About Me

  1. First founded in 1995 by a small group of French and American families, the Lycee began as an international school of fewer than 150 students. Twenty years later, our community has grown dramatically, attracting families from around the world who share the value of an academically challenging and culturally diverse education. Families find a second home at the Lycee because of our commitment to world-class education and fluency in respect, responsibility, and the joy of learning. Today, the Lycee is Chicago’s premier international education community, consisting of nearly 500 families and more than 770 students. Our program is based on the French National Curriculum combined with key American building blocks. It offers students the best of both worlds. From the extensive French curriculum—taught in French—students become highly proficient critical thinkers by acquiring the rigorous writing skills and broad academic knowledge necessary for the French Baccalaureate. From our strong American program—taught in English—students receive the academic preparation that is sought by American colleges and universities. From multicultural exposure, students gain valuable social and communication skills and become exceptionally open-minded. Taking into account the richness, diversity, and challenges of this dual-language system, students educated at the Lycee are well-prepared to meet—and often exceed—the demands of the best universities in France, Europe, and North America. The Lycee Francais de Chicago provides its students with a rigorous bilingual education in a dynamic and welcoming multicultural community. The Lycee draws on the best of the French, American, and international educational systems preparing students to thrive at top universities throughout the world. French at its core, the Lycée’s education transforms students into global ambassadors, inspiring them to lead lives of purpose, responsibility, and respect. Cultural diversity and foreign language immersion are cornerstones of Lycee education. Children from all walks of life and corners of the world come together to explore learning through language. Cognitive skills are strengthened, capacity for creativity expands, and abilities to adapt and analyze are awakened as children apply their minds through multiple linguistic lenses. Doors instantly open to a world of learning and wonder. Through our community and classrooms, children cross international borders without ever leaving Chicago. Teachers integrate technology across all subject areas in all grades. Technology plays a large part in our pedagogy and is instrumental in the classroom. Teachers use technology to illuminate the curriculum, differentiate lessons for all learners, and instill 21st-century skills. Students use technology for critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. The Lycee education offers students a global perspective through language. As early as age 3, children are immersed in authentic dual-language learning, expanding to a third in grade 4 and even fourth or fifth language starting in high school. Our program provides students with a passport to a competitive future by putting them on track to becoming multilingual before applying to college or university. Part of our mission is to provide students with personalized services and extracurricular activities that will enable them to become successful learners and well-rounded global citizens. To achieve this mission, we provide academic and counseling services for students in need of extra help. In addition, we provide an extensive schedule of tailored after-school activities, allowing students to pursue their interests outside of class, while parents benefit from the flexible schedule and quality childcare.
  2. Latin is one of the oldest independent schools in the city of Chicago. Latin School was formed in 1888 when a group of parents in Chicago enlisted Mabel Slade Vickery, a teacher from the East Coast, to take charge of a new, parent-owned school. The first class consisted of 10 boys, approximately ten years old. The school was designed to provide students with a rigorous college-preparatory education in the classical tradition, with a curriculum heavily influenced by Classical studies and the Greek and Latin languages' study, hence the name "Latin School. We often hear from students that Latin feels like home to them, and for years our alumni have reported the same. Fostering this sense of community is something our school has always valued. Since 1888, Latin students have been learning and growing in an environment where they feel comfortable, safe, and supported. This sense of belonging is a result of not only what we do at Latin, but how we do it. Our individualized approach to teaching and learning is evident at every level and in every area of school life. Truly knowing students for who they are and how they learn best allows teachers to create connections with kids that last long after graduation. And Latin's unique learning experiences allow students to develop critical skills that will serve them for a lifetime. For parents, the benefit is that you are not alone in this immensely rewarding but sometimes scary process of raising children. Teachers here are aware of just how talented and exciting your children can be, and they are just as interested as you are in developing each aspect of their personalities. It is what Latin does best. The Latin School of Chicago provides its students with