About Me

  1. The Hills Montessori School is an independent parent/staff run school located in an idyllic bush setting in the Adelaide Hills, proudly offering an education founded on Montessori's philosophy and Montessori principles of education. We currently offer programs from birth to Year 10. The Yultiwirra campus in Aldgate offers education from birth to Year 6. In 2011 we opened the first Montessori Middle School in South Australia, located at the Wairoa Campus in Stirling, and currently caters to 12-16-year-olds. The Hills Montessori School provides students with a secure, happy, and prosperous environment where they learn at their rate, undertaking tasks appropriate to their development level in a caring and non-competitive environment. The Hills Montessori School philosophy is based on the universal values of self-respect, respect for others, and respect for the environment, fostering a love of learning and a sense of community responsibility. For more than 35 years, The Hills Montessori School has been educating children and supporting and encouraging them to become self-motivated learners who will act responsibly and embrace the future with confidence and a positive outlook. Our Values We are dedicated to educating the whole child and guiding their individual development. We respect each other and our shared environment. We take responsibility for ourselves as learners and as participants in the community. We appreciate diversity and are committed to treating each person positively and with dignity. We value collaboration, consultation, and a strong sense of community. We believe that the education of individuals is for the betterment of humankind. The Hills Montessori School began as a Pre-school in 1978, with its first children beginning their learning for life in a private home. Larger premises were soon needed, and the Old Police Station at Nairne was selected to satisfy the school’s growth. It was here, in 1981, that tuition was extended to Junior Primary. A new campus was established at Aldgate in 1985, offering both pre-school and primary tuition. Continued growth in enrolments created the need for a permanent school site. In 1987, a 2-hectare block of land on Anderson Road, Aldgate, was purchased from the Field Naturalists Society. Great care and thought went into designing and siting the buildings in sympathy with the bush environment. View full school
  2. The Hills Grammar School was founded in 1982 with the purchase of a 10-hectare site in Kenthurst, 30km north-west of Sydney CBD. It was a beginning that had boldness and hope at its heart. The almost-country school of 1983 now sits on the perimeter of rapid suburban expansion, and the original enrolment of 182 students has increased to 950, and our campus now covers 18.4 hectares. Infrastructure, including rail, is under construction nearby to service the fast-growing Hills District population. While most of our students come from within a 15-kilometer radius, Hills Grammar still sits within an eminently beautiful and natural parcel of land where learning is central and distraction minimal. Students enjoy the same collegial ambiance that set it apart 34 years ago, most apparent in the easy conviviality between students and teachers. There are no bells to herald the change of classes. Native birds can be heard above the chatter of children, while the presence of bush-dwelling goannas and echidnas are almost taken for granted. These priceless experiences make life at Hills Grammar special. Pre-schoolers to HSC students occupy the same campus, creating a healthy family feels confirmed by a non-selective entry policy favoring siblings. Our school also mirrors the diverse nature of modern Australia. It is proudly inclusive, a reality emphasized by our curriculum, which strives to be outward-looking and relevant to a changing world. Our emphasis lies in providing a broad, liberal education, including the International Baccalaureate PYP Program in Early Childhood to Year 6 and a commitment to the rigorous offerings of the New South Wales curriculum up to the Higher School Certificate. Knowing that some students will change careers many times in their lives, we promote thinking skills, encourage curiosity, and instill a deep love of learning. Above others, these qualities are sustaining and will aid our graduates as they enter the world beyond our gates. Vision is to Extraordinary Education: Extraordinary Individuals. The mission is to Outstanding teaching within a unique learning environment: fostering each student’s potential for greatness. Graduate Aim is In partnership with our families; we enable our students to: Become confident, resilient, and responsible individuals Develop a deep understanding across a range of academic disciplines and strive for personal excellence as learners Think critically and creatively and embrace life-long learning Embody the humanitarian values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence Understand the importance of an international perspective and contribute positively to our local and the global community Develop an appreciation of a diverse and inclusive Australian democratic society Display a strong sense of environmental responsibility View full school
