Through explicit instruction, we consciously reflect with students on the abundance of God's unconditional love as expressed in the concept of His pierced heart and seek ways to translate that love into specific action. Guided by this belief, we actively seek ways to discover, understand, and compassionately respond to the many social, cultural, and economic circumstances that wound our students. Respect for the inherent dignity of each individual is an essential, constitutive value for us. We seek to embody in our personal lives and all interactions with young people the firm confidence in God's loving, providential care for all, regardless of problems, difficulties, and challenges. We demonstrate our willingness to see the potential in all students, and we seek opportunities to praise and affirm the goodness of each person and encourage the positive choices that he makes. We demonstrate our commitment to surround students with every possible guidance to help them form good habits through frequent encouragement, availability to assist outside of class, and a willingness to offer students multiple opportunities to improve. Every parent and good educator knows that demonstrating love to young people always involves setting limits, communicating clear and reasonable expectations, and providing accountability to ensure that they meet these expectations. It is perhaps the most unloving thing to indulge a child's every whim and desire. Doing so would guarantee that the child would remain self-centered and never achieve his or her potential. Therefore, a critical component of our tradition's holistic perspective is a disciplined love that seeks to direct, motivate, correct, and support each young person along his life journey. - California State University, Stanislaus serves a diverse student body of more than 9,000 at two locations in the Central Valley — a beautiful 228-acre campus in Turlock and the Stockton Center, located in the city's historic Magnolia District. Widely recognized for its dedicated faculty and high-quality academic programs, the University offers 43 majors, 41 minors, and more than 100 areas of concentration, 15 master's degree programs, seven credential programs, and a doctorate in educational leadership. The University opened as Stanislaus State College in 1960, with a faculty of 15 and fewer than 800 students, at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock. The institution moved to its current location in 1965, gained university status and its present name in 1986, and opened its Stockton Center in 1998. Stanislaus State is part of the California State University, a 23-campus system across California. With more than 400,000 students, it is the largest, the most diverse, and one of the most affordable university systems in the country. The Classroom Building housed facilities for art, music, drama, and the sciences and provided classrooms for lectures. The library, a companion project to the Classroom Building, was later named the Vasche Library in memory of the University's founding president, Dr. J. Burton Vasche. In 1985, the college was officially renamed California State University Stanislaus by the action of the State Legislature and the Board of Trustees of the California State University.
