  1. Kingsmead is a good school Situated in East Enfield, Kingsmead is a multi-cultural 11-18-mixed comprehensive school meeting the diverse needs of the local community. We are a National Leadership School whose senior staff share expertise with other schools around the country. We are also a specialist school for performing and visual arts. The Kingsmead motto 'Practise to Perfect underpins the culture of high expectations and supports everything we do and is reflected in the enviable scores for value added by which our performance is judged. Kingsmead students wear a smart, business-like uniform. Classroom expectations of behavior and commitment to learning are high and Kingsmead has received national recognition for its Behaviour for Learning Programme. Academic progress is carefully monitored and parents are informed through termly reports and half-termly progress updates as well as annual parent evenings. Kingsmead benefited from a ten-year building program that provided state-of-the-art teaching facilities for performing and visual arts, our specialism, and all areas of the curriculum have benefited from new or improved teaching facilities. The PE department shares outdoor facilities with the Southbury Leisure Centre, the majority of teaching rooms use interactive ICT facilities and all students have access to ICT and library resources in school as well as online from home. Although there are approximately 1500 students, Kingsmead maintains a personal feel through weekly year group assemblies in the 'Arts heart' of the school, the splendid Kingsmead Theatre opened in 2007. Class sizes are deliberately kept low and learning is personalized through carefully planned teaching groups throughout the school. A full range of additional support is available to students and students’ welfare and academic progress are carefully monitored by experienced Learning Directors of Year. Kingsmead works closely with local primary schools and colleges to ensure smooth transitions and our team of six Associate Assistant Heads work closely with colleagues in other secondary schools to share developments in teaching and learning. Many of our teachers are experienced examiners in their subjects and they share their knowledge of the latest developments in assessment with colleagues and students. Many community groups share our facilities these include church groups, sports clubs, and the Enfield Arts Support Service. The regular Kingsmead Car Boot Sale has been a feature of Enfield weekends for many years. Instead, at Kingsmead, there is only where you are now, where you need to be, and the quality and pace of what you do to get there. Every student needs an idea of what ‘perfect’ looks like and to be willing to practice, to keep failing to get there, but (to quote Samuel Beckett), to ‘fail better’ every time. We want ‘every student to be able to access a university course or a professional career’. That is not necessarily a career as a professional such as a doctor, teacher, or vet, but a career that will take them somewhere and they have a professional attitude toward.
  2. Kingsmead School was founded in 1904, to provide an environment “ideal for learning well”. Although much has altered since then, this aspect of the school is unchanged: we still offer a wholly pupil-centered, holistic education. As such we are one of Merseyside’s leading independent schools. We achieve the best GCSE results in Wirral for all-ability schools. What Kingsmead has to offer its families is different firstly because of the size of the school: we keep classes small to ensure that children here are known – and taught – as individuals. Next, we combine high expectations of conduct with ready praise for effort. Lastly, we regard our whole school community as an extended family. These factors contribute greatly to the spirit of affection, camaraderie, and respect in every area of the school: Kingsmead pupils do care about and respect each other. They also get on very well with their teachers. In the classroom, we give however much time and trouble is needed to help each pupil reach their full potential. Our high fliers excel, but more importantly, all our children have the opportunity to succeed. Whatever their aptitudes and interests, all those who join us discover all they need are here. This is why, I believe, so many of our pupils have gone on to become Kingsmead parents – and grandparents – in their turn: they know we offer a firm foundation for future life because they benefited from Kingsmead too. A Kingsmead education remains, over a century after the school’s foundation, an exceptional start in life for children. Kingsmead School provides a bespoke education that is transformative for your child and life-changing for your family. It supports children to become happy, confident, well-balanced, ambitious young people of the future. The enhanced learning at Kingsmead has produced an exceptional academic record, with GCSE and 11+ pass rates consistently over 80%. The school offers intellectual, emotional, and spiritual support for each child tailored to their individual needs. Kingsmead’s commitment to individual growth extends to every academic stage: the recently introduced Sixth Form provides a level of 1:1 tuition rare to find elsewhere. A great option for busy families is the availability of full and Flexi boarding, giving students extended access to many peaceful study areas as well as the school’s excellent sports and other facilities. The school has over 20 acres of grounds and playing fields, a food and nutrition classroom, a drama and music studio, a heated indoor pool, a science block, and ICT suites for all departments. Wrap-around care is available for all ages at Holiday Club and After-school club, 49 weeks a year. A Kingsmead education is a transformative education providing the essential tools to make your child future-ready. View full school