  3. Our unique school is focused on nurturing young people to become outstanding members of their community. We provide a high-quality education program firmly based on our Christian values. HCCS is comprised of an Early Learning Centre, a Reception to Year 6 Primary School, and a unique Year 7 Centre all in the village of Verdun, two minutes from Hahndorf, and a Secondary Campus at Oakbank, 4.7 kilometers away, for Year 8 to Year 12 students. Our Rivermont Year 7 Centre, ‘in the woods,’ is apart of our Primary Campus. Students believe this is one of the best years of their lives! As well as the Year 7 students, the property is used by all ELC and Primary students for Nature Play and Environmental Studies. HCCS has inspired and taught children for over 35 years and is served by a delightful team of Christian Educators who value children and seek to nurture young minds. The engaging learning climate promotes curiosity, discovery, independence, and smiles, with respectful relationships between adults and children immediately evident. Over 540 students from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) to Year 12 attend this co-educational school. In January 2013, HCCS commenced a Secondary School at Oakbank with a Year 8 class. Enrolling a new Year 8 class each year, HCCS Secondary has grown to 90 students in 2018. It now includes a Year 12 class, making HCCS the only Early Learning Centre to Year 12 co-educational, non-denomination Christian School in the Adelaide Hills. We are very excited to announce that in May 2018, negotiations began to relocate the entire Secondary School back to Verdun to create a unified ELC to Year 12 Campus. The desire of the Board would be for the relocation to be complete sometime in 2020, with the best-case scenario being for the start of the 2020 school year. We believe that the teachings of Jesus are the foundations upon which our attitudes and actions should rest. The following Statement of Belief was adopted as the School’s Foundational Creed in 1983: We believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God We believe that there is one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit We accept that Jesus Christ is central in our school and therefore that everything that is done, including the learning, at school or in the school’s name, should be done to honor Him We believe in the sovereignty of God in creation, providence, revelation, redemption, and final judgment We believe that all humanity was created in the image of God, but that man estranged himself from God and his neighbor by disobeying God’s Word and that reconciliation is only possible through the love of God and the sacrifice which Jesus made on our behalf We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit who enables us to live a Godly life We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ We believe that all Christians are united in the Body of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our mission is to help children learn and grow to achieve their potential through: Acknowledging that Jesus Christ and his teachings are central to the purposes of this school Assisting each student to discover and develop their strengths and gifts Developing a caring school community which respects diversity and values fellowship Assisting students in developing a personal understanding and application of the Christian faith Providing a foundation upon which students can develop discernment, wisdom, and leadership qualities Preparing students for on-going learning and fulfilling lives in a world of rapid change Fostering in students the development of positive relationships and interpersonal skills Valuing each student and their gifts and contribution. Our Purpose The School is established and will be run to educate children based on the Christian Faith, by the aims expressed in the Statement of Belief. Our Aims are: To operate on Christian principles, with a staff actively committed to the Christian faith, by the Statement of Belief and Aims as set out in the Constitution To develop the spiritual, psychological, social, academic, creative, and physical potential of each enrolled child To promote healthy learning with the appointment of high-quality teachers and support staff To foster a co-operative relationship between parents, staff, children, and school To provide a comprehensive curriculum which includes worship and has a balanced use of Christian themes in all relevant areas To accept the common elements of the Christian faith while accepting the diversity of belief and interpretation and avoiding any denominational doctrine or emphasis To be open, so far as its resources shall permit, to children of the community provided that their parents support the aims of the school To promote and facilitate beneficial relationships between child, family, staff, churches, and the wider community. 4. Harbert Hills Academy was established in 1952 as an independently owned and operated twelve-grade school built and maintained on the doctrines and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA). It is the goal and objective of Harbert Hills Academy to offer a Seventh-day Adventist Christian education to all of its students, with a balanced emphasis on the spiritual, mental, physical, and moral development of each student. Throughout this handbook, many quotations appear that were written by Ellen G. White, the pioneering proponent of Christian education for the SDA Church. Students, parents, and academy staff would do well to memorize and review these often, because they support the standards of this school, and help to maintain a sharp focus on our objectives. Our Academy emphasizes personal academic success for each student with a belief that education is most successful when based on the eternal principles of education found in the scriptures and writings of Ellen G. White. Based on solid academic preparation and a passion for service, our students will be trained to help others achieve their best. Our Academy’s reputation will be founded on following God’s plan for education, personalized to each student’s needs, facilitated by a committed staff who have dedicated themselves to understanding and implementing God’s plan for education. We will fulfill this through our Mission: We are committed to fully demonstrating God’s plan for education: focusing on character development, academic excellence, and applied skills, to enable self-reliance, and to know the joy of unselfish service. Our School will strive to accomplish the mission by committing to: Fully following God’s plan for education, challenging young people to pursue their