- Monken Hadley CE Primary School school is built on the edge of the beautiful Monken Hadley Common at the northern tip of the London Borough of Barnet. Monks founded Monken Hadley in the 13th century and a school was built by the Church of England in partnership with the government in 1832. The Common leads to Hadley Woods which used to be part of Enfield Chase. Royalty hunted here and in 1777 King George the 3rd passed an act of parliament giving the villagers local farming rights. From the small one-class beginning, this small school has grown so that now there are 150 children housed in 5 classes. Increasingly diverse in culture, the school represents the richly varied community in High Barnet and the surrounding area. The school enjoys a strong partnership with the parish church of St Mary the Virgin. The children and staff attend church services there on the major Christian festivals in the church calendar. The school badge features our church tower and its famous 'cresset beacon'. Our Christian ethos inspires us to develop a positive embracing community that promotes a love of learning through collaborative endeavor. We are committed to including children and staff from a rich variety of backgrounds, faith, social circumstances, and ability. Pupils are encouraged to develop self-belief, a positive attitude, and experience a sense of pride in the achievements of themselves and others. We want our children to grow into respectful, confident, and happy young people who are prepared for the next phase of their education. Our aim at Monken Hadley is to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that engages children and stretches them to achieve all that they can. We follow the National Curriculum (2014) in all subject areas. To meet the requirements of the National Curriculum (2014) we use a range of resources and schemes of work to deliver interesting and engaging lessons. As our classes are mixed-age groups, parts of the curriculum are taught on a cycle to ensure that children do not repeat topic areas. Please refer to the curriculum maps for further details.
