The students, faculty, and staff at Boise State University are known for their grit and ambition. While we may be most famous for our iconic Blue Turf, we have built a metropolitan doctoral research university in the Northwest, with our faculty and student researchers working to answer some of the most intriguing questions facing us today.

Recently we have significantly revamped our undergraduate experience to make students more career-ready.

Boise is a hub for entrepreneurs and innovators. With low unemployment and one of the highest growth rates, Boise State graduates find many internships and practical training opportunities during their studies. Boise State has been recognized as one of the top three universities in the country for Outdoor Adventure and flies fishing — you can hook a trout in the shadow of Bronco Stadium. A walk or ride down the Greenbelt takes you past swimming holes, a whitewater park for kayakers and surfers, and the ballpark where future Colorado Rockies take their first professional swings as BOISE HAWKS. If you head the other direction, you will see hundreds of floaters and tubers on hot summer days, cyclists, stand-up paddle-boarders, and rock climbers who take to the cliffs above the Boise River.
Into food? Boise hosts two FARMERS’ MARKETS Downtown, and a growing menu of local and national restaurant options from food trucks and steak houses to unique international cuisine. We are supportive of local business and commerce while growing a healthy mix of economic development and industry.
Boise is the home of the four-day TREE FORT MUSIC FEST and groups like the IDAHO DANCE THEATRE, one of the local arts groups that join acclaimed international traveling performers using the MORRISON CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, right here on our campus. Families enjoy Boise’s schools, low costs, and low crime rates — and many find comfortable homes among our diverse religious communities. Moreover, our many cultures love to share: from the Jewish Deli Days to the Greek and Russian food festivals to the massive gathering of Basques from around the world held every five years in Boise. The city loves to come together for special events.
Boise’s local companies make microchips and memory sensors, solar-powered streetlights, and wireless hotspots. They make some of the world’s most renowned trout fly reels and most reliable and durable whitewater rafts. We are the home of the Pacific Northwest’s largest aircraft services company and one of the country’s leading manufacturers of diesel-electric light and massive rail engines.
Moreover, many of these companies are powered by Boise State innovations and employees. More than 600 Bronco alumni work at MICRON TECHNOLOGY, for example. Boise State graduates make up the entire international foods division at the J.R. SIMPLOT CO. Our computer science students are in such demand that by the time they finish their third year, about 90 percent of them have locked down local internships – many with job offers to wait for them when they graduate. That entire department is moving into the heart of downtown (which is just a few blocks away from campus) because tech and civic leaders find the program and its students such a valuable part of this industry.
Boise State alumni, students, faculty, and staff are driving forces behind Boise’s visual arts scene, the famous outdoor IDAHO SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, and the edgy BOISE CONTEMPORARY THEATRE. Moreover, the relationship between the arts community and campus is poised to take another leap soon with creating a new Fine Arts Building along Boise State’s main entrance, just across the bridge from the BOISE ART MUSEUM and the rest of the city’s cultural district.