quest for excellence – spiritually, physically, and academically, which will enable them to be of service to man and God. Use spiritual leadership, mission service, practical education, and Christ-centered learning to mold the characters of our students. Our Strategic Plan brings together our strengths to provide a Christ-centered preparatory education that applies relevance through integrated vocational programs. HHA’s strategic direction is guided by the basic beliefs and values inherent in the Mission and Vision of the Academy: Nurture – Providing a place to grow closer to Christ Service – Encouraging students to reach beyond themselves Restoration – Demonstrating God’s power to reproduce His image in humanity Discernment – Teaching students to be thinkers not just reflectors Usefulness – Providing opportunities for hands-on experience Teamwork – Working with parents, staff, and students to achieve maximum progress Balance – Strengthening the body, mind, and character in a harmonious way
  5. At Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, we believe that God created every student to be one of a kind. Throughout their years with us, we challenge and inspire students to explore, develop, and make full use of their gifts so that they can lead lives of significant impact and influence. The teachers and staff are incredible. The love, support, and encouragement my children received through the years have aided in the character and spirit they encompass. The education and guidance have encouraged my Haley to step out and learn so many new things. The opportunities she has for the next season of her life are incredible. God has allowed us to be a part of a pretty inspiring community, and we are excited for the future of all the CHCA kids, young adults, and those to come." Guided by caring Christian teachers, your Lower Elementary student will build foundational skills in literacy, problem-solving, creative expression, scientific exploration, and more - while discovering his or her God-given gifts. An experiential learning approach celebrates and encourages questions as students construct knowledge through research, collaboration, and hands-on application. As your student moves on to grades 4-6, our Upper Elementary is designed to intentionally bridge critical transitional years by creating an encouraging environment where students flourish. Here, they discover their strengths and build confidence and resilience. Your student will be fully prepared intellectually, socially, and spiritually to succeed at the next level. As Cincinnati's only six-year Christ-centered college prep high school experience, the Upper School grants students six years instead of four to flourish in their gifts, pursue their interests, and enter college fully prepared. Students are exposed to a unique and challenging curriculum housed within distinct centers of engagement and innovative, one-of-a-kind, hands-on curricular and extracurricular experiences. Grades 7 and 8 jumps start the Upper School experience. A student-centered culture fosters independence and confidence to help students find their footing, emerge from the crowd, and fully engage in their education. Grades 9-12 focus on significantly extending social, relational, spiritual, and intellectual engagement in a highly enriched environment. Students will launch into college with extraordinary experiences, intellectual acumen, and confidence, setting them on a unique path to success. Our dedicated Christian faculty members - all top professionals in their fields - guide students to step outside of what comes naturally and comfortably because only by stretching do we truly grow. Together, we explore life's most difficult questions, helping students build resilience as they come to own their learning and their faith. We endeavor to walk in others' shoes and push the limits of our understanding. And we become transformed in the process. Our outstanding academic curriculum, including our innovative Christian Studies program, celebrated fine arts program, inspiring service opportunities, "win twice" philosophy on the athletic field. Within all of our CHCA Distinctives, our students are given countless opportunities to develop confidence, curiosity, and resilience. Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy is a Christ-centered, multi-denominational, college preparatory academy that exists to prepare students intellectually and spiritually for success in higher education and beyond and impact and influence the world according to their unique gifts and talents. This will be accomplished by: Creating an environment that encourages students, faculty, staff, and families to develop and live out their relationship with Jesus Christ. Developing a passion for lifelong learning leads to thoughtful, effective service through the excellent, intentional curriculum and extracurricular offerings. Empowering outstanding Christian faculty and staff to fully use their passions and expertise to create engaged critical thinkers. Fostering an exceptional environment that develops students' gifts and talents in the arts, athletics, leadership, and additional extracurricular opportunities for God's purposes. Building an engaged school community encompasses faculty, staff, students, families, alumni, and donors, which reinforces the school's vision, mission, and core values. CHCA offers an outstanding education, unlike any within the city. Beginning at age two and continuing through graduation, your student will question, consider, discover, test, fail, and thrive, all while under the counsel of exceptional Christian teachers and countless hands-on opportunities. And as students engage and grow cognitively, spiritually, and socially, they are ultimately prepared to flourish both inside and outside the classroom walls. But don't just take our word for it; see what our students, alum, parents, and teachers have to say about their CHCA experience.
