  1. King's College London Mathematics School is run in partnership with King's College London University, to provide high-quality mathematics education in the heart of London. The school was inspired by the Kolmogorov Physics and Mathematics School in Moscow, established in 1965. Our curriculum combines mathematics with physics and computing to give students the key understanding and skills they will need to go on to study mathematical courses at universities. Our extended curriculum, which culminates in an extended individual research project, provides students with a broad understanding of the world around them as well as research, writing and presentation skills. Our lessons take students beyond the content required for examinations, and in doing so we cannot only achieve excellence in public examinations but also inspire students and prepare them effectively for university study and successful careers. Students take A levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Physics at the end of their second year, and an AS Level in either Computer Science or Economics at the end of the first year. Also, they have the option to complete an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), equivalent to an AS in scope. The curriculum is broad and well balanced and includes personal development, weekly problem-solving sessions with Ph.D. students, an afternoon of extension and challenge each week, the option to attend a diverse range of clubs and societies, and a weekly opportunity for sport and exercise. King’s Maths School is for students with a particular aptitude and enthusiasm for mathematics and aims to widen participation in mathematical degrees and careers at the very best universities and institutions. We are a fully inclusive community that promotes equality and diversity and that is an exemplification of the Fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We provide an education that: Is both engaging and challenging Inspires curiosity and motivates an interest in further study Equips students with a coherent understanding as well as a procedural fluency Empowers students by developing their thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills Provides students with a welcoming community in which they can feel at home and develop outstanding collaborative skills Enables students to make informed decisions about their futures and effectively supports them to realize their ambitions Enables the progress of every student. At King’s Maths School, you will learn to think rigorously and precisely, but also creatively, to solve problems. You will learn to construct arguments and to justify them confidently. Mathematicians are the world’s greatest problem solvers, and you will join their ranks. Mathematical developments have underpinned the technological and information revolutions that have transformed the modern world, and yet the subject is far more than simply a valuable tool for scientists, engineers, and financial analysts: it is a beautiful, powerful, enriching, and immensely stimulating subject. Our vision is to make the world a better place. We will continue to focus on world-leading education, research, and service and will have an increasingly proactive role to play in a more interconnected, complex world. We will continue to expand the huge contribution King’s makes to London and through that a national contribution within the UK, and beyond that to an international community that serves the world. 2. Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a boys’ comprehensive school and one of the top schools in the Borough. We are heavily over-subscribed with long waiting lists. The majority of families are from Bangladesh and therefore most of the students are members of the Muslim faith. We have a small but increasing number of students from other communities. The school is located in the East End of London, close to Canary Wharf and docklands, in an area of social and economic disadvantage but also exciting new opportunities. It is close to residential riverside developments and no more than a mile from the City of London. At Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College our vision is to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to gain the qualifications and skills required for them to take their rightful place in a global community. To us, every child matters and we work together with our families to realize our students’ dreams and aspirations. At Stepney Green there is a real drive for academic excellence, coupled with an approach to develop the whole person, making learning enjoyable and exciting. In 2011, Ofsted judged the school as “Outstanding”, and these included teaching and learning, leadership and management, and parents/community links. DCSF has identified the school as a ‘High Performing Specialist School’ and the borough has reclassified the school as Outstanding. We have also gained a second specialism, which is in Science. Our sporting accomplishments are outstanding, our parents are extremely supportive and our staffs are committed to improving their practice. The Governing Body is fully supportive and keen to see Stepney Green realize its potential as a center of excellence for learning and achievement. The school benefits from a variety of funding including Excellence in Cities, National Grid for Learning, Behaviour Improvement Plan, and is part of the Building Schools for the Future program. Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a vibrant and exciting place to teach, with staff who are extremely supportive of each other. We are very pleased with the improvements we have made but we are also determined to make further progress in the future. We are committed to the idea of continuous school improvement, providing all staff (particularly those new to the school) with excellent training and support, and building a learning community for all. The mission of Stepney Green Maths, Computing and Science College is to develop, motivate, and inspire our pupils, enabling them to succeed in life. Our vision is for all individuals at Stepney Green Maths & Computing College to be successful learners, who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve. Together we aspire to become creative, confident people who can live safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives, thus ensuring we are all responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society. We are committed to providing an appropriate and high-quality education for all our students. We believe that all children and young people - including those identified with special educational needs and disabilities - have a common entitlement to be fully included in aspects of school life and must have access to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum. Part of our mission is to ensure all our students make good academic progress, and “become creative, confident people who can live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives”. To this end, our objective is to ensure a wide range of extended school provisions to meet the needs of our school and the wider community. We work with the gradually expanding “Stepney Partnership” to bring together children, families, and staff across the partnership schools of primary and secondary to share fun activities, new experiences, understanding of each other, and expertise. All our students are included on our school trips and we often target different groups to ensure all have the chance to experience new adventures and a different way of learning. We make adjustments to accommodate those with additional needs and ensure all feel welcome and comfortable joining in. Rigorous assessments are made to ensure student's needs are met, safety is of the highest standard, any risk factors are minimal, and thorough evaluations help to inform future planning.