  4. At Kingsmead, we follow the local authority admissions procedure. All admissions are managed by The Learning Trust. More information can be found on our website. For Nursery applications please contact the school office. In-year admissions are also managed by The Learning Trust but the school welcomes parents who wish to tour the school or make inquiries about places in specific year groups. Once children have been offered a place at Kingsmead, families will be invited to complete admissions paperwork and discuss their child's needs at the school. Early Years provision at Kingsmead works in partnership with parents/carers. We promote parental contribution and celebrate the shared experiences collaboration brings. The children learn through a wide range of meaningful, multi-sensory, practical activities within a rich, creative environment. The children in our Nursery and Reception classes follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. The role of play in the Foundation Stage is recognized as a crucial part of the learning journey, enabling children to develop in all areas and underpins learning in the Early Years. Children learn by leading their play and by taking part in play which is guided by adults. Play is essential for children's development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, problem solves, and relate to others which are all set within a secure and safe challenging indoor and outdoor environment. At Kingsmead, we take pride in the high standards of good behavior that our children exhibit in and around the school. We believe that good behaviour and respect for each other and our surroundings ensure a calm and productive atmosphere in which to learn. To achieve this, the school has operated a system called "Stay on Green" since 2005 this system ensures that children are rewarded for good behavior and that positive behavior management techniques are used consistently by all staff. We have very high expectations concerning behavior and hope to develop children’s understanding of the impact of choices they make, whether positive or negative. Good behavior and achievement are not automatically learned. Instead, positive behaviors must be modeled, explained, taught, supported, and recognized. The expectations are designed to focus on positive action (I like the way you are walking sensibly) rather than what children should not do (do not run). The expectations are agreed on actions so that there are consistency and fairness in all areas of school life. Kingsmead positive behavior language is used by all staff to reinforce the approval of children doing the right thing and not to constantly address those who do not. All children are encouraged to 'stay on the green' and are rewarded for doing so with golden time at the end of the week. For those who do not do the right thing, there are a series of warnings and sanctions that aim to allow them to correct their bad behavior and make better choices next time. The ‘school rules’ are displayed in all classrooms and communal areas and each classroom, learning space will have to stay on green charts which show at any point on any day how each child is doing. Each child has an individual pocket with their name on it. Broadly speaking this is the system that operates school-wide although there are slightly differing systems in place for children of different ages. The aim is to keep a green card in the pocket. If a child has had a verbal warning from a teacher and not improved their behavior they will be put on a blue card where the aim is to be moved back to green to earn your golden time, according to age they will then spend 5 minutes on the class time out chair. Gayhurst, Kingsmead, and Mandeville school work in partnership to ensure outstanding outcomes for all the children of our schools and beyond. In June 2017 the schools became a three school federation and now we have one governing body across the three schools. The governing body is mostly volunteers, meeting regularly and working closely with the Executive Headteacher and the senior leadership team to help the schools develop successfully and to promote high standards of educational achievement. The Governing body is made up of the school’s Executive Headteacher, Local Authority governors and co-opted governors, elected parents, and elected staff members. Together, our primary concern is for the welfare of the schools as a whole and we operate within a standard Code of Conduct for those involved in aspects of public life. Assessment at Kingsmead supports learning. We use different types of assessment during the school year to ensure that our approach to assessment meets the needs of all stakeholders. We use in-school formative assessment to support class teachers and children in identifying areas of success and areas for improvement. It is integral to teaching practice and is used to both plan appropriate teaching and learning activities and adapt these to our children's needs. It is also used to identify children requiring