The continued strong growth in Gawura this year has been extremely encouraging. It is lovely to see the children's day to day effort and enthusiasm for all aspects of school life. Each day begins like the last. Smiling faces, a chat with our bus driver, a race around our rooftop playground, and into class to make the most of every opportunity. This love of school is infectious, and it is promoting tremendous success both individually and collectively. Gawura was established in 2007 by St Andrew's Cathedral School in response to systemic underachievement and the apparent disparity in educational outcomes of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. The Head of School at…

St Aidan's is a Prep to Year 12 Anglican day school for girls, with a co-educational Kindergarten. It is located in Corinda, with approximately 800 students, reflecting our belief that students experience many smaller school benefits. St Aidan's was established in 1929 by the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent, an order of Anglican sisters committed to serving God through nurturing and serving young women. On day one, Sister Elisabeth was Sister-in-Charge at St Margaret's, and Mrs. Christine Hartland was Headmistress at St Aidan's. They both upheld the view that education for girls needed to equip them for life. To this day, the school's mission remains the …

Outdoor education is part of every day at Spirit of Play, as the children are engaged in their environment within and outside of the school grounds. Years 1 to 6 each spends a week on Walkabout, an opportunity to integrate all the curriculum areas in a meaningful exploration of the local environment and visit community organizations. We explore the world and look for occasions and ways of giving back to the land, saying thank you and appreciate this beautiful country. The children are encouraged to help those younger or less capable than themselves. We have sharing circles to deepen the group's connections and strengthen the children's communication and understanding of…

Montessori philosophy embraces the whole child, their natural curiosity, and love of learning. Based on mutual respect and cooperation, Montessori education encourages independence by providing environments that meet children's developmental needs. This builds self-confidence, inner discipline, a sense of self-worth and promotes positive social behavior. Dr. Maria Montessori's insights and understanding of child development have been enormously influential worldwide, both through the Montessori movement and in mainstream education, which has incorporated many of her practices. Interestingly, Montessori education parallels what is now known about brain development and…

Selecting an education program for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. In a world that is rapidly becoming more competitive, your child must be adequately prepared for his/her future. Our school has developed specific characteristics to accomplish this goal. One such feature is the structure of our learning centers. By combining ages and abilities, the more gifted students are challenged with an expanded curriculum. At the same time, the other students are motivated by contact with the more gifted. We also stress the importance of a low student/teacher ratio, which translates into more "one on one" interaction between staff members a…
