At Latymer All Saints our core values of Love, Aspiration, and Service underpin everything that we do. All Saints Catholic Primary School is a school that aspires to high standards and is also a place where the unique qualities of each person are nurtured and developed. In partnership with the Anfield Children’s Centre, we aim to care for and educate children from birth to 11 years old by offering a wide curriculum delivered in good accommodation in the heart of the Anfield community. As a Catholic school, we work closely with the Parish of All Saints, Anfield, and, whilst predominantly serving the families from the parish community of All Saints, the school is an outward-looking school, keen to play a central role in serving the whole of the local community. All Saints takes great pride in being a center for Resourced Provision, taking up to 20 children from the city with severe and complex learning difficulties. This reflects the inclusive nature of the school and the emphasis placed on giving all children the best chance during their earliest years. This year the school has appointed a qualified Forest School leader/teacher, to plan and deliver Forest School sessions to all children attending the school. The children will be taken off-site to a local forest or woodland, where they will have the opportunity to investigate and explore nature and the natural environment. Each session has a clear, structured, planned routine with most activities being child-led with adult support if needed and takes place in all types of weather. The children attending Forest School will be allowed to climb trees, build with natural materials, use real tools and cook on an open fire. Managing risk is central to the Forest School approach and although adults ensure that the location is as safe as reasonably possible, children are encouraged to take appropriate risks as part of the routine. Through these experiences, children will acquire an impressive range of knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes which will benefit all aspects of their lives. Forest School is a type of outdoor learning in which children regularly visit local forests and woodlands. During Forest School sessions there is more emphasis on the investigation of nature and the children have the opportunity to observe the natural environment through all the seasons and in all weathers. Through activities including, camp-fire cooking, den building, whittling, natural art, nature walks, bug hunts, and sensory art, the children have the opportunity to explore and learn from nature, the natural environment, the seasons, and environmental changes. At All Saints that our children should receive a curriculum that provides a range of opportunities, a clear pathway for skill development, and an understanding of the world around them in preparation for challenges ahead. This curriculum should itself be challenging, stimulating, and provide enjoyment for our pupils. It should also allow flexibility so pupils can follow their interests in some depth when the opportunity arises. The school has two accompanying central beliefs about its curriculum. Firstly, that opportunities should be given to children to have first-hand experiences wherever possible our children are out of school a lot. Secondly, visiting partners and specialists make a great contribution to the curriculum, often when they lead to festivals of learning or pupil performances. We will listen to any concerns that you and/or your child may have. If everyone agrees your child will be placed on the SEN list in school. This ensures the SENDco starts the Assess, Plan, Do Review approach. Together we will plan any additional support your child may receive and discuss with you any referrals to outside professionals to support your child’s needs. The Inclusion Team will closely monitor your child’s progress and you will be invited into school 3 times each year for reviews. Your child will be actively encouraged to think about areas of development and how best to develop in these areas in school and at home. Support is in place to address needs and any modifications to this support which children feel may be helpful to them. All Saints Primary School is a mainstream setting where all children are welcome whatever their abilities and needs. We believe that all children should have access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, which is differentiated to meet their individual needs. Our building is accessible to children with a physical disability and we ensure that the equipment used is accessible to all children regardless of their needs. Through Christian teaching, we aim to develop an inclusive learning community, where through strong relationships the achievements of all are celebrated. Under the School Admission Code of Practice 2014, the Governing Body has agreed with the Local Authority and Diocese of Manchester the following procedure for the admission of children to All Saints C of E Voluntary Aided Primary School. Responsibility for admissions is delegated to the Headteacher, in consultation with the Governing Body, Curriculum, Standards, and Policy Committee. If you require a place for a Nursery child, you can come into school any time to pick up one of our school’s admission forms, or you can download the form from our website. Once you have completed the form with as much detail as you can, please bring it back to school with your child’s birth certificate. We will copy the birth certificate and put it in our file together with the completed admission form. This will be considered, following our Admission Policy criteria, along with all other applications received, at the time of decision making which is usually just before Easter. We value how all children are unique and our curriculum promotes respect for the views of each child, as well as for people of all ethnicities, cultures, backgrounds, and personal beliefs. The foundation of our curriculum is the spiritual, social, and moral development of each person, as well as their development in core skills and physical growth. We understand the vital importance of the children widening their experiences inside the school and