a rigorous and innovative educational program in a community that embraces the diversity of people, cultures, and ideas. Latin inspires its students to pursue their passions and lead lives of purpose and excellence. Latin School achieves its mission by: Encouraging excellence in all academic and personal pursuits Creating an educational environment in which the pursuit of academic excellence and intellectual growth is complemented by a concern for the moral, physical, psychological, and aesthetic development of each student Developing and retaining excellent faculty and staff Recognizing the fundamental importance of honesty, civility, public service, and respect for others and the environment Cultivating resilience, independence, leadership, and moral courage Sustaining a diverse, inclusive, and multicultural community that affirms and values each individual Attracting dedicated families committed to the mission of the school Promoting programs in all divisions that integrate our students with the community Developing financial and physical resources to support the school's needs. Latin School intentionally seeks to admit students and families of various identities and backgrounds, working to integrate them into the school's vibrant culture. Our rigorous, inclusive core curriculum and extra-curricular programs prepare the school's diverse students for a highly competitive, global education. Students also regularly participate in community service, which nurtures leadership and character growth. Latin creates a highly talented, heterogeneous team of faculty, administrators, and staff by removing barriers to recruiting, retaining, and promoting these individuals. Latin also is dedicated to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of school life. Currently, across all three divisions, 30 percent of Latin employees and 30 percent of students self-identify as people of color. Latin recognizes its social responsibility as a premier educational institution in the city of Chicago. Desiring a mutually supportive relationship with the broader community, the school endeavors to be a good neighbor and partner with people outside the school to fulfill its mission. Latin School of Chicago is resolved to strengthen its identity as an institution that shapes leaders prepared for a diverse world. A climate of inclusion, empowerment, equity, and justice are the bedrock of the school's academic and service endeavors in the 21st century and beyond. Selecting the best possible school is a necessary process, and the Office of Enrollment Management is committed to making every family's experience as personal, informative, and stress-free as possible. Our goal is to provide you with everything you need to determine whether Latin is the right school for your family. Our comprehensive admissions process allows us to get to know your student and ensure that they can feel successful and happy at Latin.

  7. Welcome to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), one of the most historically significant accredited independent schools of art and design in the nation located in one of the greatest American cities. SAIC is distinct in the way that it provides graduate, post-baccalaureate, and undergraduate students an interdisciplinary curriculum and the necessary freedom to develop as artists, designers, and scholars. Simultaneously, we strive for a level of rigor, investigation, and cultural relevance that makes SAIC truly special. Our students translate the most complex ideas into tangible forms—paintings, sculptures, films, performances, books, installations, inventions, buildings, community projects, and, more often than not, a combination of the above. Few schools in the United States provide such a broad range of possibilities. Our engaged student body and award-winning faculty of artists, scholars, and leading practitioners work nearby, sharing exceptional resources and establishing a forum for a vigorous exchange of ideas. The heralded new Modern Wing of the Art Institute provides an incredible resource for inspiration and study. Other unique SAIC resources include our cutting-edge facilities, Gene Siskel Film Center, Visiting Artists Program, and Sullivan Galleries that exhibit work to a broad audience. Of course, downtown Chicago gives our students access to one of the world's most creatively vibrant and architecturally rich cities. We encourage engagement in its full spectrum of cultural amenities. However, we fully recognize that we live in a globalized society—also reflected in our student body's demographic makeup—and thus provide a wealth of invaluable international study opportunities across the globe. Foremost, SAIC is about students. We are dedicated to providing complete liberal art and the arts and design education that will serve our alumni throughout their multifaceted careers. We are delighted by your interest and sincerely hope that you will add your voice to the SAIC dialogue at such a critical point in the history of Chicago, the nation, and the world. Academic Advising provides you an ongoing partnership, support, and advocacy as you navigate SAIC's interdisciplinary curriculum and map out your unique degree plan. Your academic advisor will be a vital resource for you from the summer before your first semester through graduation. Advisors for first-year students are integrated into Research Studio, a required first-year course, and must meet with students every term during the first two