  1. Stepney Greencoat School was founded in 1710 by leading community members from the Hamlet of Ratcliff, to educate 110 local children. It has developed and grown with the area over the last three centuries, meeting the needs of the community as it transformed from an industrial dockyard to the socially mixed, multicultural settlement that it is today. The school is proud of its rich history and looking forward to forging ahead into the future whilst continuing to play a vital role in local life for centuries to come. Stepney Greencoat is a small and welcoming Church of England Primary School in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. We are a good school and are committed to improving further with a clear focus on maximizing the achievement and progress of each child. With so many larger primary schools within Tower Hamlets, we feel blessed to be a one-form entry school. Our smaller size means that everyone in the school knows everyone else. This means that our pupils feel safe, happy, and special. In consultation with our children, governors, parents, and carers, and staff we have put together the following vision, ethos, and values for the next few years for our School. In as few words as possible, we have tried to come up with a statement that best captures what we are trying to do at Stepney Greencoat. Here it is: Helping children to flourish in a safe, diverse, and inclusive Christian environment. To explain this vision statement a little more and to put some markers down as to what each phrase means, we have a few paragraphs below on our distinctive and characteristics as a school. We are: “Helping children to flourish.” Here at Stepney Greencoat School, we believe each child is an individual with their special talents. We will strive to enable them individually and together to realize their full potential and to make school a happy experience for them. To this end, we aim to provide a high level of teaching, partner with parents and carers, and provide an education that is ‘more than SATS’. We are entrusted with children and work hard to keep them safe and secure. We delight in being part of a diverse community in Tower Hamlets, which also sadly includes high levels of child poverty and deprivation. We are glad to have children with a range of abilities and from a variety of ethnic, religious, and family backgrounds. We work hard to involve everyone in the whole life of the School because all people are made in God’s image and worthy of respect and honor. The School was founded over 300 years ago out of strong Christian convictions. We are keen to maintain this basis. From this flows our desire for all our children to grow, flourish and be safe while they are with us. We are keen that Christian teaching on love, forgiveness, hard work, and justice are embedded in the School, as we follow the God who is loving and just. We have a diverse school community of pupils, families, staff, and governors and we learn and work in partnership together to ensure that all children flourish at our school. We are extremely proud of the confident, courteous, and well-mannered children we have at Stepney Greencoat. We challenge our children to bring out the best in themselves, to respect and value each other, and to take pleasure from the success of others whilst offering support to those who may need it. 2. Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a boys’ comprehensive school and one of the top schools in the Borough. We are heavily over-subscribed with long waiting lists. The majority of families are from Bangladesh and therefore most of the students are members of the Muslim faith. We have a small but increasing number of students from other communities. The school is located in the East End of London, close to Canary Wharf and docklands, in an area of social and economic disadvantage but also exciting new opportunities. It is close to residential riverside developments and no more than a mile from the City of London. At Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College our vision is to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to gain the qualifications and skills required for them to take their rightful place in a global community. To us, every child matters and we work together with our families to realize our students’ dreams and aspirations. At Stepney Green there is a real drive for academic excellence, coupled with an approach to develop the whole person, making learning enjoyable and exciting. In 2011, Ofsted judged the school as “Outstanding”, and these included teaching and learning, leadership and management, and parents/community links. DCSF has identified the school as a ‘High Performing Specialist School’ and the borough has reclassified the school as Outstanding. We have also gained a second specialism, which is in Science. Our sporting accomplishments are outstanding, our parents are extremely supportive and our staffs are committed to improving their practice. The Governing Body is fully supportive and keen to see Stepney Green realize its potential as a center of excellence for learning and achievement. The school benefits from a variety of funding including Excellence in Cities, National Grid for Learning, Behaviour Improvement Plan, and is part of the Building Schools for the Future program. Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a vibrant and exciting place to teach, with staff who are extremely supportive of each other. We are very pleased with the improvements we have made but we are also determined to make further progress in the future. We are committed to the idea of continuous school improvement, providing all staff (particularly those new to the school) with excellent training and support, and building a learning community for all. The mission of Stepney Green Maths, Computing and Science College is to develop, motivate, and inspire our pupils, enabling them to succeed in life. Our vision is for all individuals at Stepney Green Maths & Computing College to be successful learners, who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve. Together we aspire to become creative, confident people who can live safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives, thus ensuring we are all responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society. We are committed to providing an appropriate and high-quality education for all our students. We believe that all children and young people - including those identified with special educational needs and disabilities - have a common entitlement to be fully included in aspects of school life and must have access to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum. Part of our mission is to ensure all our students make good academic progress, and “become creative, confident people who can live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives”. To this end, our objective is to ensure a wide range of extended school provisions to meet the needs of our school and the wider community. We work with the gradually expanding “Stepney Partnership” to bring together children, families, and staff across the partnership schools of primary and secondary to share fun activities, new experiences, understanding of each other, and expertise. All our students are included on our school trips and we often target different groups to ensure all have the chance to experience new adventures and a different way of learning. We make adjustments to accommodate those with additional needs and ensure all feel welcome and comfortable joining in. Rigorous assessments are made to ensure student's needs are met, safety is of the highest standard, any risk factors are minimal, and thorough evaluations help to inform future planning.
