      1. Liberton Primary School serves southeast of Edinburgh and was built in 1954. The school is a two-story build set in beautiful, extensive park grounds. We have recently had an outdoor classroom built. At Liberton Primary School we are a ‘learning community’ where staff, pupils, parents, After School Club, and the local community all work together to further the aims and aspirations of our school. At Liberton Primary School we aim to provide a happy, stimulating environment in which every child feels confident and valued as an individual and thus motivated to achieve high educational and personal standards. We are committed to providing learning experiences of the highest quality within an environment of mutual respect and support where every member of our school community feels happy, confident, and valued.’ We work hard to realize this vision and constantly strive to improve the educational experiences for our pupils and quality provision throughout our school. At Liberton, we use the Co-operative Learning approach to enable our children to learn how to collaborate on activities successfully. We ensure that every child has an active role and that social skills are explicitly taught. We understand that learning is frequently most effective when learners have the opportunity to think and talk together, to discuss ideas, question, analyze and solve problems as a team. An additional support need comes from anything which is a barrier to learning. Most of all schools will have some children with additional support needs of some kind. The education authority has many legal duties towards pupils with additional support needs. An additional support need comes from anything which is a barrier to learning. Most of all schools will have some children with additional support needs of some kind. The education authority has many legal duties towards pupils with additional support needs. Our shared values of mutual respect between staff and pupils, high expectations of success within a caring and supportive environment form the basis of our positive school ethos. Within our wider school community, we promote tolerance and understanding of one another and value diversity. We are committed to advancing equality of opportunity for all and we work actively towards eliminating all forms of bullying and discrimination. We actively foster good relations between diverse groups and individuals. What we aim to achieve: Pupils will have greater opportunities to become skilled as creative learners and thinkers. All pupils will benefit from high-quality learning experiences. Learning for children will be demanding and challenging. All pupils will continue to be supported in their learning. There will be great opportunities for children to have choices in their learning. At Liberton Primary School we work very hard to encourage every pupil to realize their full potential and aim to provide a rich, broad, and balanced curriculum, to meet the needs of all our children. Teaching strategies include problem-solving, investigation, and discussion using a wide range of activities and materials. Pupils are taught either as a whole class or in groups, pairs, or individually so that the curriculum can be tailored, as far as possible, to fit the needs of each child. We are developing our use of enhanced group working through Cooperative Learning. The main areas of the curriculum are English & Literacy, Numeracy, and Mathematics, Health & Well Being, Social Studies, Science, Technologies, Religious and Moral Education, and Expressive Arts. 2. The school was officially opened by Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Kent on Thursday 14th May 1959 at 11.15. During her tour of the school, the Duchess of Kent saw girls “using the latest electric irons to prepare tray cloths in the laundry class” and a commemorative Stained Glass window created by William Gibson. We are a comprehensive school serving our community in the South of Edinburgh. We have around 65 staff providing quality experiences for 550 pupils. We believe that every single pupil in our school has huge potential and it is our mission to work with them their parents/carers and the entire community to ensure that every one of them delivers excellent performance in all aspects of their school careers. In partnership with our community, we at Liberton High School aim to ensure that every pupil has the belief, skills, knowledge, and work ethic required to achieve their full potential that will ensure that they are fit for a full, active, and satisfying life in the world beyond school. This will be achieved for all of our learners through the highest quality of learning experiences and personal support. At Liberton High School we believe that Everyone in our school community matters. Diversity should be celebrated and everyone should be cared for, respected, and valued. Everyone has the learning potential and to achieve success beyond what they ever thought possible. Success only happens when we work hard when we never accept anything less than our best. To be successful we need to raise the expectations we have of ourselves and each other. Together we can create a supportive learning culture based on trust, where we can all take risks with our learning and our teaching. An excellent school is a sustainable one that respects its environment and its community We wish to encourage a partnership with you to ensure the best possible standards of pupil behavior. Effective classroom management is vital to establish a secure and positive environment in which teaching can take place. Managing pupils’ behavior is a very important aspect of effective teaching. It is the responsibility of all staff. Effective teachers take full responsibility for the management of their pupils. Our Curriculum for Excellence aims to raise standards, prepare our children for a future they do not yet know, and equip them for the jobs of tomorrow in a fast-changing world. It balances the importance of knowledge and skills. Our curriculum develops skills for learning, life, and work, bringing real life into the classroom, making learning relevant, and helping young people apply lessons to their life beyond the classroom. It links knowledge in one subject area to another helping to make connections in their learning. It develops skills that can enable children to think for themselves, make sound judgments, challenge, enquire and find solutions. Curriculum for Excellence emphasizes the value of an active learning approach. In the early years, children will have a range of learning experiences that include planned and purposeful play and stimulating learning which engages and challenges children’s thinking using real-life and imaginary situations. As children progress through school they continue to be involved in active learning experiences which are engaging and give them ownership of their learning. For effective learning to take place it is the responsibility of the Liberton community to ensure that there is a positive and empowering climate for learning. All staff should have high expectations and promote positive relationships. The climate in which learning takes place should be positive with young people entrusted and encouraged to take responsibility for their learning. We offer a wide range of sporting and cultural activities. We have outstanding activities in the performing arts namely Dance Club, Musical Theatre, Choir, Swing Band, Guitar Ensemble, Cello Ensemble, and a Ceilidh Band. We also have an excellent range of sporting and outdoor education clubs including Bike Club, Football, Rugby, Basket Ball, Gymnastics, Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme, and many more! Science Club is a very successful extra-curricular club and we also have an extensive study support program running after school. View full school