extra support and to ensure that all pupils achieve well. We understand that this assessment is a professional judgment and therefore we use a wide range of evidence to accurately assess children's attainment and progress. Teachers actively seek ways to challenge children's understanding to gain a full picture of their attainment. Assessment is the responsibility of all teaching staff and we plan specific opportunities for moderation and discussion of our judgments. We also use information in-school summative assessments from checkpoints at set times of the year when children take assessments in the form of tests. The health and welfare of the children are monitored closely. When children enter Reception classes they are given a medical examination by the school nurse, including sight, hearing, height, and weight. Additional dental checks are carried out at regular intervals. The school nurse visits regularly to conduct health assessments and invites parents along. Every year in the Summer Term, Year 6 and some of Year 5 go on a residential trip from Monday to Friday. The aim is to give the children a broader life experience, to learn new skills, and to increase children’s independence before they go to secondary school. In recent years they have taken part in abseiling, archery, go-karting, river walking, mackerel fishing, and visited many different historic sites. View full school

  6. Choosing the right school for your child can be a daunting experience. Not only do parents often struggle to work out the right balance between school size and pastoral care that won’t limit their child, but they also need to find the right educational environment to suit them. Yet fear not, choosing a small independent day and boarding school can open up big opportunities for children. So how do we define Kingsley School? Kingsley School is best described as a close-knit community, a school which helps children come out of their shell, develop friendships with other students, deepen their confidence and achieve their best academic performance. Students at Kingsley have the sensation of living and learning in a family setting rather than in a staid, distant institution. Furthermore, Kingsley positively encourages students to develop close friendships within and across year groups, building strong connections which often go on to last a lifetime. Of course, at Kingsley School, all the teachers know all the students on a first-name basis. The school has the added benefit of providing students with much smaller class sizes than a typical school, or indeed other independent schools. If your child struggles with science or finds Spanish grammar complicated, the increased personal contact and one-to-one contact help the school establish where students have difficulties. This way they can tackle the issues head-on, as opposed to leaving a student to struggle alone. Mentoring is also an active part of school life, with sixth formers nurturing and supporting year 7 students when they join senior school helping deal with any minor blip, across to reception class welcoming pre-school children for their regular transition days. Students are also positively encouraged to form an active part of the school community daily form times and assemblies involving all students and staff provides everyone the chance to voice concerns or problems, providing an active dialogue between student and teacher. Forming part of a community environment means students in schools such as Kingsley School develop a unique sense of togetherness during their entire school career. Our school prides itself is on the leadership and confidence-boosting opportunities for children in all year groups, from nursery to the sixth form. From sports to drama and music, students are challenged and encouraged to develop their interests and confidence as an individual. Students will leave school with outstanding leadership qualities and newfound confidence, standing them in good stead for future studies and life after education. We are of course biased, but strongly believe Kingsley School provides the perfect start to education, offering confidence-building extracurricular activities and a level of pastoral care which is second to none. Children feel at home and supported whilst benefiting from a tailor-made education to build upon their talents and help target areas that need additional support. View full school

  8. At Kingsley, we aim for all children to be happy, independent, and motivated with a real love of learning. For us, academic success and personal, social, and emotional development are of equal importance and we work hard to ensure that we develop the whole child. We believe that home, school, and the local community work best in partnership to ensure that all children can reach their full potential. We provide all our children with an exciting, rich, and varied curriculum that meets their needs whilst promoting high standards. We believe in a rounded curriculum and promote a love for the arts, inquisitiveness about the world around them, and enjoyment of physical activity alongside the basic skills of communication, literacy, and mathematics. We believe that children should be encouraged to embrace challenges, take risks, be intrigued by mistakes, and become lifelong learners. We are a community school that represents a rich and diverse local population. We actively promote and encourage links with our local community and beyond to enrich everyone’s