If you are allocated a place at Lily Lane Nursery this does not guarantee a reception place at Lily Lane Primary School. When your child is due to start Reception you will be contacted by Manchester City Council who will give you details of how to apply online. You must apply to MCC before the deadline which is usually in January after your child has started Nursery. School places for children in Reception to Year 6 are dealt with by Manchester City Council’s Admissions Team.
In October after your child starts in Year 6 you need to apply for their secondary school place. This is an online process administered by Manchester City Council Admission’s Team. If you have any concerns about the process please do not hesitate to contact us and we will support you through the process. During the summer term, pupils in year 6 will usually be visited by staff from the high school they will be attending. They will also have the opportunity to visit the high school and meet the staff and pupils there.
Lily Lane Primary School was built in 1904 we now have approximately 570 pupils on roll. We have a 60 place nursery, where children are taught in four groups of 15. Due to increasing pupil numbers we now have 75 children in Reception and Year 1, 90 children in Year 2, 3,4, 5 and we have 60 children in year 6. Teachers within the same year group meet regularly to jointly plan their lessons.
We aim to provide a high standard of education within a caring and secure environment and we have a very committed and hard-working staff to help achieve this. If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s education please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher or call the office to make an appointment.
In addition to our classrooms, we have ICT suites, a music room, a parent community room, and a large outdoor area with a MUGA’ (multi-use games area). We have recently added a new soft surface and climbing wall and have developed a small forest school area.
The curriculum that we provide at Lily Lane is designed to be inclusive of all children and cater to all learning styles. Our committed, hardworking, and talented staff plan lessons that are creative and imaginative, whilst nurturing and developing a love of learning. We place a big emphasis on the teaching of key skills in reading, writing, and maths to ensure that children reach high standards of learning. Our curriculum encompasses the social and emotional aspects of learning and the well-being of children is seen as the foundation of academic success. Our curriculum aims to inspire all children at Lily Lane. We endeavor to capture the interests of each pupil, providing exciting and enriching learning experiences. We encourage children to become independent learners, to ask and answer questions about the world around them to create a love of learning. We offer a curriculum that is balanced and broadly based and which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils at school and in society. We aim to prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of later life.
Personal, Social, and Health Education is taught regularly as part of our curriculum. Also each half term we have a PSHE week where we look at different aspects of social and emotional health such as anti-bullying and friendships. Health issues are also discussed as well as sex and relationship education which will be age-appropriate and in the context of caring relationships. We look after our environment to keep children safe within our grounds and the safety and well-being of our children is the basis of all our school rules and policies.
By the Education Act 2002 and guidance set out in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children, Lily Lane Primary School will work in partnership with other organizations where appropriate to identify any concerns about child welfare and take action to address them.
Lily Lane Primary School’s Safeguarding policy has been developed to ensure that all adults in Lily Lane Primary School are working together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. The policy has been ratified by the Governing Body and is reviewed annually.
Our policy describes the management systems and arrangements in place to create and maintain a safe learning environment for all our children, young people, and staff. It identifies actions that should be taken to redress any concerns about child welfare.