  6. Blue Hills College is a caring school community that spiritually and academically equips, challenges, and inspires students to make a difference. Our rural campus, situated on the edge of the Alstonville Plateau on the Lismore district, offers increased opportunities by providing relevant learning environments for students from Pre-Kindy to Year 12. Blue Hills College (BHC) adopts a holistic approach to education, which encompasses the development of each student's spiritual, intellectual, social, physical, and aesthetic dimensions. Our general objectives are designed to guide students towards developing their full potential, and in doing so, supporting them to achieve success in reaching their personal goals. The school started as a small school in a hall purchased from Alstonville, demolished, and re-erected behind the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Brewster Street, Lismore. Blue Hills College opened as Lismore Seventh-day Adventist School at the beginning of the 1950 school year. The first teacher was Mrs. Diedre Holmes, who worked as a sole-charge teacher for the multi-level classroom. In 1960 the school was moved to Uralba Street, and a second room was added in 1972. The school was renamed "Seventh-day Adventist Union School" in the 1970s when the churches at Ballina, Casino, and Kyogle joined with Lismore in administering the school. In 1978 a high school was added, and in March of that year, the school moved to its present site at Blue Hills Avenue, Goonellabah. An additional year level was added to the high school over the ensuing years until the Higher School Certificate credential was achieved. The school was renamed "Blue Hills Adventist School" in 1987, and "Blue Hills College" in 1997. At Bluehills College, we have a tremendous Pre-Kindy program. Research suggests that the first five years are especially significant in a child's overall development. Blue Hills College acknowledges this and recognizes that learning starts well before the first day of school. Our Pre-Kindy classes provide a curriculum-based program for four-year-olds. Our program is based on the NSW Board of Studies syllabus. Children are exposed to the Early Stage One outcomes that they will be expected to master in Kindergarten through play-based, hands-on and integrated activities. Our program is strongly influenced by the new national Early Years Learning Framework - 'Belonging, Being & Becoming'. The program includes a strong literacy and numeracy focus, Japanese lessons, and play-based learning experiences. The course has been specifically designed to meet children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development in a fun and engaging way. Rich learning experiences and meaningful relationships lay the foundation for each child's development. Qualified and experienced teachers and staff deliver the program. The interactive and responsive structure of BHC's Pre-Kindy program prepares children for school and life-long learning. Primary school is where the journey begins to take shape - the start of thirteen years of formalized education. Because learning begins the day a child is born, they already have a wealth of knowledge and understandings in place by the time they arrive at school. Our Primary education program at Blue Hills College (BHC) builds on this knowledge base. It helps students establish connections between what they know and experience and what they will discover in the classroom. The secondary school program is designed to enhance each child's academic, emotional, spiritual, social, and physical development and cultivate balanced students with integrity committed to serving their community. Our secondary school is registered with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to cater to students from Years 7-12. Blue Hills College adopts a holistic approach to education, which encompasses the development of each student's spiritual, intellectual, social, physical, and aesthetic dimensions. Our general objectives are designed to guide students towards developing their full potential, and in doing so, supporting them to achieve success in reaching their personal goals. View full school

  10. Harkaway Hills College is the latest school to open with the PARED Foundation's support, who have started four schools across NSW over the past 30 years. What makes Harkaway Hills exceptional is our unique personalized education system that assists parents as the primary educators of their children and supports each student to be the best person he or she can be. Our motto says a great deal about our ethos: Veritas et Virtus. "Truth and Virtue." Harkaway Hills has commenced with children in their first years of schooling in order that their parents and the school can begin to work on character development from the outset. They can begin their schooling to understand that their family's mentor is working closely with their parents to help them be the best person they can be. The intimate environment in the first years of Harkaway Hills' foundation can also give us an excellent opportunity to give each child the academic focus they deserve. We are working with tried and true methods to ensure that every child's crucial steps in early literacy are made. Harkaway Hills College is an independent school teaching the Catholic faith. In 2018 we offered coeducational Foundation, Year 1, 2, and 3 classes, and in each coming year, we will be opening a new year level through to Year 12. The College is a project of the Parents for Education (PARED) Victoria Foundation. It is founded on the principles that parents are the primary educators and that schools exist to give parents every support. This support is found in the quality of the academic curriculum, in the way that staff work with students and parents in a unique mentoring program, in the emphasis on character development and virtues in the curriculum, and in the concern that staff and peer example be entirely positive and supportive of parents. Home and school are united. There is ongoing support for parents through various programs designed to assist parents in being more effective. We place great emphasis on developing virtues seen as good habits, the building blocks of character. By developing, strengths of character such as sound judgment, self-control, courage, and respect for others, students can better use their freedom to make the right choices in life. Human and civic virtues are fostered. As with the other PARED schools, the education we offer is highly personalized. Selected from the school's teaching staff, each student receives a personal mentor, a constant support source with an example, advice, and friendship. The mentor meets regularly with the student during the term and with the child's parents at least once each term, reviewing progress, helping with goal setting, and coordinating the College's services on the parents' behalf. We are implementing the highly successful model operating in the Sydney PARED schools, which commenced in 1982. Boys and girls' schools operate nearby. Foundation to Year 2 classes are coeducational, and after that, boys and girls are placed in single-sex classes. We are developing a beautiful seven-hectare campus for Harkaway Hills College in semi-rural Narre Warren North, seven minutes from the Monash. We receive capital grants from the Commonwealth government to assist with permanent buildings. In 2018 we completed our first permanent classroom block and commenced stage 1 of our final chapel. A second permanent classroom block will commence in 2019. Religious education aims to give the students an in-depth knowledge of the Catholic faith as the basis for God's love and service to others. Students are encouraged to practice their faith with freedom and conviction. In the youngest classes, we are utilizing the SALT approach. The chaplain of the College, a priest of Opus Dei, Fr Tom Gibson, celebrates Holy Mass at the College each fortnight in 2018 and offers the Sacrament of Reconciliation weekly. Parents are most welcome. View full school
  11. Graduate Aim is In partnership with our families; we enable our students to: Become confident, resilient, and responsible individuals Develop a deep understanding across a range of academic disciplines and strive for personal excellence as learners Think critically and creatively and embrace life-long learning Embody the humanitarian values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence Understand the importance of an international perspective and contribute positively to our local and the global community Develop an appreciation of a diverse and inclusive Australian democratic society Display a strong sense of environmental responsibility
  14. Southern Hills was established in 1980 and is located in a unique bush setting next to Bungendore Reserve in the South Eastern corner of the Perth Metropolitan Area. The College boasts a positive and enriching learning environment and provides the stability your child needs to complete their Kindergarten to Year 12 education. As Christian educators, we believe children should be guided and nurtured to young adulthood in a way that recognizes their worth as individuals. This is behind our commitment to work alongside parents in the task of educating their children. It means our definition of success moves beyond academic excellence parameters and aims to ensure that each student recognizes they are a unique individual with intrinsic worth. At the same time, we are committed to an innovative curriculum that always seeks better education approaches in the 21st century while maintaining a foundation of strong literacy and numeracy skills that form the basis of all good education. The first thing you will notice when you come to Southern Hills is the physical environment surrounding our school. It is the quintessential Australian surroundings - magpies chirping, kangaroos over by the top fence, and a canopy of eucalyptus trees. It truly is an organic, natural environment for our students. The second thing that you will notice is our staff. Pastoral care is at the top of our list, and every student should feel comfortable and safe within our school as they pursue their academic successes. It reads so merely, but what this statement embodies is everything within the mental, physical, social and spiritual dimensions that children in our care encounter during their time at our College. Your child’s schooling begins at age three, and they graduate from our College at age 18. Students grow up in front of us, and we must see them grow properly and nurture them for life ahead of them. At Southern Hills, you will find staff that listens, students that want to contribute to the community around them, and teachers that want to shape and promote students of character and integrity. As a school built by parents on the foundations of Christian education, we believe in the power of saving grace and the Biblical virtue of salvation. Christian education should be excellent, and our staff works hard to achieve this every single day.
