Curriculum: Tawjihi The International Independent School is located on a 26,000 sq meters campus in a residential area. The International Independent School serves nearly 700 students. IIS was established in 2007. It is an accredited Prekindergarten through Twelfth Grade, college-preparatory, coeducational, independent, day school in Amman, Jordan. It is accredited by the Jordan Ministry of Education, Advanced Ed for the American curriculum ( SAT, ACT, AP) and is recognized as an accredited school by Edexcel and Cambridge for the IGCSE and GCE British programs. The school of Terra Santa is one of the two ethnic schools of the Maronite Community. It has its origins in 1641 when a team of Franciscan monks decided to establish a school aiming at the promotion of diligence and virtue. The school operated under the name of Terra Santa (School of the Holy Land) in 1646 under the responsibility and protection of the Order of Franciscan monks which has its base in Jerusalem. In the difficult years of the Turkish occupation of Cyprus, the school offered Elementary education. In 1936 it came into the hands of the British and in 1947 came back under the control of the Franciscan monks and changed its name to Terra Santa College. Previously the school operated in the Paphos Gate area whereas from 1955 the school moved to the whole owned new building in the Acropolis area of Nicosia. Since 1913 the school programs were extended also to secondary education. Since 1970 a nursery is also operating. On 28th January 2013, a cooperation agreement was signed between the University of Cyprus and the Terra Santa College confirming that the College will operate as a model University of Cyprus High School. The school hosted students from all the Maronite villages, especially from Kormakitis, since the Franciscan nuns who maintain a monastery in Kormakitis had direct involvement with the school. Until today the Terra Santa School continues to be the center of education for many Maronite boys and girls. Today the school is divided into three sections: Nursery, Elementary, Gymnasium, and Lyceum. The school of Terra Santa is a multicultural school that promotes diversity and tolerance. Terra Santa has contributed significantly to developing education in this country and that represented a great challenge among the other flourishing institutions in number and quality. Hence, the great efforts showed by the friars and the industrious work to develop their school. In the 1960s the first and second floors on the eastern side were added to accommodate the increasing numbers of students. Then, in the 1980s the church was built. In the year 1992 – 1993 the kindergarten sections were established. to be followed in 1998 by Terra Sancta cultural center, a treat offered by the Franciscan Custody in Jerusalem to our college in Amman, on the occasion of its golden jubilee. Along with the sites of the educational institutions working under the OES umbrella, we hope this serves as yet another open channel of communication to help us provide the best service to our students and the various segments of society which we serve. Established in 1957, OES is one of the oldest societies in Jordan. We are proud to be pioneers in providing humanitarian and educational services to all members of our Jordanian community. Our main focus is on education. The schools we have established include the two National Orthodox Schools in the areas of Shmaisani and Ashrafiyeh, as well as their kindergartens, Wahbeh Tamari Kindergarten and Ashrafiayeh Kindergarten respectively. Thousands of the sons and daughters of our beloved Jordan have graduated from these reputable academic establishments, moving on to serve in various positions, many of them becoming prominent leaders in different fields. As a next step, we are looking into the establishment of a National Orthodox University, with a focus on offering specializations needed by the Jordanian labor market as well as the markets of neighboring Arab countries. This is one of the projects that we are exploring to maximize the benefit for the community from the lands that OES owns in Um Al-Kundum area on the outskirts of Amman. Our society is a national, charitable, non-profit organization par excellence. We are here to serve all, regardless of race or religion, based on our deep commitment to Arab Nationalism. Our sublime mission is to serve as many people as possible from middle and limited-income families in our beloved Jordan. Our society and schools work to instill values of patriotism and model citizenship among all members of the Jordanian family. The other important focus for our work is the humanitarian dimension. We provide financial aid and tuition waivers for many of our students from limited-income families. We also provide financial and in-kind aid to many families through our Winter Charity Campaign and other annual goodwill campaigns. Shortly, we aim to open schools outside the capital, Amman, to spread our services to a larger segment of Jordanian society. Since it was established in 2014, SIA has enjoyed a reputation that qualified it to gain the trust of parents as well as the accreditation of respected educational organizations. In the year 2014, the school has been inspected by the Edexcel accredited visit for Quality Assurance Review. The visit has resulted in accrediting the school by the committee, a fact that urged all the school staff to exert more effort not only to keep what they gained but also to achieve more. Then, opening classes of senior grades, 10 to 12, in the year 2015-2016 encouraged so many students to join the school that the total number increased from 520 in 2015-2016 to more than 850 in 2016-2017. The school was re-accredited by the Accreditation International Organization in 2015 for 5 years based on the new standards of accrediting the American schools. The Ahliyyah School for Girls was established in 1926 by the Christian Missionary Society based in England. It opened its doors with 25 students and a small number of teachers dedicated to the educational process involved in empowering the young women of Jordan. The School soon developed into an academic and cultural landmark that came to reflect the highest standards in Jordanian society. The Ahliyyah School remained faithful to national ideals while maintaining an international perspective. In 1957, the Arab Episcopal Church in Jerusalem took over the administrative responsibilities of the school, furthering its raison d’etre: to empower Jordanian women with knowledge and therefore choice.