learning. It is very important to us that everyone feels valued and welcome when they come into our school. The Primary Hearing Centre is also based at Kingsley Primary School. Deaf children from all over Croydon and some neighboring boroughs come to the Centre for specialist teaching and support. The Centre is part of the centrally funded Croydon Sensory Support Service. We are a four-form entry school, with a fifth 'bulge' class currently in Year 1, 2, and 3. Each year group is led by a senior teacher who has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the year team, and who liaises with the other year group leaders to ensure continuity in children’s learning as they move through the school. The teachers in each year team work together to plan the detail of the curriculum. We also employ teaching assistants, nursery nurses, and a behavior mentor who work alongside the teaching staff, providing valuable additional support for the children. We have Pupil Support Assistants (PSAs) who work with children who have special educational needs and several teachers and bi-lingual assistants who work with children for whom English is an additional language. At Kingsley, respect for ourselves and others combined with integrity in all that we do, allows our community to feel safe to create, innovate and take responsibility for our actions. The aims of the school curriculum as stated in the Education Reform Act are to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils at the school and society and to prepare such pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life. The School embraces these aims translating them into the most effective Learning and Teaching strategies. As far as is possible every opportunity is given for the children to learn through first-hand experience. Maximum use is made of the child’s natural curiosity. The teacher guides the pupil encouraging high standards in the development of the basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. The needs of the children growing up in a literate and increasingly technological society are of the utmost concern to the staff. Each stage of learning is carefully planned so that from simple everyday situations children progress towards abstract notions. View full school

  10. We are the world in one school and that makes our school both exciting and unique. We have over 430 children aged 2-11 and they come from over 35 countries. Between us, we speak over 30 languages so we are a very talented, multilingual school. We are located in the heart of the Granby area of Toxteth and are at the hub of the local community. We have Granby Children’s Centre on site and together we seek to serve and work with our families as well as support other schools and settings. Our visions and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. Respect Equality Self-Worth Co-operation Our school motto, ‘Learning together, respecting each other’ sums up our approach to life here. All of us are learning and we are on a journey together, supporting each other and celebrating all we have in common as well as our differences. Kingsley Community school is in a culturally diverse area and we are proud to promote and celebrate our different backgrounds and beliefs. The values of Mutual Respect and understanding, Democracy, The Rule of Law, and Individual Liberty are at the heart of what we do: We always try to give everyone a fair chance We always try to treat each other with respect We always try to be the best we can We always try to work together, helping each other are our core values Our children know and understand that it is expected that respect is shown to everyone, whatever differences we may have, and to everything, whether it is a school resource, a religious belief. Children learn that their behavior choices affect their rights and those of others. Our children are always listened to by adults and are taught to listen carefully and with concern to each other, respecting the right of every individual to have their opinions and voices heard. We encourage pupils to take ownership of not only their school but also of their learning and progress. This encourages a sense of both personal and social responsibility. We are committed to promoting gender equality. We fully endorse UNESCO's view that’…girls’ education is essential to the achievement of quality learning to the 21st century…’ Alongside rules and laws, we promote freedom of choice and the right to respectfully express views and beliefs. Through the provision of a safe, supportive environment, we provide boundaries for our pupils to make choices safely. Our pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are taught how to exercise these safely. The importance of rules and laws, whether they be those that govern our school or our country, are referred to and reinforced often, such as in assemblies and when reflecting on behavior choices. At the start of the school year, each class discusses and sets its own Class Rules, a set of principles that are clearly understood by all and seen to be necessary to ensure that every class member can learn in a safe and ordered environment. In the Early Years, we have Nursery and Reception classes. Our youngest children come in at 2 years old, where they enter either the Yellow or the Blue Room. Most children, when they are 3years old, stay with us in the Red for the rest of their time in Nursery Class. Our phonics program is based on ‘Letters and Sounds Phase One to Four, Jolly Phonics Phase Two and Three, and Liverpool School Improvement Plans Year One and Two phonics. Pupils entering Nursery begin working within Phase One. Reception pupils are expected to be working in Phase Two and Three and usually enter Year One ready to begin Phase Four. Phonics Play and The Phonics Bug Reading Scheme fully support our phonics program. All Year one children are formally assessed in June by an unseen government Phonics Screening Check. The children are asked to decode forty words, twenty real words, and twenty ‘alien words’. Results of this screening check are reported to parents. View full school

