  1. The Stony Brook School is an independent college preparatory school (grades 7-12) that exists to challenge young men and women to know Jesus Christ as Lord, to love others as themselves, and to grow in knowledge and skill, in order that they may serve the world through their character and leadership. Founded in 1922 with the motto "Character Before Career," The Stony Brook School seeks to educate students in matters of the mind, body, and heart. Students are challenged to become leaders with integrity, and virtue character development is considered an essential component of the educational process. While students are presented with the gospel of Jesus Christ, they are free to maintain their personal spiritual beliefs. For over 90 years, The Stony Brook School has been putting character before career. This is another way of acknowledging that we are human beings—and not human doings. We recognize that a career is essential. Our graduates regularly gain acceptance to the most selective colleges and universities globally, and they are significantly impacting their communities through their giftedness. That said, we believe that our achievements only speak to one facet of who we are. Stony Brook's education is designed to help students flourish, which means to be in a period of highest productivity, excellence, or influence. We believe this flourishing comes through careful attention to character, which a wise person once defined as "who you are when no one is looking." At The Stony Brook School, we are not afraid to ask our students big questions: Who are you? What do you care about most? What is your purpose in this world? We believe the answers to these questions help shape the character and give students the confidence to become all they were designed to be. In short, we give our students space, the opportunity, and the support to explore life's big questions while also helping them fulfill the demands of their rigorous academic course of study. We can do this only because of the quality and depth of our faculty. Our faculty comprises master teachers, coaches, and mentors. Their experience is routinely sought after by other schools to train their teachers on how to teach. In addition to their degrees and expertise, what is most compelling about our teachers is the extent to which they care for their students. SBS teachers make themselves available to their students above and beyond the school day's constraints and are dedicated to their students' success. They are mentors, role models, and the kind of people who genuinely want to spend time with young adults. The Stony Brook School offers a genuinely outstanding college preparatory education, unparalleled among boarding and day schools in the northeastern United States. To learn more about the distinct features that set us apart, we encourage you to spend some time browsing this site. You will find information about our commitment to academic excellence, our mission, our ideal location, our close-knit, our excellent college placement record, diverse community...and much more. This is not to say that we are not committed to a high standard of excellence in classroom teaching—quite the opposite. Instead, our rich and textured classroom learning experiences serve as a jumping-off point in our "whole student" approach to education. Because we are a boarding school, our students can engage in various subject matters with their teachers in diverse environments and circumstances. It is not at all unusual to see a student and her teacher lingering for a conversation about that day's teaching or tomorrow's test as we filter out of the dining hall after a meal or in a dorm lounge once the day is done. Our classes regularly travel together to off-campus events and cultural destinations that add new layers of nuance and enrichment to in-class lectures and discussions. Lessons learned in our arts, and athletics programs are brought back to our academic buildings, and vice versa. Frequent chapel services allow our students to digest and reflect upon the week's teaching in a context of spiritual investigation and restoration. The everyday life of a typical middle school or high school student has its ups and downs. However, there is one constant worth noting here at The Stony Brook School—and that is the unparalleled level of personal attention each student receives from our outstanding faculty. Because we are a boarding school, each of our teachers lives either in a dorm or in a house surrounding our 55-acre campus. This arrangement means that teaching here is more than just a job; it truly is a way of life. And our students are not just coming to school. They are coming to a home away from home. 3. Our vision is to inspire all children with a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge. We want our children to become outstanding future citizens who are confident, resourceful, resilient, and responsible. Our mission is for all pupils to be equipped with the necessary tools to be successful in the next stage of their life. At MBA the standard of education is high. Teachers are committed to ensuring that the curriculum is engaging and stimulating, providing a variety of learning experiences that enhance the young lives of our pupils. The children are eager to learn and want to do well and are proud of their achievements. Teachers have a real passion for raising the achievement of their pupils. All staff has high expectations, this results in pupils rising to the challenge, working hard, and consequently making accelerated progress. Pupils enjoy coming to school! We are proud of the positive relationships between pupils and staff. At MBA we promote the enjoyment of learning through exciting and engaging lessons. During the year we wish to extend values education to looking at individuals and groups that have demonstrated that they have the values that we feel make a good citizen. Pupils, parents, and staff worked together to decide upon values that we all thought led to us being caring, respectful citizens. Values are things we believe in that help us to make the best decisions about how to behave. They are the principles that guide our lives. Some values are quite tricky to understand and difficult to do every day others are easier to spot and simpler to do. Values Education is not just something that helps you to learn when you are younger it is a set of tools that you will carry with you all your life. Understanding values will help you to make difficult decisions even when you are a grown-up. Our curriculum has been designed to meet the needs of our pupils. We see that basic skills are an essential element to children’s progress, without the foundations of basic skills it is difficult to build upon and make progress. As a result, all children have a daily basic skills lesson. We have designed medium-term plans with benchmarks for the children to reach at the end of each year. Basic skills lessons consist of the four operations in maths, phonics, grammar and spelling in literacy and also handwriting.
