  1. At Marlborough Junior School we believe that the primary phase of education is the most important in a child's learning journey. It is a time when we aim to nurture in all our children a lifelong love of learning. Everyone at Marlborough Junior School is committed to providing a caring and friendly school, a happy place to learn because happy children make engaged learners who will become equipped with the skills to achieve their very best. We encourage children to think for themselves, placing emphasis on problem-solving, decision making, and becoming independent learners. Children's enthusiasm for learning is fostered, as is their pride in their achievements and pride in the school community. Individual efforts are valued and celebrated in an atmosphere that encourages self and mutual respect. Confidence in a school comes from knowing and understanding what is happening within it. We hope you will take advantage of the opportunities throughout the year to visit the school on occasions such as class assemblies, ‘Celebration' assemblies, parent/child workshops, as well as parents evenings. Marlborough Junior School aspires to be easily accessible to parents. A successful school is one where there is a partnership between school and home. When children join our school, they will enjoy themselves, thrive, and achieve their best in our stimulating, learning environment. We use every opportunity to provide motivating activities which will stretch your child's imagination and allow them to learn through first-hand experiences. Our vision is to develop a school community where children can enjoy a welcoming, secure, happy, and healthy environment, where all members can develop self-confidence, self-esteem, self-motivation, independence, compassion, tolerance, and understanding of others. By The Department for Education, we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races, and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. At Marlborough Junior School, we believe in creating a stimulating environment that allows all our children to learn in a way that motivates and interests them through inspirational learning activities and high-quality teaching. Our creative curriculum at Marlborough revolves around the Cornerstones Curriculum. The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the new 2014 Primary National Curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Our new curriculum will be delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) which will provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning. We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively, and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum.

  4. Marks Gate Junior School is a special place full of learning, laughter, and friendship and where children are happy, feel safe, and are valued. At Marks Gate Junior School, we aim to provide the best possible education in a stimulating and creative environment. The school develops a love for learning inspired by high-quality teaching and developing and building upon individual strengths and talents. We expect all children in our school to reach age-related levels, in line with national expectations, as a minimum and work hard to ensure barriers to learning are removed so that every child reaches their full potential. Children educated at Marks Gate should be curious, committed, and confident. We encourage a positive partnership between pupils, home, school, and the wider community. The school values and has a strong relationship with its community. The children in our care develop into individuals who are honorable and fair they are persevering and will lead happy and rewarding lives. At Marks Gate Junior School we use the Success For All Literacy strategy. Success For All is a whole school improvement strategy focused on consistent, dynamic, and exciting teaching and learning of literacy. All learning in literacy lessons is done cooperatively meaning children work in teams of four, or with a partner, to discuss and explore their ideas. Pupils are grouped into classes according to their stage of learning in reading comprehension. This allows children to receive the teaching and learning they need at the appropriate level and with the correct amount of challenge needed to enable them to make accelerated progress. Success for All is one of only 19 programs across the world identified by Graham Allen in a significant HMI Report that is 'proven to work'. It is built on forty years of research into the psychology of learning and has been successful in improving the learning outcomes for children across the world. Children are assessed regularly after eight-week cycles of instruction and then regrouped to ensure they make rapid progress towards their Age Related Expectations and beyond. It is our aim at Marks Gate to ensure all children love literacy, experience working collaboratively, and build their confidence, understanding, and ability when reading and writing. At Marks Gate Junior School we use the Abacus Maths Scheme. Abacus is a unique maths toolkit that’s carefully crafted to help teachers inspire a genuine love of maths and help every child master mathematical concepts. It is built on research into successful teaching in the UK by a team of expert authors and teaching practitioners to help teachers ensure mastery of skills for all. We use Assessment resources and tools to help us to track children’s attainment and their progress towards Age Related Expectations. We aim to instill confidence and ensure understanding and progression for every child. Our Special Educational Needs co-ordinator for the Infant School is Ruth Lansdowne