years. Transfer students are required to meet with their faculty advisors for their first two terms. At the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), we will not define your career. However, we will provide you with the interdisciplinary education and resources you need to define it for yourself. Our graduates move on to do great things. More than 17,000 alumni worldwide impact their communities through their work, scholarship, teaching, and service. As an undergraduate student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, you will be immersed in a community of artists, designers, scholars, and writers who share the belief that meaning and making are inseparable. Through the process of critique, you will be challenged by our award-winning faculty and your peers to be bold, experiment, and expand your vision. Your studio courses will be rounded out with a full offering of art history, humanities, language, writing, science, and social science in addition to off-campus study and internship opportunities. You will have access to facilities with cutting-edge digital technologies as well as time-honored analog equipment. As a visual scholar, you will learn from the past to help define the future. At the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, we recognize that today's artists are not only makers of images, objects, and events, but designers of cities, public spaces, scholars of visual languages, and producers of global culture. Our students are inventors, explorers, and thinkers. As a student, you will develop a deep understanding of historical contexts while imagining new frameworks for ideas and forms. Above all, you will be encouraged to cross disciplines and explore concepts unbound to any medium or academic department. Life on the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) campus is unlike life on any other campus. It is part of the Art Institute of Chicago, a world-renowned encyclopedic museum of art whose collection spans 5,000 years of human history and represents cultures worldwide. And it is part of Chicago itself, an international city with distinctive architecture, innovative public art, world-class galleries, cutting-edge music and theater, extensive public transportation, and vibrant communities of working artists, designers, writers, and thinkers. Suppose you take those two elements and combine them with an education that defies conventions, utterly unique student experience is born. You can live on campus in large, airy downtown lofts with panoramic views, or you can radiate outward into Chicago's eclectic patchwork of neighborhoods. Either way, you will have the opportunity to connect with students, faculty, and staff through campus-wide events and diverse student groups and organizations, including our semi-annual student art sales, all-school barbecues, annual Halloween Ball, annual Fashion Show, jam-packed Student Union Galleries, and Sullivan Galleries exhibition openings, or lectures with world-renowned artists and scholars.

  9. Loyola University Chicago, a private university founded in 1870 as St. Ignatius College, is one of the nation's largest Jesuit, Catholic Universities and the only one located in Chicago. Loyola University Chicago comprises four campuses: Lake Shore (LSC), Water Tower (WTC), Health Sciences (HSC), and the John Felice Rome Center in Italy, and it is home to 13 schools, colleges, and institutes: Quinlan School of Business, Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, Stritch School of Medicine, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Communication, School of Continuing and Professional Studies, School of Education, School of Law, School of Social Work, Graduate School, Institute of Pastoral Studies, Institute of Environmental Sustainability, and Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago. Loyola also features course locations in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Vernon Hills, Illinois, and a Retreat and Ecology Campus in Woodstock, Illinois. Recognizing Loyola's excellence in education, U.S. News and World Report has ranked Loyola consistently among the top "national universities" in its annual publications. Loyola is among a select group of universities recognized for community service and engagement by prestigious national organizations like the Carnegie Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Our faculty, staff, and students come from all faiths and backgrounds, but together, we strive toward the same goal, being men and women for and with others. But what makes a Jesuit university different? Our students receive an education that stresses the importance of knowledge, curiosity, global perspectives, and cura personalis, which translates to "care for the whole person." Our Loyola community is not afraid to get its hands dirty cleaning up neighborhood parks and gardens—or use its expertise to mentor girls interested in STEM programs. They research local food deserts and volunteer with our student-run farmers market to make healthy food more accessible. Here, we don't talk about making the world a better place—we get to work. Loyola University Chicago is deeply rooted in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition of social responsibility through critical thinking and informed actions. We encourage students to become engaged citizens who take seriously how they express themselves and how they choose to be in the world. We encourage students to