De Salis Studio College is part of The Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust, providing education for learners aged 14 to 19. The College has a clear mission to ensure that young people are equipped with the skills of their chosen pathway, have qualifications to demonstrate their ability, and have real-life experience of the workplace. By accepting their place at the Studio College, learners are embarking on the first stage of their careers in the areas of Criminology, Business, Finance, and Accounting, ICT, or Retail to give them the qualifications and experiences to ensure that they are ‘work ready’ and an asset to any future employer. We are very proud of what has been achieved at De Salis Studio College since opening in September 2014. Our students are creators, rather than consumers, of technology and this empowers them to generate opportunities for themselves within this emerging sector. Our Industry partners have worked to define exactly what attributes, skills, and experiences are required of their future workforce. The Studio offers a curriculum and ethos where students can develop the required additional skills to fill these requirements. We have established three pathways – Coding, Creative, and Entrepreneurship. The pathways reflect the three skills areas in the sector. Students work in project teams to ensure that they have a broad-based of knowledge and experiences. Students at The Studio are not limiting their options by choosing a specialist pathway. Students will complete traditional A-Level and BTEC qualifications. We simply add more and more skills and experiences that will secure their future career. Creative and Digital skills and experiences gained at The Studio will be a passport into careers in many different industries including marketing, education, and science. For students who study at Manchester Creative Studio in Key Stage 4, qualifications gained include all of the core GCSE qualifications you would find at a traditional school, in addition to specialist GCSEs and industry-recognized qualifications in the creative and digital industry. Our popular Level 3 courses, Media - Games Design, Graphic Design, and Media - Film & TV. Personal coaches support the learners using the CREATE framework and ensure each student receives appropriate support. We believe that as well as gaining qualifications, young people need to be encouraged to think creatively, build resilience and be able to respond effectively to rapidly changing circumstances. All students have an individual learning plan supported by dedicated learning coaches and a specialist personal coach. The learning coaches monitor, track and support subject-specific learning and achievement, they agree on the appropriate program and level for each student. The CREATE skills framework has been designed specifically for Studio Schools to ensure students develop a wide range of employability and life skills whilst in education. Through CREATE, students follow a personalized curriculum that meets their individual needs and aspirations, developing transferable skills ready for employment. Our coaches support students throughout their time at MCStudio and ensure that CREATE underpins every element of their journey with us. Coaches play a central role in students’ personal and academic development, setting targets and encouraging and tracking progress. The governors play a very important role in ensuring MCS is following the vision and ethos set out when we opened in 2014. Their expertise and knowledge are invaluable in molding the creative professionals of the future. The Full Governing Body meets at least every term. The three core strategic governance functions set out in the DfE School Governance Handbook are: ensuring clarity of vision, medicine ethos, and strategic direction holding the principal to account for the performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of its staff and overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