  15. Selecting an education program for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. In a world that is rapidly becoming more competitive, your child must be adequately prepared for his/her future. Our school has developed specific characteristics to accomplish this goal. One such feature is the structure of our learning centers. By combining ages and abilities, the more gifted students are challenged with an expanded curriculum. At the same time, the other students are motivated by contact with the more gifted. We also stress the importance of a low student/teacher ratio, which translates into more "one on one" interaction between staff members and students. We strive to instill in your child knowledge and practice of basic Biblical and moral principles and encourage students as individuals to develop personal relationships with our Lord. We are also convinced of the importance of parental involvement and recognize the benefits of the parent-teacher-student relationship being developed successfully. Whether you are looking to place your child into his/her first school setting or are dissatisfied with alternative school programs, we invite you to come and see for yourself what a difference time, dedication, and perseverance can make in the life of a child. We ensure that you will be impressed by a friendly, open school and guarantee that your visit will leave you with confidence that a child in our care is a child in good hands. Sherwood Hills Christian School (SHCS) aims to provide a solid Christian education in a nurturing environment, directed by professional, godly educators. Our staff serves as role models to facilitate academic, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual growth. We desire to educate each student in all areas of academic achievement and to fulfill the biblical admonition found in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Sherwood Hills Christian School assists parents in fulfilling their Biblical responsibilities for their children. The home, church, and school form a tripod of influence in the child's life. These three must be in harmony. Christian parents enroll their children to reinforce the teaching of the home and church. The salvation and discipleship of each child are critical objectives of the school. Sherwood Hills Christian school ministers to the whole child Spiritually: Recognising that God's Word is the foundation for all of life, SHCS seeks to lead children into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Daily Bible readings and emphasis on practical Christian living provide a robust spiritual framework. Academically: SHCS strives for academic excellence. Standardized achievement tests show that SHCS students score above the national average in all academic areas. Emotionally: Dedicated teachers who are interested in their students' needs help the child grow with a sense of security and self-worth. The stability provided by the spiritual aspect helps students maturely meet the challenges of learning and living. Socially: How students relate to each other and their parents and teachers emphasize SHCS. Christian ethics not only encourages personal spiritual growth but healthy social growth as well. Physically: SHCS understands the physical needs of the child. They work with the parent to help the child mature: to be healthy and strong. Our goals include the following to assist students in: Establishing a personal relationship with Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ Acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and express ideas through words, numbers, and other symbols Developing a sense of self-worth Developing a sense of personal responsibility in society Acquiring skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will lead to satisfaction and productivity in the world of work Developing resourcefulness, adaptability, creative learning, and living Developing physical fitness and good health Gaining satisfaction from participating with others in various forms of artistic expression Developing an understanding of the role of the individual within the family and the role of the family within the society Developing respect for the environment and a commitment to the wise use of resources Acquiring skills that contribute to self-reliance in solving practical problems in everyday life Developing esteem for the customs, cultures, and beliefs of a wide variety of societal groups Developing values related to personal, ethical, or religious beliefs and the common welfare of society Developing an appreciation for the application of the processes of learning.
  16. God, Creator of all things which exist outside of Himself, is personally interested in humankind. God’s interest in humankind extends to specific individual interest in each person, and all people will give an account to God. Humankind, created in the image of God, has fallen short of the mark. As fallen creatures, humans need redemption. God has made provision for humankind to be redeemed through the incarnation, death, and resurrection of Christ. As a God of justice, God will ultimately correct the imbalances and injustice in human life and all of creation. All people are equal in God’s sight, as His “offspring,” but those who come to Him in faith enter into a new relationship – they are born from a new source of life. Humankind has a responsibility under God as custodians of the earth.

