Established in 1992, California School is fully registered with the Education Bureau of Hong Kong to offer a full-time regular education to children. California School offers an international curriculum similar to the one used at KGV and other ESF schools. We offer the world-renowned IGCSE (for F4/F5), GCE A-Level (F7). All these are accredited by the U.K. and H.K. governments. Students of other schools normally transfer to California School in F.4. because they want to earn IGCSE/GCE qualifications instead of an HKCEE. The new institute, Southern California Bible School, moved from Los Angeles to Pasadena in 1927. In 1939 it was chartered by the State of California as a college eligible to grant degrees. It became Southern California Bible College-the first four-year institution of the Assemblies of God. In many ways, Cal State Northridge began like many other Valley institutions: Trees were cleared, and foundations poured at sites that were once orange, lemon, or avocado groves. Hand-lettered signs gave directions to temporary buildings connected by plank pathways. However, before that humble start, there was a great deal of political maneuvering to ensure that a four-year college would even be located in the Valley. In 1952, state officials had initially been identified Baldwin Hills as the site of a satellite campus for Los Angeles State College (now Cal State Los Angeles). In reaction to the decision, Valley leaders organized to overturn the legislation successfully and to ensure later that a four-year college would be situated in the San Fernando Valley. On December 21, 1954, advocates for a Valley four-year college hosted 23 legislators for dinner at the Brown Derby on Wilshire Boulevard. Armed with demographic projections, they pitched the Valley as the only logical place for the next state college. The pitch worked. Cal State Monterey Bay provides over 7,500 students an extraordinary opportunity to learn on a residential campus just one mile from the beautiful Monterey Bay shores. Freimuth Memorial Fund and Continuing and Global Education share the commitment to provide financial support to undergraduate students traveling abroad. California State University, Dominguez Hills, was founded in 1960; however, the campus sits on land with a long and rich history. The university's 346 acres were once a section of the first private land grant in Southern California—the Rancho San Pedro. Juan José Dominguez (1736-1809), a Spanish soldier, received the original grant of 75,000 acres in 1784 from King Carlos III of Spain. While much of the acreage has been sold and developed, portions remain in possession of Dominguez descendants. Also, none of the temporary buildings from the 1960s have been replaced, and over the last 25 years, only two new state-funded buildings, Welch Hall and the Library addition, have been added to the campus. Foundational programs essential to high-quality academic instruction primarily reside in buildings constructed between 1963 and 1977 or in temporary buildings purchased by the campus. In order to best position the university to leverage our unique land assets and generate additional revenue that can assist in financing and renovating academic buildings and support other academic instructional needs, the university recently partnered with AEG (operator of sports and entertainment venues around the world, including the StubHub Center on land leased from the university) and the City of Carson to engage the Urban Land Institute (ULI). ULI is comprised of accomplished developers, real estate specialists, economic development consultants, architects, academics, and other land-use professionals to assess and provide expert, independent, timely, and unbiased input on university land development plans and opportunities via an approach referred to as a Technical Advisory Panel (TAP).