  4. We tell our children to 'reach for the stars and that's exactly what we do! It is our firm belief that we are capable of so many amazing things and at Mitchell Brook, we ensure our children get the best of as much as we can give them - just to inspire greatness. For us, we must give our children as many experiences as possible to ensure that they are well equipped to succeed in today's rapidly moving society. Our curriculum is carefully designed with the children's specific needs and interests in mind. As a result, our children have the opportunity to experience visiting many different places both locally and further across the country, they work with an author every year, have the opportunity to experience visiting a West End theatre at least twice, have regular instrumental sessions, and much, much more. Our expectations are consistently high not just from ourselves as educators but of the children and families that are part of our community as well. As you will see, Mitchell Brook is very much about community. It is about forming sound and positive relationships built on mutual trust. We have many opportunities for home and school to work closely together. At Mitchell Brook, our vision is for all our children to be confident, self-believing, life-long learners. Through high expectations, the children will develop sound skills for life that include excelling at learning and deepening their understanding of our star values. Through this, we will create global citizens for the 21st century. Create and provide an environment where curiosity is welcomed, inquiry encouraged and excitement of learning is fostered. Provide equality of opportunity to encourage and motivate the children and our community, to have high aspirations and expectations of themselves and others. Promote an understanding, tolerance, fairness, and respect for others. Value families and the wider community and see a strong, positive relationship as integral to the success of our school. Our learners have the opportunity to learn through an integrated approach in which other learning experiences such as trips, visitors, shows, etc are pivotal to the learning experience as a whole. Essentially, we see learning as fun and work hard to make it so! We reinforce our core STARS values to further encourage the children to succeed in becoming successful and confident life-long learners. Successful, Team focused, Team, focused, Respectful, Spirited. At our school, we are very proud to have a diverse school community in which many languages, cultures, and religions learn together. We try to enhance the life of each child, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to take a full part in society both now and in the future. We promote understanding, tolerance, fairness, and respect for others. At Mitchell Brook, working with children and their families and the wider community is seen as an integral part of our school. We know how important it is that this partnership is a strong one. We have exemplary extended services and also provide a lot of extra support for our parents. Within school, our pupils are actively encouraged to make choices and take responsibility for these choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we have a responsibility to provide boundaries and safety for children through rules and regulations but also give them opportunities to make mistakes and to learn from their experiences. Our Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through E-Safety lessons. Whether it be through choice of learning challenges, of how they record a piece of learning, or through participation in our range of extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices. Respect forms one of the school STAR values and this is reinforced in expectations of all members of the school community. Children learn that their behaviors affect their rights and those of others and all members of the school community are expected to treat each other with respect. Mitchell Brook is situated in a culturally diverse area and there is a strong history and philosophy within the school of celebrating cultural diversity. Our programs of assemblies (including class extravaganzas) promote and encourage an understanding and acceptance of different faiths and beliefs through stories and celebrations from a variety of faiths and cultures. Religious Education, Personal Development, and RRSA teaching reinforce this. In RE lessons, members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school, and classes visit places of worship that are important to different faiths. At Mitchell Brook, the curriculum is engaging, relevant, stimulating, and inspiring. This develops the inquiring ‘minds of tomorrow’ into forward-thinking, problem-solving, understanding, and confident potential leaders. By providing a holistic learning experience today, pupils are equipped with the skills to become the professionals of the future. This vision for our curriculum underpins all the learning that takes place in our school. Our high expectations drive pupils to raise their expectations, in learning, in their social interactions, and ultimately in their lives. We encourage independent learning and self-reflection to prepare our students for a future we cannot see while ensuring their academic excellence and well-being remain our highest priorities.
