Lewis Girls’ is a vibrant, caring school with a strong reputation. We have the highest expectations of all our students in all areas of school life. We value learning and aim to make it enjoyable and rewarding through high-quality teaching and care for our students. We have a supportive and inclusive ethos, which values every student as an individual in his/her own right and provides the opportunities for them to achieve their potential. We celebrate students’ achievements and strive to develop a wide range of their talents and interests. We aim to be a harmonious school that fosters mutual respect through working together as a supportive team of students, staff, and governors. Above all, we aim to help students develop their aspirations and be happy. The school provides a broad, balanced, differentiated, and relevant education. We have strong partnership links in the Sixth Form which vastly broaden curriculum choice for post-16 study. For primary school children, we have strong relationships with all our partner primary schools and operate a special program of events and activities to provide continuity and confidence building for your child during transfer. We believe that a sense of good order, based on a sensible code of conduct provides a strong foundation for the life of our community. The support the school enjoys from parents is one of the lynchpins of our success. We value our home-school links and encourage parents to contact the school if they have any queries or worries concerning a child’s education. Lewis Girls' is an 11-18 comprehensive school and currently has almost 900 pupils. The staff is well established and committed to the achievement of high standards and the provision of a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Staff development has a high profile and the school is continually improving. The school has an impressive record of success in academic, sporting, musical, cultural, charitable, enterprise, and social activities extending over many years. Last year over 95% of our 6th form students achieved a grade A* - C at Key Stage 5. The school is well disciplined but friendly, and the quality of staff-pupil relationships is excellent. All pupils are encouraged to give their best and expectations are high. At GCSE, 24% of our learners achieved at least 5 A*/A grades. The school is situated in Ystrad Mynach but its pupils come from a catchment area of approximately 40 square miles. Close links exist between Lewis Girls', Lewis School Pengam, and our feeder primary schools. Also, a significant number of pupils attend the school from out of the catchment area as a result of parents exercising their right of choice of school. Grounds Pitch. We have strong links with our three neighboring schools (Heolddu, Lewis Pengam, and Rhymney) and Coleg Y Cymoedd. These links enable a reciprocal broadening of subject choices for all 6th Form students in the four schools. Many students travel to and from our school, accessing a wide range of subjects within the Consortium. View full school

The vertical curriculum is something that the Comprehensive School prides itself on, the results that have been produced by pupils in years 9, 10, and 11 have been superb. In addition to academic progress, an excellent range of extra-curricular activities, trips, and leadership opportunities are available for our pupils making the Federation a vibrant community in which all are encouraged to develop their talents to the full. This is achieved through charitable work, citizenship projects, sporting activities, culture, and the arts for pupils. These opportunities enhance pupils’ well-being, inquisitiveness, and creativity. At Cymer Afan Comprehensive School, our personalized approach to teaching and learning is at the heart of all that we do and provides opportunities for our pupils to be successful. It is the responsibility of all our employees to assist the Authority to comply with this Policy. To help employees comply, we have produced a Data Protection Policy Guidance Note (‘the Guidance’) which explains in more detail the requirements of the Legislation. Employees must familiarise themselves with both this Policy and the Guidance and apply their provisions to any processing of personal data. Failure to do so could amount to misconduct, which is a disciplinary matter and could ultimately lead to dismissal. Furthermore, serious breaches of the legislation could also result in personal criminal liability for the staff concerned. View full school

- "At Risca Community Comprehensive School all staff are committed to the education and well-being of each child who joins us. As a relatively small school, we get to know all the children quickly, develop their talents and support them as necessary. We aim to maximize potential. We want to make a difference, to make sure that everyone leaves us having achieved academically and having had opportunities to get involved in all the activities we have to offer." We expect this system to improve the services we can offer students and staff significantly, with benefits including improved security for handling cash transactions in the school and a reduction in queuing time This is a technology that is already used successfully by thousands of schools. We have given presentations already to pupils in assemblies. Further information for parents can be found on the reverse of this letter. We would like to make it clear that RCCS will comply at all times with Data Protection Act and with the provisions of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (which comes into force in September 2013) regarding the use of biometric data. For your child to use the biometric system, you will need to sign and return the attached form. We would offer an opportunity to opt-out for those pupils who, upon consideration, would prefer to use alternative forms of identification. We are looking forward to working with you and your child over the next five years. 2012/13 was an outstanding year for the school. We achieved our best results at Key Stage Three for the fourth year running, and just ten days ago we received the GCSE results for last year's Y11 which showed a massive increase of 19% in the number of pupils gaining 5 GCSEs at C or above, and that follows a 10% increase the previous year. The figure for 2013 is an impressive 73%! We made improvements in all major indicators, all but two pupils gained at least five GCSEs, and no one left without qualifications. They were also the best results for the school for the second year running- a credit to students and staff. We sure our new pupils will work hard to ensure the success continues- they certainly started very well today. Over the summer we have completed a lot of work refurbishing parts of the school to make it a more pleasant learning environment, painting, fitting blinds, and replacing old classroom furniture. The refurbishment of the toilets has been delayed but will go ahead this month. We also have a new catering service. View full school