  12. At Kingsley Academy, we believe in the power of education to transform lives and we also believe that every child has fantastic potential and can achieve. We seek to work collectively as a whole school community to support, educate and nurture each young person who joins the academy as they make the journey towards young adulthood. We will also support each other and work together with our partners and sponsor to learn and use the very best practices which will support our students in achieving our aims. Our vision an ambitious academy promoting academic, cultural, and social success for all. The Kingsley Academy Motto - “Make our Best Better” - means that we will not accept anything but a child’s very best efforts in everything they do. Three examples: if a piece of work is not to the standard the child is capable of producing, it must be done again behavior must always be the best a child can display working as hard as possible is the expectation at all times. The Kingsley Academy Mission statement - “Outstanding learning in every classroom and beyond, because learning changes lives” - requires that all children are enabled to learn and “make their best better”, thanks to excellent teaching and the widest possible range of opportunities inside and outside the classroom because Kingsley Academy staff know that success in school makes a profound and fundamental difference to the lives of the children in our care. The work we do in school enables our students to develop robust, resilient foundations for their future success and happiness. All students are put into teaching groups according to their ability. We judge this in Year 7 from their SATs and MiDYS test results. MiDYS are a national test base used by many schools, including all AET academies. They identify numeracy, literacy, and non-verbal reasoning skills and areas of weaknesses in the child. Data regarding progress is collected regularly and this informs our decisions about moving students to different groups. Throughout their time with us, we strive to make as many links with external partners as possible, thus opening opportunities for our students across many areas, including the arts, business and enterprise, and higher education. We are proud of our reputation for inclusiveness and our curriculum increasingly reflects this philosophy. Targets for all students, including SEND, are set high and teachers are encouraged to plan work that is differentiated but stretches and challenges all students. Each SEND student has a Pupil Passport which outlines the most appropriate methods for getting the best out of the student. We provide a range of targeted evidence-based interventions for students with additional needs. The inclusion team also works with students with behavioral and emotional challenges. Throughout their time at Kingsley Academy students will receive advice on careers and the world of work through tutor time and various events throughout the academic year. At key times, students will study a careers curriculum through the tutor time program, which allows them to look at a range of ideas such as personal identity and skills, understanding the world of work, post-16 qualifications, managing change, etc. Students are offered the opportunity to have face-to-face guidance with an impartial careers advisor. 14. We are a popular and successful primary and nursery school for boys and girls. We have a vibrant and diverse school community where mothers, fathers, and carers feel at home and take an active part in helping their children to learn and make progress. We expect all our children to make excellent academic progress and to leave us to go on to secondary school as confident and enthusiastic learners, ready for the next phase of their life. We have a lovely school which is kept in a beautiful condition to reflect the high standards that we set ourselves in all areas. Our school should give children a skill set that will maximize their positive life changes in the future. Our school should give children a particular set of values in the interests of individuals and wider society. These values should prepare our children for life in modern Britain. Our values: Excellence We believe that getting better never stops We have a culture that enables children and staff to excel We are proud of our school and our achievements Respect We treat everyone with respect We value all peoples and cultures equally We do not tolerate any form of bullying or prejudice Resilience We encourage teamwork and cooperation We communicate well with each other We praise each other and recognize and share our successes The vast majority of our children speak languages other than English at home. Many of our children start school with low skills in speaking and listening. Over half of our children come from