  5. Cringle Brook is part of Kingsway Community Trust, which also consists of Green End Primary in Burnage and Ladybarn Primary in Withington, both of which are also Ofsted Graded Outstanding. As part of the Trust, Cringle Brook will benefit from strong links with these two schools. As Executive Headteacher of the Trust, I am passionate about enabling all children in our local communities to have the very best possible educational opportunities and I have extremely high expectations of all the children, both in terms of their academic achievement and their emotional and social development. As the Admissions Authority for the community and voluntary controlled schools in Manchester, the LA is required to draft, consult on, and determine their admission arrangements. Where there are more applicants than places available the LA will apply the admission arrangements to decide which applicants will be offered places. Admission arrangements for voluntary aided schools, foundation schools, free schools, and academies are set by their Governing Body, which is the Admission Authority for their establishment. They are responsible for drafting, consulting on, and determining their admission arrangements. Copies of admissions arrangements for these types of schools/academies in Manchester can be found on the school/academy website and the LA’s website. They are also available on request from the relevant school/academy and the LA. All parents/carers are required to apply to their home LA regards of where the school/academy they are applying to is situated. Manchester residents will apply to Manchester LA. The LA will liaise with other Admissions Authorities in Manchester and other LAs where required. Manchester LA will inform parents/carers in writing of the outcome of their application. The curriculum we provide at Cringle Brook Primary is tailor-made to give all children a thirst for learning, a motivated engagement in school, and the best chance to attain high academic success. There is a strong emphasis on developing confidence and skills to be excellent communicators in all situations. The school has a very strong sense of community, with nurture and strong relationships at its core. The Cringle Brook curriculum is based on the effective approaches developed at both Ladybarn and Green End schools that have seen a marked improvement in both pupil achievement and progress against national and local benchmarks. It is created based on capturing children’s interest and imagination through all subjects. It draws on relevant learning experiences and involves a significant level of first-hand experiences for all children. The learning will challenge all children across the breadth of academic areas. There is a strong emphasis on the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics. Both the basic skills curriculum and the wider learning opportunities and experiences are individually designed by our staff for our school and our children. This ensures that the children are highly motivated and inspired by a tailor-made curriculum that fully meets their learning needs. A focus on first-hand experiences ensures that children can move from the concrete to the abstract in their learning, applying skills and learning to different challenges. The children will develop excellent communication skills which will enhance their learning in Literacy and also lead to them becoming confident and articulate 11-year-olds, able to speak confidently in a range of formal situations. All children are fully nurtured and supported to ensure that they are equipped with the skills to succeed highly in secondary education and beyond. Weekly philosophy time takes place in years 1 and 2 where the children express thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental way. There is a strong emphasis on oral communication throughout the curriculum and around the school. We value pupil's voices and take termly surveys. We have consulted the children with regards to the Outdoor grounds developments. We take children on local and further afield trips and promote appropriate positive behavior for trips. Our behavior policy is understood by all the children and used consistently by all adults in school. It is a visual tool using a traffic light system. It is based on a system of rewards and consequences but also putting things right when the wrong choices are made. For individual pupils, we use a positive report to encourage pupils to make the right choices. During the topic on People Who Help Us, the children were visited by the Police and Fire Service. We use specific nurture interventions to support children who need extra help with appropriate responses to a range of situations. In PSE lessons, a range of stories are used which explore dilemmas, conflict, and resolution, and the children are actively involved in making decisions and giving their opinion about the storyline. The school ethos is very strong and shared and understood by adults and children. The children in all classes take responsibilities very seriously for the monitor jobs around the class. The nurture programs, which target individuals and small groups, develop self-esteem and confidence.

