs and Societies (C&S) and Sport and Exercise (Spex), 3) A focus on giving back to the local community through weekly projects. Pastorally, students are supported through tutors via a house system, which provides them with a clear point of contact for pastoral issues. Students receive regular tutorials focused not only on preparation for higher education and employment but also on helping them to develop the personal skills for success. In addition to this, an SEN Learning Support Lead, a Pastoral Support Officer, and a School Counsellor are available to ensure that LAE Tottenham offers a supportive learning atmosphere. The curriculum offers only facilitating or ‘hard’ A-Level courses, to allow students to progress to top universities. The curriculum consists of Art, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, D&T (Engineering), Economics, English Literature, French, Further Maths, Geography, History, Maths, Physics, Politics, Psychology, and Spanish. All students have the opportunity to choose four A-Level subjects, with a further option of the Extended Project Qualification. It is envisaged that the majority of students will continue with four courses until the end of year 12, then studying three in year 13.