families that are eligible for pupil premium funding. We know that many disadvantaged children start falling behind before they start school. For all these reasons, we have a focus on speaking and listening in the Early Years. We focus on reading, writing, and mathematics across the whole school. As a result, our pupils achieve very well at each key stage. We teach these fundamental skills in ways that will interest and inspire children. We emphasize the importance of these skills in other subjects. We make sure that children get engaging and challenging lessons in every subject. We make links between different subjects. We also aim to develop subject-specific skills. For example, in history lessons, we teach children to think like a historian. Children make and follow their lines of inquiry. Children enjoy a range of first-hand experiences. They go on many different trips. Visitors, workshops, and investigative approaches get them excited by the curriculum. For example, children visit a science laboratory and they make their shampoo. We also place a lot of importance on the arts. All children in Years 4 to 6 learn a musical instrument. All children get opportunities to perform in public. For example, children perform at the Royal Albert Hall with other Camden schools. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment perform and hold workshops with children. Children also have the opportunity to be creative and learn a range of artistic skills. We prepare children for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of later life. We particularly emphasize the importance of cooperation and teamwork. At Kingsgate Primary School we expect all pupils to make good progress and achieve their highest potential. We welcome all children in the community and we make every effort to ensure that special educational needs or a disability will not be a bar to joining in the normal day-to-day activities that other children experience. Sometimes children just need a bit more help and we are quick to spot when to give that help. Sometimes children have more complex needs and we work with a range of agencies to support their learning. Our teachers and teaching assistants are very skilled at helping all the children in their class learn, whatever their needs. Two learning mentors, an art therapist, and a senior educational psychologist also help children when they need more support. The children from Year 3 to Year 6 all have a responsibility such as buddying younger children or being mediators to help each other sort out any friendship issues. They learn to help each other and they learn important life skills at the same time. The school recently achieved the Camden Award for Inclusion which recognized our commitment to enabling all our pupils to achieve highly, whatever their needs. 16. Kingsford Community School is a co-educational secondary school with an International School and Confucius Classroom status in the heart of Beckton, East London. With a cohort of 1500 pupils, it is a center of learning within the community and has contributed to making significant differences to the prospects of young people, their families, and indeed the community since it opened in September 2000. In Kingsford’s last Ofsted inspection, the report stated that ‘the pupil’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding. They develop into mature and reflective young adults who show a strong sense of responsibility and a genuine concern for others.’ Kingsford Community School is a place for excellence, achievement, and progress, it is committed to enabling students to realize their potential through the provision of exciting opportunities which help them to develop their talent. We celebrate and reward both effort and achievement as it is the most effective way to motivate students towards success. All staff work towards setting achievable targets for pupils and regularly review them, for each individual to observe and learn from their tangible progress and move forwards to even greater accomplishments. Kingsford is a place for equality. Equality is at the core of everything we do. We believe that everyone is of equal value and entitled to equal opportunities. We have well-established systems for monitoring equality. All Learning Areas have their policies closely linked to this integral part of the school’s ethos. This ensures that curriculum planning supports our equal opportunities and inclusion strategies. Kingsford is also a place for partnership. There is clear evidence that students are more successful if parents and carers are actively involved in their education. We keep parents fully informed of their child’s progress through our Profile System, regular parents’ evenings, and Student Academic Counselling Days. In the same way, we have developed positive links with primary schools and other secondary schools in both England and abroad. Kingsford’s unique link with independent school Brighton College (the country’s leading co-educational school), has been praised by many, including the former Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, as a ‘blueprint’ for partnerships between the private and maintained educational sectors. Kingsford is a place that transcends the classroom. A dominant aspect of the school’s ethos is committed to the provision of a full range of extra-curricular activities, particularly in: sport, debating, drama, music, and computing. For us, learning does not stop when the