find their voice and use it for a greater common good—to be people for and with others. Loyola assures applicants that Loyola University Chicago will not penalize them nor rescind any admission decision for applicants who choose to protest peacefully against gun violence, even if that action is contrary to their high school's disciplinary policy. This distinctive and transformative approach to education takes place daily inside and outside of our classrooms. A Loyola education encompasses experiential learning and the development of each student to his or her fullest potential. We are guided by the Jesuit ethos of cura personalis, "care of the whole person," and an orientation toward service in which students direct their education toward meeting the needs of individuals and society in a quest for empathy, insight, and social justice. At Loyola, we provide our students with opportunities for rigorous educational experiences that help them form their commitment to live extraordinary lives of consequence through leadership and service in their professions, in their communities, and around the world. The commitment to a high-quality education that balances theory and practice, research and engagement, is at the heart of our work in the Division of Academic Affairs. The division is responsible for excellence in our academic programs and student success. The division oversees the implementation of the university's strategic plan. The Division of Academic Affairs includes eleven Colleges and Schools, Institutes and Centers, University Libraries, Global Initiatives, Enrollment Management, Student Academic Services, University Core Curriculum, and Honors Program. Research is an essential element of the work of our faculty and our students at all levels. As a Carnegie (High) Research University, we are the largest Catholic research university in the United States. We are deeply committed to advancing science and research across disciplines to address our times' most challenging questions. Loyola has also been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for service-learning and community engagement. At Loyola University Chicago, exceptional faculty, students, and staff work every day to sustain and enhance the quality of our education and the university's impact on higher education and the city, country, and world. It is the Office of the Provost's mission to drive quality and innovation and assure that Loyola continues to meet the challenges of the 21st century. We firmly believe that part of Loyola's promise to prepare people to lead extraordinary lives requires us to be a home for all cultures and people. We embrace all races, sexes, gender identities, gender expressions, religions, ethnic backgrounds, socio-economic classes, sexual orientations, abilities, and residency statuses. We foster the success and community building of historically underrepresented student populations through mentorship, multicultural education, academic support, and celebration of our unique shared experiences. The Department of Student Diversity & Multicultural Affairs strives to be the preeminent Ignatian social justice education model and multicultural student success. Through facilitating intentional reflection of the intersections of identities and critical social analysis of systems of privilege and oppression, SDMA seeks to enhance the experience of all members of the Loyola community by cultivating culturally competent agents of social change. Being part of the University of Chicago means that the importance of intellectual life—thought and exploration—infuses everything we do across all aspects of our curriculum. Families who choose Lab care sincerely about curiosity, inquiry, and creativity. All are attracted to a diverse community and an environment that creates and nurtures the habits of expansive thinking and complex problem-solving. Virtually all Lab alumni go on to graduate from a four-year college. They gain acceptance to outstanding colleges around Chicago and the country: from the University of Chicago, University of Illinois–Urbana Champaign, Northwestern, and DePaul, to Harvard, Emory, University of Southern California, and many more. And Lab grads find each other wherever they go—their Lab relationships last for years after graduation, turning into unexpected opportunities over and over as they pursue any number of different fields: medicine, law, education, banking, finance, theater, and the creative arts. Because the Laboratory Schools are part of the world-renowned University of Chicago, the importance of intellectual life—thought and exploration—infuses everything we do across all aspects of our curriculum. Lab's history is firmly rooted in experiential learning. This approach enriches our students' educational experience and contributes to Lab's reputation as one of the finest pre-collegiate schools in the world. All of this starts each morning when our teachers and staff arrive at school committed to giving our children the best possible education. And it ends when our graduates head out into the world with confidence and the knowledge that they are part of an amazing and unique community. To choose to be part of the Laboratory Schools is to embrace deeply held and widely shared values: We believe in the power of human intellect and the importance of education. We believe that learning is an ongoing process that knows no boundaries, no endpoint. We believe that our differences strengthen our community. We