and for the Junior School is Ruth Mercer. Both are Na SENCo accredited. Governors with responsibility for SEND are Pauline Wincott for the Infant School and Kim Rohm for the Junior School. Every pupil at Marks Gate has the opportunity to follow all National Curriculum subjects. We are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between SEND and non-SEND pupils. We do this through a variety of different provisions which may include after-school interventions, short-term specific interventions, home-school interventions, and other learning interventions developed on an individual needs basis. Our school council provides an opportunity for children to have a voice and understand that their opinions matter. It also provides a basis for active learning of life skills such as speaking and listening, problem-solving and encourages them to voice an opinion and express their feelings about issues. At the start of the year, each class is asked for a class representative for the school council. Children can give a short speech to explain why and how they would best represent their class. The class votes and the child is chosen. The representatives from each class form the school council. When we arrived we were very quiet to make sure that we didn’t disturb anybody else who was using the library. Marcus works in the library and he told us how important it is to take care of books. Can you remember some of the ways to take care of books? Daisies Class looked at the children’s books and children with a library card took books home. Do you have a library card? What library books have you borrowed? Finally, we all listened carefully whilst Marcus read us a funny story. When learning about our topic ‘Head to Toe’, Daisies Class have been using playdough to make their faces and the faces of their friends. 12. Welcome to Marian Vian's website. I hope you find it informative but, more importantly, it aims to show the energy, enthusiasm, and determination of the children and all the adults that help continue to make our school a happy and successful place to learn. The school is larger than average for a primary school but has a strong, tight-knit community feeling where every child's efforts are valued, curiosity is fostered and a myriad of exciting experiences are undertaken in a disciplined, respectful atmosphere. The varied and stimulating experiences that are provided endeavor to make learning fun and memorable whilst always striving for the highest possible standards. I hope the information on our website provides you with an insight into the life of our great school. The mission statement is underpinned by the following values: Always striving for excellence Communication Personal growth and development Respect Collaboration Leadership Integrity The staff works together to ensure that children in each year group follow an appropriate curriculum and that this builds on what has been experienced in the previous class. As far as possible we try to start from the children's experience and extend it. This may involve educational outings and school journeys. Our teachers strive to develop the children's enthusiasm and interest as a basis for learning. Praise and encouragement can do wonders for a child's self-confidence, which has a major impact on progress and development. Children's work is displayed attractively throughout the school. This not only gives due recognition of the efforts and abilities of all children but also acts as a stimulus to others, motivating them to greater levels of achievement. We continually try to improve the standard of education by reviewing areas of the curriculum, methods of teaching, assessment procedures, and programs of work. Future planning is determined by our School Improvement Plan which encompasses all aspects of our teaching. The aims of our curriculum are: To promote spiritual, moral, cultural, social, and physical development of the children To help children acquire the knowledge, skills, and practical abilities which will meet their needs now and in the future. To develop in children a sense of respect for themselves and for others and the ability to co-operate with others. To develop a confident, positive and enthusiastic attitude to life in and out of school. To develop in children an awareness and sensitivity to others' feelings, beliefs, and ideas. To help each child to acquire a set of moral values, self-confidence, and attitudes consistent with high standards of behavior and the development of self-discipline. 13. This is achieved by providing: AMI teaching training for age levels 0-3 years, 3-6 years, and 6-12 years A school located at several sites serving children from 2 to 12 years Short courses and workshops aimed at parents and anyone interested in supporting the lives of children Promotion and support of outreach projects underpinned by Montessori principles We are affiliated with the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). The MMI is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all children, staff, and visitors. We adhere to our safeguarding policy which is regularly reviewed. Children in Montessori follow their interests, wherever that passion leads giving them strong academics, leadership, self-discipline, responsibility, independence, initiative, and a lifelong love of learning. Children are innately interested in learning about the world around them and through their natural curiosity can develop themselves. By providing an environment that supports natural development, Montessori education enables children to develop the fundamental capacities that they need to become happy and fulfilled adults who contribute to