in the wider environment so that they have improved general knowledge, wider vocabularies, aspirations for future work, and an understanding of how to lead a happy and healthy life. Assessment across the curriculum supports the general principles and procedures set out in the school’s Assessment and Feedback policies as well as within the specific assessment expectations laid down in subject guidelines. Teachers use a digital assessment tool to assess the children against age-related expectations in all areas of the curriculum. These are shared with the next teachers, other teaching staff, and subject leaders to assist in moving the children on at an accelerated rate. Our school follows the ‘Development Matters in the EYFS’ document which enables us to fulfill the requirements of the ‘Statutory framework for EYFS’. Our EYFS curriculum incorporates the themes of a unique child, positive relationships, and enabling environments. English and Mathematics are given the majority of curriculum time and all mornings are given to these very important subjects. As well as English lessons there are separate Phonics / Spelling, Guided Reading, and Handwriting sessions. Both subjects have been broken into strands so that teachers can focus on particular areas for development for the class, groups, and individuals. For the other subjects, the school has developed a progression of skills and concepts for all subjects that are designed to cover the National Curriculum and also address particular areas for development for the children in our school. Each subject progression or ‘Learning Journey’ is broken into strands so that teachers can assess children accurately and tailor the difficulty of activities to challenge all learners. Along with the strands, there are unit planning frames so that children are taken through the appropriate steps whilst also providing them with a wide range of tasks. E-Safety is at the forefront of our computing curriculum. In each topic that children cover they will be taught to think about the consequences of their actions when using technology to solve problems. Teachers understand the importance of keeping children safe online and will plan opportunities for discussion within lessons. E-Safety will also be taught through PSHE and assemblies, where children will be made aware of the dangers of the internet. The E-Safety Group provides a consultative group that has wide representation from the school community, with responsibility for issues regarding e-safety and the monitoring of the e-safety policy including the impact of initiatives. Depending on the size or structure of the school this committee may be part of the safeguarding group. The group will also be responsible for regular reporting to the Governing Body. All Saints School is an ancient foundation known to have been in existence in 1676. In 1689, a new school was built and in 1763, the Reverend W. Purcell, the incumbent of Newton, endowed it with £200 for educating the poor. In 1821, the Reverend T. Gaskell, the Rector, set up the Newton Heath Day and Sunday School Trust. From this time, the Sunday School has always met in the School building. In 1829, the School became a National Society School with a Deed of Union, still operative, 'that the children are instructed in the liturgy and Catechism of the Established Church.' The old School, that stood within living memory in All Saints Street, was built in 1854. In 1947, under the Butler Act of 1944, All Saints became a Voluntary Aided Maintained School associated with Manchester City Council Local Education Authority. The present school building on the site of the old Rectory and part of All Saints Churchyard was opened on 7th September 1964. The School is equipped with a Nursery, Classroom block, dining room, hall, and stage. In Key Stage 2, children also learn to speak German. Children are taught in class groups and sometimes in smaller groups when support is required for particular skills or concepts. Classes throughout the school are taught using both subject and topic approaches. Half termly topics have been set to ensure that the appropriate programs of study and attainment targets are covered. Although aspects of English, Mathematics, and Science are included in topic work, there is considerable emphasis on the teaching of these core subjects as discrete elements of our curriculum. We make no excuses. Our 4 Value: CONFIDENCE RESPONSIBILITY INTEGRITY SUCCESS Ark All Saints Academy specializes in Mathematics and all Year 7 and 8 scholars follow the Mathematics Mastery program. At KS3 there is a strong emphasis on the teaching of core subjects, every scholar in the school, regardless of age or ability gets at least one lesson of Maths, English, and Science every day. If scholars are behind in these subjects we will give them extra time and support so that they can catch up and keep up. To be successful at school, in higher education, and the workplace, well-honed literacy skills are vital, so scholars are given 30 minutes of guided reading sessions four times a week. Scholars who have specific weaknesses in their reading follow the Read, Write Inc. program from Ruth Miskin Literacy. They are taught in small groups by trained staff for an additional four hours a week. Additionally, in Year 7 scholars have six lessons of English each week. The specific emphases of the academic curriculum are: Developing scholar mastery of skills, knowledge, and understanding from KS3 which are required for A-Level success. The curriculum is designed back from the intended endpoint – enabling scholars to reach university. At least one session of English and one session of Mathematics every day for every scholar. Daily reading and timetables practice of 30 minutes for all scholars in Years 7, 8, and 9. RE will be mandatory for all scholars in all years – This will include aspects of citizenship and SMSC. We believe that everyone has a talent. At Ark All Saints Academy we aim to find that talent and to support the scholar in developing it. We have a program that enhances each of the talents we find. Once ‘discovered’ we will reward and celebrate based on the way that talent enhances our community.