believe that those around us should inspire, support, and—yes—challenge us to work to our fullest potential. Ours is a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity and creativity, celebrates new ideas, and engages people who possess various experiences and backgrounds. Students learn to think independently and critically, explore challenging ideas, and celebrate our school community's diversity. All around Lab is evidence of a life of learning—students and families who are fully engaged, faculty who would not want to teach anywhere else, and the unparalleled University of Chicago setting that enriches our community and resources in incomparable ways. The Laboratory Schools are home to the youngest members of the University of Chicago's academic community. We ignite and nurture an enduring spirit of scholarship, curiosity, creativity, and confidence. We value learning experientially, exhibiting kindness, and honoring diversity. Diversity at the Laboratory Schools includes the thoughts and worldviews, identities and affiliations, aptitudes and aspirations, races and cultures, genders and sexualities, and experiences and economics of our students, families, faculty, administrators, and staff. Through their engagement with diversity, students will gain the preparation they need to live and lead in a complex world, with an inherent sense of inclusiveness and justice. In our vision, we strive to appreciate diversity in education fully and define the crucial and continuous commitments we must make as a community to foster diversity at the Laboratory Schools. 14. The Chicago Academy for the Arts is a nationally recognized independent high school for the performing and visual arts. The Academy offers students the opportunity to engage in a unique co-curricular program: rigorous, college-preparatory academic classes and professional-level arts training in the context of distinctive school culture. The Academy's school day consists of six 45-minute academic periods followed by a three-plus hour immersion in a student's chosen arts department: Dance, Media Arts (filmmaking, animation, creative writing), Music, Musical Theatre, Theatre, and Visual Arts. At The Chicago Academy for the Arts, young artists master the skills necessary for academic success, critical thought, and creative expression. Students come to The Academy from various backgrounds: some have had years of training, others are exploring a newly discovered passion. Some come from the city of Chicago; others commute from the suburbs or beyond. Some spend all four high school years at The Academy others join the community later on in their academic careers. No matter their background, these students are united by a profound passion for the arts. While The Academy is famous for its arts programs, our academic coursework is just as powerful. Students engage deeply in courses designed to develop critical thinking skills across various subjects, including Women's Literature, AP Computer Science, Global Affairs, Business, and the Arts, World Religions, AP Statistics, Philosophy, and many more. Realizing that their Academy education opens a variety of doors for them beyond high school, nearly 1/3 of Academy alums pursue non-arts paths after graduation, from business to physics to computer science and everything in between. Alums include entrepreneurs, attorneys, Ph.D.'s, physicists, and other professionals in a wide variety of careers. We often say that there is nothing more important here than in our community. Academy students and faculty alike are characterized by their passion, a sense of purpose, and pursuit of excellence, and thus everyone at The Academy is deeply invested in being here. (In fact, for decades, the most common word used to describe The Academy is "home.") It is a special privilege to be surrounded, every day, by peers and mentors who have decided to be a part of this place. Our students are never at The Academy, they are The Academy, and that identity eliminates so much of what is typically negative about the high school experience. Curiosity, discipline, focus, determination: these qualities are essential to artists and are honed not only in the studio but also in the classroom. At The Academy, you will find AP and Honors courses, dedicated teachers, and high academic standards engaging our students' distinctly creative minds. The Academy's academic program is built upon core studies in Humanities (English, Social Studies, and World Languages), Mathematics, and Science. For nearly four decades, students at The Chicago Academy for the Arts have combined their capacity for imagination with a sense of purpose to create a stunning body of meaningful work and a community where young people thrive. Our unique educational model is transformational yet straightforward. The Academy's rigorous academic program and immersive, pre-professional arts training — in the context of a world-class educational culture — prepare our students for an incredible variety of paths beyond high school. Your academic advisor will be a vital resource for you from the summer before your first semester through graduation. Transfer students are required to meet with their faculty advisors for their first two terms. At the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), we will not define your career. However, we will provide you with the interdisciplinary education and resources you need to define it for yourself. Our graduates move on to do great things.