- In our school, we encourage everyone to have the highest expectations of themselves and each other as together we Learn to Lead our Lives. We are proud of our student's academic achievements. Just as importantly, we are a school that cares. We believe that students need to feel comfortable and secure to learn and, as a school, we put as much emphasis on creating a supportive and happy environment as we do on academic success. We achieve both. In 1903 the Haberdashers’ Company erected an Elementary School in Monmouth, which was known as the Jones Endowed School. In 1948 this became Monmouth Secondary School. The school became fully comprehensive in 1977, catering for the age range 11-19, and it has grown considerably since this time. There were 1649 students on roll in September 2012, of whom 354 were Sixth Formers. There were 116 full and part-time members of teaching staff and 36 support staff. The School is situated between the old road to Ross and the town by-pass and faces the pleasant wooded slope of the Kymin. The buildings and playing fields occupy a site of approximately 19 acres. The buildings are in eight main groups. The School Library and Information Resource Centre are open throughout the day and available for all students at breaktime, lunchtime, and after school. It closes at 4.30 pm Monday to Thursday and 4 pm on Friday. Sixth Form students can work in this area at any time and have 18 computers for their exclusive use. In our information-orientated age, competence in the use of IT and learning is increasingly important. The school is equipped with a wireless network to support students in their use of IT to develop learning when and where they require it. The school’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and website provide a portal between the school and home. Students will be able to access resources on the VLE to support them in their learning. Dedicated Sixth form IT learning spaces are provided in the School Resource Centre, Sixth Form Areas, and the Sixth Form Study Room, located in the Pegasus Block. The School aims to promote a healthy, active lifestyle and encourage lifelong participation. The School promotes a sport for all ethos and works hard to keep up with present trends. There are many sporting activities available. These include rugby, soccer, cricket, hockey, basketball, netball, dance, swimming, cross-country, athletics, table tennis, trampolining, badminton, tennis, squash, rowing, canoeing, sailing, volleyball, and golf. The School supports teams of all ages. The School also encourages the pursuit of excellence by offering competitive fixtures. Students representing the School are expected to act in a sporting manner at all times, thereby bringing credit to themselves and their teams. Students are promoted in their pursuit of prestigious sporting honors and over seventy present students have represented the County or Area. Students have full use of the sporting facilities and a Sixth Form pass allows students to access all classes and facilities, including the fitness suite, during holidays and weekends. Many students work for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and related residential weeks are organized at appropriate centers. View full school

Our school is pleasantly located some fifty meters from the sea. The campus is large, pleasant, and attractive with outstanding facilities for study, sport, theatre arts, recreation, and a host of extracurricular activities. In the last Estyn Inspection, the working relationships between our teachers and pupils were judged to be "exceptional and this contributes very well to the positive learning environment of the school". The school is a co-educational school with over 1400 boys and girls aged 11 to 18. More than 160 staff are employed at the school. In particular, our Sixth Form provision is second to none in terms of choice, quality of learning, and pastoral support. Year on year our students’ results at every level have continued to exceed new heights. A happy child is a successful child and happy schooldays depend on the very important partnership between pupils, staff, and parents. A good relationship between home and school is vital to ensure a child’s success and happiness at school. The home-school agreement, features in the pupil’s planner for parents' completion and information, underlines the important partnership between all the partners. Below are the aims we have set out to achieve at Porthcawl Comprehensive School. Provide a healthy, safe, and secure environment that will secure the wellbeing of all, enabling all to engage fully in the school and its community. Ensure that every pupil is encouraged through a variety of learning opportunities to confidently achieve and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in adult life. Ensure that all are happy, healthy, and free from bullying, abuse, or exploitation to achieve their absolute best. Provide opportunities for young people to take part in, develop and enjoy a wide variety of learning, sporting, and cultural activities. Provide an inclusive education that develops all pupils’ personalities, abilities, and moral values, encouraging them to respect other people, cultures, and the environment whilst celebrating their own cultural identity. Ensure that all pupils, regardless of their backgrounds and individual differences, will be valued, and will receive equality of opportunity. Encourage all pupils to participate in decision-making, where their opinions will be valued, considered, and responded to.
- We aim to ensure that each young person has every opportunity to develop the skills, competencies, and personal qualities to help them make the most of their lives and to contribute to their society. We pride ourselves on the development of a happy, productive, and caring learning environment, where every person feels valued. Bryntirion Comprehensive School is a successful, popular and happy school. Today our work is founded on the comprehensive ideal – a belief that all children are of equal value and that it is our task to help develop the abilities and talents that all undoubtedly have. We value every pupil equally. The particular strengths children have to vary from one individual to another. We recognize this and provide a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular experiences to meet the needs of all our pupils. Bryntirion Comprehensive School is an exciting and stimulating place to be, for both its staff and pupils. The quality of our relationships with pupils and their parents is important to us. Flexible in their thinking and able to adapt to a rapidly changing society. Independent in their learning and highly effective in their communication. Inspired with enthusiasm for continued learning and eagerness to succeed. We intend to actively promote continuing learning throughout the whole school community, in which: Happiness and high self-esteem are developed by recognizing success Change is welcomed and fully embraced All demonstrate the conviction that the school is infinitely improvable The role of parents in developing learning is explicit, recognized, and valued Technology is used to develop limitless thinking. Our vision is that as a school community: We will develop a passion for learning rather than an acquisition of knowledge We will develop the desire and aptitude to be inquiring, willing to test and hypothesize, and to take risks We will become creative problem solvers and effective decision-makers We will develop high levels of communication skills We will achieve this by defining our role as: Inspiring students with curiosity by our example Developing in our students the capacity to ask questions rather than providing answers Recognizing and celebrating the achievement of all students Identifying and maximizing the full potential of our students.