  21. South Hills Academy is a private school in West Covina, California, that emphasizes excellence in the present and readiness for the future in students from preschool through Grade 12. At SHA, staff and students work together to help students achieve five key outcomes that will be important as they venture into adulthood. In all our work, recreation, and interaction with one another, we - the staff, parents, and students - strive to exhibit character that is consistent with Christ's teachings. This identity is at the heart of our day-to-day lives here at South Hills Academy. It is the basis of our family atmosphere. It is the foundation of our approach to helping students develop into healthy, successful adults by graduating from high school. Another fundamental aspect of successful people and our daily operations at South Hills Academy is effective communication. Teachers work to continually provide students with opportunities, models, and feedback to develop outstanding communication skills. Students learn to read, write, listen, and speak effectively in various situations by participating in stimulating projects and activities organized by the teacher, student-run activities, and informal interactions with fellow students and teachers. We believe that strong social engagement is vital for the prosperity of individuals and society. So we guide our students to develop the habits and skills of beneficial social engagement, allowing them to live more fulfilling lives as adults and contribute to the spread of Christian values and the continued improvement of our society. Through lessons in the classroom, modeling by our staff members, participation in field trips and projects, and experience working and playing with their schoolmates, and our students will learn to respect the rights and value of others, to understand and appreciate diversity, to build positive relationships, and to assume responsibility for making beneficial contributions to their communities. Critical thinking is a skill that is even more necessary in the age of information and technology. With all of the information that constantly bombards us, we need to know how to find the truth and separate it from untruth. SHA equips students with a strong foundation of truthful knowledge and skills to gather, process, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information using various strategies. By the time students graduate from high school, SHA wants students to have the confidence and ability to successfully navigate the sea of information to make sagacious decisions, solve problems, resolve conflicts, avoid falling prey to deception and falsehood, and continue to discover the truth. Recognizing that our world is becoming smaller and more globalized, SHA nurtures students into global citizens. These adults have a solid understanding and appreciation of the world's current situations and peoples and capable of interacting with people of different cultures beneficially collaborative and synergistic manner. Being global citizens also means upholding our responsibility to help take care of our world and to promote peace, mutual respect, and goodwill in all our actions and interactions. South Hills Academy and its staff are committed to creating an effective learning environment that encourages our students to reach their potential. We strive to open doors for every student while empowering them to grow and continue to discover opportunities for themselves as they leave our programs. By achieving the five outcomes described above, students will develop into highly successful and fulfilled individuals.
  22. Our unique blend of "Two great schools, one vibrant community" is a model envied throughout the country. We can help every student meet their potential as learners, innovators, and global citizens. In looking through this website, you will see examples of a transformative education happening in our classrooms, on the trails of Yosemite, at state athletic tournaments, and on the stage of the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro. Our Four Pillars - Sound Character, Creative Spirits, Disciplined Minds, and Healthy Bodies - are the foundation for all we do. Our most important aspect is the life-long impact the Husky experience has on our students and the exceptional teachers that deliver a student-centered education like no other. Under the guidance of the most dedicated, talented, and innovative faculty and staff anywhere, students spend their days engaged, inspired, and growing in their ability to be more responsible, ethical, and successful in college and beyond. As we enter the second year of The Ten Year Vision, you will continue to see improvements in our facilities and offerings that help make us "a learning and academic powerhouse among the very best in California." Rolling Hills Prep School prides itself on being a forward-looking, academically rigorous college-prep school with a soul. Our mission is to develop in our students' disciplined minds, sound character, healthy bodies, and creative spirits. We celebrate our diversity by creating individualized pathways for each student that addresses their passions, talents, and needs. As part of RHP's ongoing self-evaluation and improvement, a group of teachers, trustees, and parents has approved the learning expectations for students shown below, based on the Four Pillars. Every year each faculty member focuses on at least one of the four pillars, incorporating its philosophy into that year's teaching and evaluation. These principles are not just on paper. They inspire the high-quality teaching that is a hallmark of RHP. At RHP and Ren, diversity is defined as a culture that consistently explores, embraces, and celebrates individual differences and backgrounds outside the classroom and in our everyday lives. In an inclusive and diverse community, all members feel respected, safe, and accepted in expressing who they are. Our four pillars promote multicultural perspectives through a 21st-century curriculum that prepares students to work, lead, and live effectively in a diverse world. Diversity includes individual and group differences in ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, age, sexuality, religion, learning styles, and physical abilities. One of the greatest strengths of RHP is the diversity of our student body. Our vibrant community includes families from 25 different zip codes and, in a typical year, four or five different foreign countries. In a 21st century global society, it becomes ever more critical that we live, work, and study with a multiplicity of people who are not just like ourselves. This quality of life at RHP may be one of the most important aspects of preparation for success in college and beyond. As a forward-looking, academically rigorous college-prep school, RHP provides a carefully crafted curriculum that offers an array of traditional courses taught using proven and engaging techniques. Complementing the traditional curriculum is an innovative course designed to serve students who will graduate from college in the middle of a fast-changing century. Mandarin, computer coding, World History, horticulture, Human Service Organizations, internships, public speaking, and robotics are among our most innovative courses. All coursework emphasizes critical skills that will allow students to thrive after graduating from RHP. These skills are collectively referred to as "The Five Cs": critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, and character. Teachers continually push students to hone and refine these traits as they prepare for life in college and beyond. All aspects of the RHP experience make up the curriculum: math, science, art, music, drama, outdoor education, service-learning, band, chorus, history, English, field trips, International Day, World Dance Week, pep assemblies, PE, athletics, Grandparents and Friends Day, coffee house, publications, National Honor Society, clubs, pick-up basketball games, dances, coding, the list goes on. Everything that happens on and off-campus is a valuable part of an RHP student's learning experience and is designed to develop their disciplined mind, sound character, creative spirit, and a healthy body.