  19. The University of Chicago is an urban research university that has driven new ways of thinking since 1890. Our commitment to free and open inquiry draws inspired scholars to our global campuses, where ideas are born that challenge and change the world. We empower individuals to challenge conventional thinking in pursuit of original ideas. Students in the College develop critical, analytic, and writing skills in our rigorous, interdisciplinary core curriculum. Through graduate programs, students test their ideas with UChicago scholars and become the next generation of leaders in academia, industry, nonprofits, and government. UChicago's research has led to such breakthroughs as discovering the link between cancer and genetics, establishing revolutionary theories of economics, and developing tools to produce reliably excellent urban schooling. We generate new insights for the benefit of present and future generations with our national and affiliated laboratories: Argonne National Laboratory, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The University of Chicago is enriched by the city we call home. In partnership with our neighbors, we invest in Chicago's mid-South Side across such areas as health, education, economic growth, and the arts. Together with our medical center, we are the largest private employer on the South Side. In all we do, we are driven to dig deeper, push further, and ask more critical questions—and to leverage our knowledge to enrich all human life. Our diverse and creative students and alumni drive innovation, lead international conversations, and make masterpieces. Alumni and faculty, lecturers, and postdocs become Nobel laureates, CEOs, university presidents, attorneys general, literary giants, and astronauts. The University of Chicago welcomes students, faculty, other academic personnel, staff, and visitors with disabilities and works collaboratively to provide accommodations appropriate to need and circumstance. Since its inception in 1890, UChicago has remained committed to educating extraordinary people regardless of race, gender, religion, or financial ability. More than $100 million in financial assistance and scholarships are awarded annually, and we are one of the few highly selective institutions to award both need-based and merit-based aid. Approximately 6,306 students are enrolled in the College, renowned for its Core curriculum and small, discussion-style classes. In more than 100 programs across our graduate divisions and professional schools, students discover firsthand the power of ideas to make a difference in the world. UChicago offers a rich array of summer learning opportunities for current UChicago students, visiting college students, accomplished high school students, teachers, and many others. One of the first U.S. universities with continuing education, UChicago offers non-degree programs spanning business, public policy, and a wide range of professional and liberal arts. In many ways, online learning is an extension of the University of Chicago's longstanding commitment to free and open inquiry. With a commitment to free and open inquiry, our scholars take an interdisciplinary approach to research that spans arts to engineering, medicine to education. Their work transforms the way we understand the world, advance study fields, and often create new ones. Generating new knowledge for the benefit of present and future generations, UChicago research has impacted the globe, leading to such breakthroughs as discovering the link between cancer and genetics, establishing revolutionary theories of economics, and developing tools to produce reliably excellent urban schooling. Campus and Student Life is dedicated to helping students, staff, and faculty experience university life at its fullest. We have a profound commitment to our community's diversity and are focused on creating an environment where you can thrive. Through our wide array of programs and services, we provide opportunities and experiences that build community, help you grow personally and professionally, and create a place that you can call home now and throughout your life. On July 9, 1890, the University's founders defined what they believed would build an enduring legacy: a commitment to rigorous academics for people of all backgrounds, including "opportunities for all departments of higher education to persons of both sexes on equal terms." In 2006, current president Robert J. Zimmer said in his inaugural address, "If we take ourselves back to the University in its early years . . . many of us connected to the University feel that we might just as easily have been there "Why is this? The University of Chicago, from its very inception, has been driven by a singular focus on inquiry. Everything about the University of Chicago that we recognize as distinctive flows from this commitment." Since 1890, the University of Chicago's singular focus on inquiry has made it a model for modern institutions of higher education and research. Across numerous departments and disciplines and over 150 institutes and centers, the UChicago community advances ideas and innovations that enrich human life. The University's inquiry culture thrives on intellectual rigor, diverse perspectives, extensive civic and research partnerships, and ever-broadening global reach. UChicago breakthroughs transform the way we live and the way we think. Members of our community have pioneered sociology scholarship, introduced hormonal cancer treatment, proposed the existence of black holes, discovered new dinosaur species, changed the face of economics, improved graduation rates in American cities, and the list goes on. Tracing such breakthroughs from decade to decade, the timeline above provides a sampling of how UChicago scholars have made a lasting impact on our world.

  21. View full school

More than $100 million in financial assistance and scholarships are awarded annually, and we are one of the few highly selective institutions to award both need-based and merit-based aid. Approximately 6,306 students are enrolled in the College, renowned for its Core curriculum and small, discussion-style classes. View full university