society. Authentic Montessori environments encompass the following principles: Mixed-age groups not only offer a wide range of activities to spark children’s interest but also enable children to learn from others and learn by helping others. Freedom for children to work at their own pace, without interruption, choosing from a range of activities that are developmentally challenging and appropriate. Exploration is encouraged so that children find things out for themselves, make mistakes and correct them independently. Respect for each child as an individual personality with unique talents. Respect for others, the community, and the environment. An AMI Montessori teacher has a deep understanding of child development and has been thoroughly trained to guide children towards productive and challenging experiences, both individually and collectively, that will provide a firm foundation for their future. We are one of around 50 Montessori Training centers in the world, and the only one in the UK, which delivers the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Diploma, an internationally recognized qualification based on the authentic approach to Montessori education. The courses delivered by the Maria Montessori Institute have evolved directly from those first delivered by Dr. Montessori and her son Mario between 1919 and 1951. We are proud of the academic excellence of our courses, which are delivered by highly qualified trainers who have all undertaken the AMI Trainer of trainers program after substantial experience working with children. The Maria Montessori Institute runs exemplar Montessori schools in London where children aged 2 to 11 experience the Montessori approach delivered by AMI-trained teachers. On-going professional development and mentorship ensure that teachers are actively engaged in reflective practice to maintain the highest level of authenticity. View full school

  16. Our school began serving the local Catholic community in 1830 under the direction of Marie Madeleine D'Houet, founder of the religious order, the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ). The sisters are still involved in our school today, serving on our Governing Body and contributing to the spiritual life of the school. Our vision is that FCJ schools are communities of personal academic excellence. Strong in companionship, the unique giftedness of every person in these faith communities is recognized, nourished, and celebrated. Our hope and expectation are that, through God's grace, working in us all, each young person grows into their best self, with a zest for life and the generosity and confidence to use their talents and gifts in the service of others. Our school is underpinned by our mission - growing together through Christ with courage, confidence, and dignity. Maria Fidelis is a Roman Catholic school for families who would like their child’s faith to be nurtured and supported. The majority of our students are from Catholic families but we welcome applications from parents who value Christian education and feel able to support the Catholic ethos of the school. We have a formal uniform and behavior policy as we believe that children and young people flourish best in the security of clear boundaries. We expect that the majority of students will follow a traditional, academic curriculum. The ablest are identified early in Year 7 and are allowed to study Latin. They are also mentored by graduates from Russell Group universities, who monitor their progress and coach them for higher education. Maria Fidelis regularly exceeds national and Camden averages in progress and attainment indicators. We are committed to providing enrichment experiences for all students and make regular use of the excellent local opportunities available to us, as well as offering national and international visits. These include: Mentoring from City businesses such as Deloitte Opportunities to work with academics from leading scientific institutions and university departments Links with schools in France, Belgium, Germany, and Italy Clubs ranging from debating to street dance Trips to Oxford and Cambridge from Year 9. Our pupils have a very diverse level and range of needs and we aim to work together with all stakeholders to meet those needs and promote learning. Mapledown School is Barnet’s only secondary school for students with Severe and Profound Learning Disabilities (including Autism) and we have spaces for up to seventy-nine students organized into eleven classes in three distinct ‘Learning Zones’. All students have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or are admitted on an assessment basis. We have developed strong partnerships with families and carers and will always place the needs of students at the heart of all we do. We currently have 72 pupils on role situated in eleven class groups. Each class team has one teacher with three or four Learning Support Assistants. These class groups are located in ‘Learning Zones’. There are two classrooms in Zone One which support pupils with Severe Learning Disabilities Zone Two’s four classes cater to pupils on the Autistic Spectrum and Zone Three is focused on pupils who have Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities. The school has a full-time Nurse and Physiotherapist and pupils have access to an integrated service offered through Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Music Therapy, Pediatric Doctors, Dietician, Social Services, and specialist peripatetic teachers as required (eg Visual or Hearing Impairment). The school is a registered ‘Regional Training Centre’ for the M.O.V.E Programme – this is a school-wide system for assessing