bell goes. Central to the school-based activities is the Learning Resource Centre, where students can access numerous resources to support their learning, including a variety of e-learning opportunities such as the world-renowned Rosetta Stone, an online language learning tool that students can also access at home. At Kingsford, we bridge the gap between independent and state schools and, this can be seen through our links to the London Academy of Excellence and Brighton College Sixth Form. The ability for Kingsford students, each year, to gain scholarships to Brighton College Sixth Form worth £50,000 shows the quality of opportunities available to students studying at Kingsford. Whilst we uphold traditional values of academic achievement and standards of behavior, we constantly respond to the changing needs of our students and the demands of higher education and employers. Our sporting prowess is well established within Newham, London, and the UK. The school has long held the Sportsmark award, whilst our budding football teams have been regular London Cup winners as well as being National Cup finalists. Students can participate in a range of sports including rugby, netball, dance, hockey, and athletics. The health of our students is also very important and Kingsford is a recipient of the Healthy Schools Award. At Kingsford, we understand the importance of extra-curricular activities. The Coding Club, the Latin Club, and Orchestra Rehearsal are just some of the activities students can take part in after school. At Kingsford, we expect all of our students to contribute to the community and to actively seek to better themselves. Given that students at Kingsford are valued for their individuality and their enormous creative potential, students at Kingsford finish their secondary education as mature, confident, and bright individuals. 20. Our school motto Spectemur Agendo goes back to the founding of our predecessor school in the 1920s. It’s Latin for “let us be judged by our actions”. Our students gain excellent examination results and Ofsted rate the school as “good”. We’re proud to be judged by the actions which have led to those outcomes. Well, if you are coming up to Year 7 age, you will be coming to a school which gives its students the best start possible. And if you are thinking of coming to our Sixth Form, ours is one of the best around, graded outstanding the last time Ofsted announced separate judgments for sixth forms. We now offer students who join us in Year 7 a very exciting first couple of years. Rather than a long slow warm-up to what used to be called “key stage 3”, we now have a two-year Foundation stage to what we call “The Kingsbury Curriculum.” But school is about more than examinations and we are equally proud of the many opportunities we provide for our students beyond the curriculum. The way we are as a school is expressed through our PRIDE values: Personal Excellence, Respect and Friendship, Inspiration, Determination and Courage, and Equality. Through these, we aim to combine both academic success and the development of the broader aspects of each student’s character. Students will experience the full range of subjects by rotating through different arts and technology-based subjects in each half term. Students in years seven and eight receive extended homework projects to support their work at school and each half term they make an oral presentation to their class in one subject, to help improve their public speaking skills and confidence. Students are also expected to complete a portfolio of their experiences which we call “The Kingsbury Guarantee.” All of this culminates in a graduation ceremony at the end of Year 8 when students and parents come together to celebrate the successes of the first two years. We hope this firm foundation will enable our students to accelerate in Year 9 and go on to examination success at the end of Year 11. Currently, around two-thirds of our students gain five A*-C grades including English and Maths and we hope to maintain this high standard over the next few years. Alongside our academic work, we have an excellent program of extra-curricular activities, and every three weeks we have an “Excel Day” when the usual timetable is replaced by an all-day activity. Kingsbury High School started as Kingsbury County School in 1925, becoming the Kingsbury County Grammar School in 1944. Two secondary modern schools, Tyler’s Croft Girls and Boys, were opened on Bacon Lane in 1952, and the three schools merged to become comprehensive in 1967. In 1993 a majority of parents voted for the school to gain Grant Maintained status, which brought direct government funding and a degree of independence, for example, over admissions. The school rapidly gained a national reputation for computing, emphasized when The Queen personally chose the school for her launch of the royal website. Kingsbury High was then designated a “beacon school”, charged with sharing its good practice with other schools. Specialist status in Mathematics and Computing followed in 2004 and the years 2010 and 2015 have seen highly successful Ofsted inspections confirming Kingsbury High as a "good" school. The school has consistently maintained a very good level of examination performance with a record 77% of students gaining five A* - C grades including English and Maths in 2013. The school converted to Academy status in December 2011, reluctantly, in the knowledge that this would bring greater