We provide a secure and caring environment where children are comfortable and most important of all, happy. We have high expectations of every one of our pupils in an educational and social capacity. Durand Primary School was opened in 1973 and was original of an open plan design. However, during the 1991/92 academic year the building was completely remodeled into separate classrooms. Further remodeling took place in 2003 when all external doors and windows were replaced with a modern, safe and colorful system. Safeguarding of our pupils and staff is of paramount importance to us. Below is a link to a safeguarding video that shares Monmouthshire’s and Durand’s message about Safeguarding. In September 2008, the school saw the opening of a new nursery unit adjacent to the main entrance at the side of the school. The nursery is a 60 place nursery, 30 pupils in the morn…

In all we do we aim to display... Love, Kindness, Joy, Self-Control, and Faithfulness. Our Christian values permeate the life of the school. As we go through the day the children and adults aim to live out these values, deepening their meaning and showing them in many practical ways. We ensure that diversity and difference are celebrated. Each week we spend time together as a school celebrating those children who have particularly shown these values in their attitude and behavior at school. We celebrate the children being punctual and having overall good attendance too and a prize is given for best punctuality and also best attendance. The Reception classes…

The school’s caring ethos is at the heart of all we do. We seek to nurture the ‘whole child’ for the time they are entrusted to us. Alongside academic progress, it is equally important to us that the children are given opportunities to develop their social skills, self-esteem, and independence. Our Ofsted Report comments that “the school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding.” It also noted that “Their attitudes are shaped by the school’s position as a ‘rights-respecting school.” As a primary school, we have the responsibility of laying the foundations for life-long learning. Watching the children’s progress throughout school and s…