  7. A very warm welcome to the Brook Special Primary School. Our school is part of the Broadwaters Inclusive Learning Community which means that we share our values, vision, ethos, and aspirations with the Willow Primary School, Broadwaters Children’s Centre, and the Broadwaters Extended School Service. What’s more, we share a groundbreaking state-of-the-art building. Our inclusive approach means that pupils live together in an aspirational learning environment where every need is met. Our pupils are aged 4 – 11 and have a range of needs such as Autism severe and complex learning difficulties as well as associated physical, medical, and emotional needs. This means that they need a safe, specialist environment to help them learn and reach their potential. Laughter, excitement, and enthusiasm are evident in all aspects of our school life. Our emphasis on communication, creativity, physical and personal development means that our pupils develop into self-confident learners who are rightly proud of themselves and their achievements. We aim to enable our pupils to move confidently onto the next stage of their lives. To achieve this, we have created a school and inclusive learning community where: Outstanding teaching and learning are central to everything we do and are challenging, rewarding, and fun. The school is full of laughter, light, excitement, and enthusiasm. The curriculum is continuously reinvented by a learning community that is committed to meeting the needs of our pupils. Communication is central - every pupil will leave the school with an individualized system of communication which can be non-verbal, signed, or verbal. Creativity is placed at the center of teaching and learning, breaking down the barriers between subjects. A wide-ranging and highly skilled multidisciplinary team works collaboratively with the school to provide access to the curriculum across the range of pupils. The environment and curriculum provide every pupil with the opportunity to grow personally, socially, and academically to be the best they can be and to develop an overwhelming sense of self-confidence and high self-esteem within a stimulating and caring environment. There are clear boundaries and structures set for the pupils, which are well communicated and consistently reinforced. Every child is entitled to enjoy their childhood and is kept safe. The approach across the inclusive community is holistic and one of collaboration, harmony, and trust, creating a safe, supportive environment. Positive images of and attitudes towards all our pupils are developed in the community to access their right to be included in that community. Difference and diversity are valued, understood, embraced, and celebrated and the whole learning community is respected and valued with any discrimination opposed and rigorously challenged. A caring community is based on fair, understanding, and compassionate relationships. The school and the pupils are placed firmly in the mainstream of educational provision and at the center of community life. The Brook Primary Special School is within the same learning community and in the same building as The Willow Primary School and our vision is very simply about children on a continuum of need including those with the most profound and complex of needs, who are learning, living and belonging together in an aspirational learning environment where every child’s needs are met. Haringey is an area rich in cultural diversity, and the Brook community faces all the benefits and challenges of inner-city life from the range of different experiences, cultures, religions, customs, and languages which pupils, parents/carers, and staff bring to the school. Although our children will come from across the Local Authority, we are very much a part of the Broadwaters Inclusive Learning Community (BILC). The Brook offers co-educational day school provision for children with profound, severe, and complex learning difficulties those who have language and communication needs pupils with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), plus associated physical, medical, communication, and emotional needs. This complex range of needs and the inclusive nature of our campus create huge demands on the school’s curriculum to be able to meet the needs of every pupil. The majority of Brook pupils will progress to Riverside as their secondary special school and most of them will then move to the Sixth Form Centre. Our curriculum promotes and sustains a thirst for knowledge and understanding and a love of learning. It covers a wide range of subjects and provides opportunities for academic, technical, and sporting excellence. It has a very positive impact on all pupils’ behavior and safety and contributes very well to pupils’ academic achievement, their physical well-being, and their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. Respecting and developing ‘pupil's voice’ is at the heart of all that we do at the Brook especially considering that many pupils have communication difficulties or have difficulties with social interaction, which means their voice isn’t always easily heard. The supporting adults at school need to help the pupils find and use their voice and at times act as an advocate on their behalf. Pupils are constantly encouraged and enabled to have a pertinent, enthusiastic, listened to, heard, and influential voice. Their thoughts, opinions, and attitudes are considered throughout every area of the curriculum, and where possible the pupils are given choices and offered opportunities to express themselves. Through art, music, drama, dance, planned PSED sessions and much more the pupils can share as much of their personality as they want to with their peers and support staff.