funding for the benefit of our students. Kingsbury High remains committed to the comprehensive ethos and national terms and conditions for teaching staff. We have retained our straightforward name "Kingsbury High School." Our students now have a whole new range of experiences at Kingsbury High as they move through years 7 and 8. At the end of Year 8, if they have met certain criteria, students will “graduate” from the Kingsbury Curriculum. Their pathway into Year 9 will depend upon how well they have been able to do that. In the Sixth Form, we offer traditional, two-year A-level courses, with BTECs available alongside. We also offer a three-year pathway for students who have not quite made the grades for A level but would like to try out an advanced pathway. And we offer English and Maths GCSE to those who have not yet fully qualified at GCSE. View full school
  21. We have retained our straightforward name "Kingsbury High School." 22. Kingsbury Green is an oversubscribed, happy community school for children from 3 to 11 years, set in an attractive and well-maintained building. We enjoy extensive outdoor space so our children benefit from plenty of exercises and “out of doors” learning at all stages of their school life. We were delighted to be awarded “outstanding” status by Ofsted in February 2016. This website demonstrates all that is remarkable and unique about our wonderful school and community. Our school community is diverse in many cultures, faiths, languages, backgrounds, and abilities and as a result, our children are active and increasingly informed global citizens. Kingsbury Green children love to learn in many ways and show this through their impeccable learning behavior, willingness to take risks, and to take on responsibility and leadership. We value and expect an open and active partnership with families so that together we ensure each child achieves their personal best having had an exciting, safe, and memorable learning journey here. As a reflective school, the curriculum content, resourcing, and ways children learn best are kept under constant review. Our school importantly it is founded on values of citizenship and we continue to develop our teaching of history, geography, and the arts to ensure we are exercising children’s skills and knowledge as local, national, and global citizens. Our curriculum captures and explores what it means to live in and contribute to British Society through learning about democracy, free speech, and appreciation of the laws of the country, it is an alive and developing program of learning reflecting the rapidly changing world around them. As opportunities arise we may adapt and adopt new themes, topics, and aspects of interest for our children. Our children have told us that rightly, that they want to learn to be “fun” and to as have many opportunities as possible to learn together in different ways. Our goals in 2014-15 are to harness and embed different ways of learning and working together across all subjects. Our curriculum matches the needs of our learners –children may be taught as a whole class, in smaller groups, or on an individual basis. Increasingly too our learning is happening outdoors and off-site. Assessing children’s learning teachers plan to learn on a weekly, half-termly and annual basis. Achieving our ambition to become a world-class school is the next natural step for Kingsbury Green. Our track record of ambitiously establishing a compelling vision and then systematically setting out to achieve this has brought great success for children and the community. We are a “LearningFirst” school. This means teaching is driven by the assessment of pupils' needs. Our goal is to be rid of labels that define pupil “ability”. Our goal is to be rid of ability groups and any other form of the ceiling to children’s learning. We aspire to remove limiting language and practice from our pedagogy. We focus on our children, their profile, and identify and what kind of child we want to develop and build our accountability around this We create a core curriculum that matches our vision and enrich it accordingly. We make it explicit to children what we are aiming for and their role We ensure children trust us to enable them to be successful. Academic and pastoral support goes hand in hand – in partnership with families. We ensure consistency – all classes – each year group. We know that potential +personal motivation + opportunities and support = high achievement. Our students are focused on building leadership capacity at all levels, and in developing the quality of teaching. Our students make outstanding progress from their starting points, in all subjects, including English and mathematics. Children in the Nursery have an excellent start to their education, they make rapid progress. They are thoughtful, highly motivated, and successful learners. The wealth of opportunities for them to take on responsibilities results in individuals who are mature and confident beyond their years. Our Partnerships are outstanding. The school reaches out to parents so that they are better able to support their children’s learning. Our students know that if they work hard they will succeed. They develop clear aspirations for career pathways for the future. They are exceptionally well prepared for life in modern Britain. Safeguarding is a high priority for all adults. Consequently, they are kept very safe and are taught how to keep themselves safe. View full school
