Lochend Community High School, which opened in 1963 as Lochend Secondary, amalgamated with Westwood Secondary in 1988 in the former school buildings. Here at Ysgol Llanybydder, we recognize that a productive home /school relationship is vital, to foster a sense of partnership between parents and teachers and to ensure the best possible learning environment for your child. Consequently, we endeavor at all times to achieve this. Ysgol Llanybydder is a happy school, and this stems from the opportunities that are afforded to all. Built in 1968, the School is set on a five-acre site with two grass pitches. Basketball/netball and a floodlit multi-use court are integrated into the recreation area. We have also recently received funding from the Big Lottery Fund and the PTFA to construct a Gazebo for use as a quiet space at breaktimes and lunchtimes and wider community events. We have recently installed a gazebo that acts as an outdoor classroom, quiet area, all-weather facility, and a meeting place. This was funded through a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, our hard-working PTFA, and other donations. Internally, the school consists of a multipurpose hall around which are our three classrooms. Class 1 is our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Foundation Phase Class. This class has access to the outdoor area and has toilets that are easily accessible from the classroom and the outdoor area. Class 2 (KS2 Years 3, 4, 5 & 6) share a double classroom space that has two direct access doors to outdoor areas. A disabled toilet is situated off the school hall. It is easily accessible from both within the school and the outdoor area. All areas within the school, including the toilet facilities, are cleaned daily by Mr. Willets our caretaker. Daytime security locks are in use from 9.00 a.m. All children or visitors arriving after this time are required to use the office entrance, and access is controlled by a bell. Llanpumsaint School stands in the heart of the beautiful village of Llanpumsaint. The school is surrounded by the wonders of nature which is a means of enriching the pupils’ education and experiences. The school endeavors to nurture the feeling of belonging to a community by participating in events held in the village. At present, there are 32 pupils on the register. The school is classed as a ‘Category A’ school which means that Welsh is the main medium of the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 (KS1), thus ensuring a sound foundation in the language.
