- The International School of Madrid is a leading private British school, conveniently located in the Charmartín neighborhood in the center of Madrid. Since 1971 we have offered an excellent, broad, and balanced education to students from around the world. Now home to over 800 pupils aged between 1 and 18, the school follows the English National Curriculum and is known for its child-centered approach, happy atmosphere, and high standards of academic achievement. We endeavor to be a happy school. One big family where everybody knows each other and lasting friendships are formed. We encourage self-expression, individual ability, and talent, not just academic but also in sports and the arts. We teach children values and to be good and responsible citizens. We opened our doors 48 years ago and are very proud of our long and illustrious history. Founded by Anne Mazón in 1971 as the International Primary School, the school initially had just 38 students and was based in the El Viso neighborhood in Madrid. It was Mrs. Mazón’s philosophy and vision that helped shape and guide the school and which still underpins everything we believe in today. Our job is to educate. And whilst education obviously includes teaching, the former word has a much wider meaning. We attempt to continue and complement the education which children have already begun in their homes, by adding to this professional direction and instruction, attention to the learning process of children, and the transmission of learning skills and techniques so that the student develops the ability to learn independently. ISM encourages children in active rather than passive learning. No amount of book learning can make up for an equal period of the first-hand experience. Education also includes a spiritual and moral dimension. We want our children to become worthy citizens of whatever country they may live in when they grow up. We are educating the - children of different races, backgrounds, and beliefs - to live together in peace and harmony, appreciating and understanding each other's cultures and points of view. Our theme is not 'I teach, you learn.' No! We prefer 'We are all here together to learn from each other'. And the basis of this philosophy is respect - for classmates and companions, mutual respect between adults and pupils, respect for property, for rules, etc. Without respect there cannot be discipline, nor can there be a happy learning environment. Thus there is an important emphasis on these values. At ISM the education of the whole person and education for life is the principal aims around which the curriculum revolves. We want to prepare our students for the world of the 21st Century. We are a British school in Madrid. Our well-qualified and experienced teachers follow the English National Curriculum, which means that students gain an education as if they were in a school in the UK. Classes are taught in English and delivered in the British way. The academic standard of our school is high. 100% of students that graduated in 2018 are currently at university. We recognize that each student is unique and care passionately about their social and moral development. We are committed to providing the best possible start in life for every one of our pupils. - The Complutense University of Madrid is a public research university located in Madrid and one of the world's oldest universities. The university enrolls over 86,000 students and consistently ranks as one of the top universities in Spain. It is located on a sprawling campus that occupies the entirety of the Ciudad Universitaria district of Madrid, with annexes in the district of Somosaguas in the neighboring city of Pozuelo de Alarcón. In recent years, the roster of alumni comprises winners of the Nobel Prize, Prince of Asturias Awards, Miguel de Cervantes Prize, as well as European Commissioners, Presidents of the EU Parliament, European Council Secretary-General, ECB Executive Board members, NATO Secretary-General, UNESCO Director-General, IMF Managing Director, and Heads of State. According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the university is widely regarded as the most prestigious academic institution in Spain. In over seven centuries, the University of Madrid has provided invaluable contributions in the sciences, fine arts, and political leadership. Alumni include renowned philosophers, writers, scientists, historians, military leaders, foreign leaders, and many Prime Ministers of Spain. In 1785, the University of Madrid became one of the first Universities in the world to grant a Doctorate to a female student. By Royal Decree of 1857, the University of Madrid was the only institution in Spain authorized to grant doctorates throughout the Spanish Empire. The origin of The Complutense University dates back to the late 13th century, when Sancho IV of Castile granted the Archbishop of Toledo, Gonzalo García Gudiel, a licence to create the General School of Study in Alcalá (Estudio de Escuelas Generales de Alcalá) in the city of Alcalá de Henares in the spring of 1293. The main building of the Cisnerian University (Universidad Cisneriana) was the San Ildefonso Hall of Residence. In January 1510, Cisneros approved its Constitution, which laid out the rules governing the institution and set every community member's rights and duties. Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, Cardinal, and Archbishop of Toledo, Regent of Castile and alumnus of the General School, established the Complutensis Universitas (the Latin name of Complutense University), through a Papal Bull granted by Pope Alexander VI on 13 April 1499. Cisneros provided the new university with a vast area of rural and urban land to show his support for the university. Along with the San Ildefonso Hall of Residence, several small residences were also founded by Cisneros. Special mention must be made of the San Pedro and San Pablo residences, which belonged to the Franciscan Order, of which Cisneros was a member. The College of the Mother of God (Colegio de la Madre de Dios), subsequently known as the College of the Theologians (Colegio de Los Teólogos), in which studies of theology and medicine were taught Santa Catalina Ode (Arts & Physics) College of San Balbina (also known as the College for Logicians in which the first courses of Art were taught) and The Colleges of San Eugenio and San Isidoro, which merged into the College of San Ambrosio in the seventieth century and was known as for Grammarians (de Los gramáticos) for Latin and Greek language studies. During the second quarter of the sixteenth century, about thirty new schools related to religious orders, military, royal, and private institutions were founded. In the academic year 1509-1510, the