and promoting physical independence skills. Mapledown is located next door to a ‘mainstream’ secondary school and some of our pupils attend integrated lessons there or use their school facilities – eg technology room, sports hall, library, etc. The school is organized into two Departments – Key Stage Three and Post Fourteen and we deliver a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum based around the National Curriculum. Each pupil is assessed using ‘P Scales’ and progress is monitored and evaluated through Key Personal Learning Targets. The school maintains daily contact with parents and carers through a system of Home –School Diaries and we hold Coffee Mornings every half term for parents to come into school. A number of our pupils regularly use the overnight respite facilities offered by Social Services and where this is the case we maintain the same level of links as with the home. All pupil progress is reported at Annual Reviews. Parents can call the head directly and the school maintains an open door policy. Mapledown is a place of learning for all members of the school's community a learning organization. 22. At Maple Walk Prep School, we consider the relationship between school and parents to be very important. It is an invaluable partnership with the common goal of seeking to achieve the best for the children in terms of stimuli, challenges, experiences, and positive achievement. An open policy of reporting and dialogue is essential. Our aim is that children leave Maple Walk confident and articulate, with the knowledge that they have achieved their academic and personal potential with an excellent work ethic, ready for the next phase of their education. To provide first-class education at the lowest sustainable cost. Setting high expectations for each child’s individual learning and development. Using a knowledge-based approach in preparing children both for public examinations and for the rest of their life. Using a not-for-profit ethos and a model for running schools makes us as affordable as we can be to as many people as possible. Our values derive from a broadly Christian ethos, with obligations of courtesy, helpfulness, and openness. Starting with strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, to instill a love of learning in children through an inspiring and broad curriculum. To teach pupils in a way that allows them to fulfill their potential and to grow towards maturity and self-confidence. To instill habits of effective learning and good behavior at an early age. To deliver value for money and maintain strong links with our parent body. To nurture and inspire. Maple Walk Prep was founded in 2004 by the New Model School Company. The aim was to give parents a greater choice by providing a first-class traditional education with a focus on developing a positive attitude to learning. The NMS aim is to provide rigorous and effective teaching at a low fee, to bring independent schooling within the means of more parents. The NMS focus is on excellence in the knowledge-based teaching of the core subjects of English and Maths, plus excellence in all other subjects including Science, Language, History, and Geography. All our children also enjoy Drama, Art, Music, and Sport. NMS currently runs two low-fee independent primary schools in London. Maple Walk is a new, inspiring, innovative, and practical space that incorporates a host of eco-credentials, making it a fun environment in which to learn and play. Inside we have just what we need:12 classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, a creative arts space, and administrative offices and storage. All classes have an interactive whiteboard. Outside there is an all-weather soft surface for play and a climbing wall. Also, the Reception class area is separated to allow free flow outside play with a Wendy house, sand and water play, and bikes. A more reflective area has been created on the upper playground for children to gather in small groups to chat or read. To extend opportunities for outside play and sport, the children make extensive use of the nearby Roundwood Park. In the Upper School, pupils use the park at least twice a week for PE. In the summer months, the whole school regularly visits the park for picnic lunches. Maple Walk is housed in purpose-built accommodation and comes with a host of eco-credentials, including a ground source heat pump for our heating and hot water, solar PV panels for electricity, and a growing sedum roof to attract local wildlife. In 2014 we launched Core Knowledge, a comprehensive and new knowledge-based curriculum, which has been adapted over several years by the research group Civitas from the US original, devised by ED Hirsch. The new Primary National Curriculum (England, Wales, and Northern Ireland) is inspired by the Hirsch approach. Core Knowledge goes beyond the limits of the National Curriculum, offering children access to additional content that is both challenging and engaging. We want more for our pupils, so we have further tailored Core Knowledge to align with our vision and values. This new curriculum, which starts in Year One, epitomizes all that we believe in. Building upon the key skills and areas of learning we offer children from Reception onwards, we impart to every child a first-class knowledge-based education in the arts and sciences. Our curriculum and teaching methods aim above all at the transmission of knowledge, which we believe is the best way to inspire a child with the thirst for a wider and deeper understanding of the world. It lays the foundations for an expanding grasp of a wide range of subjects later on in education. View full school
