Founded by Bishop Charles F. Buddy, our school opened in 1960 as Marian High School, the first coeducational Catholic high school in the Diocese of San Diego. It was built on twenty acres of land just outside of Imperial Beach—generously donated by notable Catholic philanthropists, Emma and Robert Egger. The first school building opened with just three classrooms and expanded over the next 46 years. In 1985, Marian High changed its name to Marian Catholic High School, to more clearly identify it as a Catholic institution. In 2007, thanks to a generous donation from the ALSAM Foundation, the campus moved to a new 50-acre state-of-the-art facility in Chula Vista. The s…

Nerinx Hall is a private, Catholic, college-preparatory high school, founded on the belief that educated, caring, and empowered young women are essential to our world. Our name is a tribute to Reverend Charles Nerinckx, a missionary priest from Belgium who worked on the Kentucky frontier. There, he met three young women, Mary Rhodes, Ann Havern, and Christina Stuart, who had established a school for the children of pioneer families. They asked Father Nerinckx to assist them to form a new religious community, one of the first in the United States dedicated to faithful education. Today, Nerinx Hall continues to dedicate itself to this mission, by educating young women in …

Montana Academy is a therapeutic boarding school for struggling teenagers. At its founding in 1997, it was unique in the nation. For it combined well-trained clinicians, an effective therapeutic program, and a challenging prep school, all situated on a remote Montana ranch. In the years after its opening, the Academy fulfilled its promise to become a remarkable combination of clinical sophistication, staged incentives, and ambitious academics. Emancipated from intrusive insurance companies and the mediocrity of “managed care,” its staff has been free to do its best work. Removed from the distractions of mass culture, shielded from ubiquitous illicit drugs, unplugged …

Notre Dame Academy has been a second home and an important part of my family history since the 1960s. The Sisters of Notre Dame raised us all with their charism and traditions. Central to that charism is the Sisters’ emphasis on the human dignity of each person as the image of God. That principle continues to inform our community as we value every student and challenge each to develop her gifts and broaden her worldview. It also provides the foundation for our interaction among the faculty, parents, and administrators. While our community has long been characterized as “nice,” this year we will challenge each other to above all, be kind. Kindness recognizes the right th…