Complutense already operated with five primary schools: Arts and Philosophy, Theology, Canon Law, Philology, and Medicine. The university was influenced by Renaissance thought and the ideals of humanism against medieval universities' old conception. To reconcile theology with the principles of the classical period by the guidelines of the Franciscan Order's reform movement, the Cisnerian University intended to recover spiritual values lost during the Middle Ages. Besides, the university focused on training lawyers and theologians, who served the Monarchy, to manage the administration's increasingly complex structure. The prestige of the studies and teachers at the Complutense became the model on which new universities in Latin America would be established. The university's golden era lasted until the seventeenth century, when its decline began due to the Counter-Reformation effects. Up until then, the university had been the core of humanistic thought for the Spanish Monarchy. Enlightenment Reforms unsuccessfully attempted to overcome the decline of the university at this time. Until well into the 18th century, higher education was based on the scholastic method of exposition and debate. To overcome this unsustainable situation, the reform for study programs was proposed in 1770, during the Reign of Charles III, and faced strong resistance from the universities. During the Enlightenment period and according to the Bourbon Monarchy's centralization policy, some new centers were established in which research and specialized education began to share the same space. These included the Cabinet of Natural History (Gabinete de Historia Natural) in 1771, The Royal Botanical Garden (Real Jardín Botánico) in 1755, and the Royal Observatory of Madrid (Real Observatorio de Madrid) in 1790. The outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789 and the subsequent political and social instability that led to the War of Independence and the Age of Absolutism spelled the end of the reforming principles of the Enlightenment.

- Our students today are the professionals of the future. At Universidad Europea, we are aware of the needs of the current environment. We prepare these young people to lead to change in a hyperconnected society under constant change. Change that is only possible in an international, interdisciplinary environment such as at our campus allows students to immerse themselves in the professional world that awaits them from day one. At Universidad Europea, we offer an education that is open to the world, innovative, international, and multicultural. In short, a dynamic education with a spirit of constant improvement is also present on our campus and among our faculty. As Rector of the Universidad Europea, heading up this project allows me to be at the cutting edge of academic quality and take on the challenge that involves understanding, from a comprehensive perspective, how this great institution works in order to educate the best. I take on this challenge with the satisfaction of representing a unique academic community, with a faculty of renowned prestige, whose most significant value is excellence. We have a unique, innovative educational model focused on making the most of student potential, commitment, and exactitude, and measuring and continuously improving educational excellence. An educational model that goes beyond the traditional approach to foster the development of competencies and skills. An education dedicated to personal and professional capacities such as leadership, entrepreneurship, teamwork, creativity, or ethical commitment enriches and completes our students' profile. An example of going one step further than a theoretical education is the fact that our students have access to clinics and hospitals, a HUB at the Alcobendas campus designed to reinforce and promote entrepreneurship, and a Simulated Hospital, a clear example of an innovative and interdisciplinary environment that is so important to help our students train for their future. Universidad Europea is also firmly committed to collaborative research to guarantee that our faculty is updated continuously. Results in recent years endorse our efforts in this field. Our commitment to excellence is also represented by our schools, which are recognized and accredited worldwide. As an example of this daily work, I want to highlight some of the recognitions and awards that mean we are at the forefront: in 2015, the prestigious international QS Stars rating, which classifies the quality of institutions, recognized the excellence of our faculty, our international perspective and the employability of our students, with a rating on par with Cambridge, Oxford and Harvard and our School of Architecture, Engineering and Design obtained NAAB accreditation, the first Private School of Architecture in Spain and in the European Union to do so. Our Physical Activity, Sport, and Physical Therapy department have also achieved international accreditations such as WCPT and EHFA. In Social Sciences, our Bachelor's degree programs can be completed at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science. Our faculty also has ACBSP accreditation for our Business degree programs. We are the only Spanish member institution of an international network of universities: Laureate International Universities, which has higher education institutions over the five continents and over one million students. Being part of a great, global family affords our student's countless opportunities for periods of study abroad, exchanges, and internships abroad. As for Universidad Europea, almost one-third of our students come from abroad, and we are the second largest destination university in Madrid. As a Laureate International Universities Network member, we are also connected to over one million students at 70 universities across the world. Our international outlook makes us stand out from the rest. We offer an education that is open to the world. And the best example of this international trend is the Erasmus+ program, which has increased the number of foreign Bachelor's degree students in the Spanish University System tenfold. According to a recent study by the CyD Foundation marking the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus+ program, Madrid is one of Spain's regions that attracts the most international students. One key that makes Madrid unique is the innate hospitality it offers international students choosing the city as the destination for their studies. Most want to come back after their academic experience and are our best ambassadors when returning to their countries. There are many reasons to justify that Madrid is one of the best destinations for studying in Spain and Europe.