  11. At Brook House Primary School, we believe that all children and students have a right to an excellent education to give them the best life chances irrespective of race, color, creed, or circumstance. We have high aspirations for our children. We believe that obstacles and barriers, both real and perceived, can be overcome by clear, strategic, and targeted support that creates culture change based on sharing good and outstanding practice, collegiality, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. This underpins our high expectations and actions and drives all the staff to provide opportunities for our children to reach the highest possible levels of attainment and achieve exceptionally well in all walks of life. We are an inclusive, caring school where every child matters. We recognize that all children have talents and abilities to celebrate, and part of our role is to help children to discover these. We challenge and develop our pupils to become curious, autonomous learners who are inspired and stimulated by a rich and varied curriculum that is appropriate to their individual needs. We develop our children’s learning skills and, by setting high expectations and exacting standards, we prepare our children to flourish and have high self-esteem and self-belief. At the core of this ethos is our belief in investing in training and development for pupils to enable them to develop as individuals and professionals to achieve excellence. Through our links with quality tertiary providers, we have access to the most up-to-date research and training at the forefront of educational development. Through effective use of this professional and leadership development, we can provide learning journeys for aspiring professionals at all levels to develop into outstanding practitioners and leaders within our schools. At Brook House Primary School, our values are built on mutual trust and respect for all. We work to ensure that every member of the school community feels valued, and is treated fairly and well. To achieve this, the school's behavior policy sets out how all members of the school can live and work together in a safe, happy, and secure environment. While we do have several rules, the main aim of the Behaviour and Discipline Policy isn't about enforcing these. It is about promoting good relationships so that people can work together with the common purpose of helping everyone to learn, and so that students can become positive, responsible, and increasingly independent members of the school community. The school rewards good behavior, as it believes that this will develop an ethos of kindness and co-operation. The National Curriculum is a set of subjects and standards used by schools so children learn the same things. Academies do not have to follow the National Curriculum but must teach a broad and balanced curriculum including English, Maths, and Science, as well as Religious Education. In the Foundation Stage, the physical development of a child is designated a Prime Area of the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. At Brook House Primary School, we provide children with the opportunity to take part in a range of activities that offer physical challenge, both indoors and outdoors, using a wide range of equipment and resources as they work towards the Early Learning Goals in this area. The curriculum is organized into blocks of years called ‘key stages’ (KS). At Brook House Primary School, we ensure the core British values are reinforced regularly. Brook House Primary School has already gained the Recognition of Commitment (ROC) and Level 1 towards the UNICEF Rights Respecting School (RRSA) Award. Each year, the children decide on their “class charter”, as well as the rights associated with these, and all children contribute to the drawing up of the charters. Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices and take responsibility for these choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we have a responsibility to provide boundaries and safety for children through rules and regulations but also to give our children opportunities to make mistakes and to learn from their experiences. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms, and advised how to exercise these safely, for example, through e-safety lessons. Through our ‘Brook House Five Ways’, children develop core values, (Respect, Responsibility, Aspiration, Honesty, and Kindness). We encourage a community spirit and sense of belonging, where children show respect for each other, understand differences, and have a very clear sense of right and wrong. Children learn that their behavior impacts their rights and those of others. All members of the school community are expected to treat each other with respect. We reinforce our core STARS values to further encourage the children to succeed in becoming successful and confident life-long learners. Successful, Team focused, Team, focused, Respectful, Spirited. In RE lessons, members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school, and classes visit places of worship that are important to different faiths. 13. View full school

View full school

View full school