This academic program is conducted within the context of a Christian college community in which all members are encouraged to treat each other respectfully as persons made in the image of God. Faculty, Staff, and fellow students all provide needed mentorship to assist you in your journey toward becoming whom God wants you to be. They also come alongside other teams to present opportunities for spiritual growth and enrichment on campus.
  24. California State University, Dominguez Hills, was founded in 1960; however, the campus sits on land with a long and rich history. The university's 346 acres were once a section of the first private land grant in Southern California—the Rancho San Pedro. Juan José Dominguez (1736-1809), a Spanish soldier, received the original grant of 75,000 acres in 1784 from King Carlos III of Spain. While much of the acreage has been sold and developed, portions remain in possession of Dominguez descendants. The site chosen for the university was known as the Dominguez Hills, named after the family. CSU Dominguez Hills offers a wide selection of great degrees that reflect today's in-demand fields. Our degree programs offer a well-rounded curriculum that combines rigorous academics with a practical education. Being a valued member of the community is one of the university's highest priorities. We work to develop and enhance CSU Dominguez Hills' relations with a wide range of constituent groups – residents, businesses, civic organizations, governmental agencies, and local legislators – promoting mutual understanding, coordinating the campus's response to local public policy issues, and helping members of the community access the university's many resources. To successfully meet our mission and effectively serve our students and our community, CSU Dominguez Hills must find additional mechanisms to provide the high-quality physical learning environment necessary to educate our students and ensure CSUDH graduates have the knowledge and skills necessary to compete and succeed in their chosen fields. Academic buildings are critical to providing the foundational programs identified in the 1963 statewide master plan for higher education, including the sciences, business administration, education, and liberal arts. However, at CSU Dominguez Hills, such buildings are more than 40 years old. Since 2009, CSU Dominguez Hills has received no new state-funded buildings. Also, none of the temporary buildings from the 1960s have been replaced, and over the last 25 years, only two new state-funded buildings, Welch Hall and the Library addition, have been added to the campus. Foundational programs essential to high-quality academic instruction primarily reside in buildings constructed between 1963 and 1977 or in temporary buildings purchased by the campus. In order to best position the university to leverage our unique land assets and generate additional revenue that can assist in financing and renovating academic buildings and support other academic instructional needs, the university recently partnered with AEG (operator of sports and entertainment venues around the world, including the StubHub Center on land leased from the university) and the City of Carson to engage the Urban Land Institute (ULI). ULI is comprised of accomplished developers, real estate specialists, economic development consultants, architects, academics, and other land-use professionals to assess and provide expert, independent, timely, and unbiased input on university land development plans and opportunities via an approach referred to as a Technical Advisory Panel (TAP). Joining the CSUDH Greek community will allow you to meet many outstanding student leaders and become involved on campus and throughout the Los Angeles and South Bay communities. Membership in a fraternity or sorority helps foster friendships and creates many valuable networks to help you succeed in college. Greeks pride themselves on participating in experiences that highlight outstanding academics, culture, and social development, leadership, and service for and with others. The Greek community is one of the largest student-run organizations on campus. We invite you to experience one of our 17 organizations as you begin to explore options for involvement and leadership on campus. Each fraternity and sorority brings something unique to Greek Life. Whether it is philanthropy activities, campus leadership, or social programs, there are always opportunities for involvement.
