We are a small and friendly one-form entry school in New Barnet set in extensive grounds with spacious classrooms and excellent outdoor facilities on the edge of Hadley Wood. Exciting times at Litchard Primary School. Following the amalgamation of the former infant and junior schools, the new primary school opened its doors in September 2009. Since then the school has received a very positive inspection and gained a major building grant of nearly £3m which has resulted in a new building linking both the former schools. The new building includes a new 60 place nursery, four new teaching areas, a large fully fitted community room, administration and reception areas, meeting rooms, and a revamped school hall. The swimming pool has also been upgraded and has been fitted with new changing facilities. The campus enjoys an extensive area including playing fields, nature reserves, study areas, and excellent facilities which cater for the full foundation and primary phase. Standards remain high. The school continues to perform well in comparison to similar schools locally and nationally. The results for 2012 for both key stages in English, Mathematics, and Science are well above the national averages. The school has a very strong sporting record with pupils excelling at local and national level in a range of activities. We are also proud of our numerous achievements and awards including the International School award 2010, Eco School 2nd Green Flag award, Investors in People, Basic Skills Agency Quality Mark, ICT quality mark, and most recently the Investors in Families award. We believe strongly in working in partnership and look forward to developing these partnerships with parents and the community. Lister Community School is situated in Plaistow, east London, and is a specialist school in Music and Science. We are a mixed comprehensive secondary school and welcome both students and staff from diverse multicultural backgrounds. With almost 1,350 students, we are a larger than average school in the London Borough of Newham. The school benefits from being located in new and purpose-built accommodation on a single site with ample outdoor areas and the use of an all-weather sports pitch. Lister is the Resourced Provision for secondary aged Deaf and Partially Hearing Students in Newham. For the vast majority of their lessons, deaf students are taught alongside their hearing peers in mainstream classes. The Deaf Support Department is made up of a large team of Educational Communicators, Teachers of the Deaf and Deaf Instructors who work with students in mainstream classes and some, limited pre/post tutor sessions. Our school motto is Always Aiming for Excellence. We believe passionately that students in Newham have the right to as good an education as at any other school in the country. We challenge our students to work hard and to excel in every area that they can. We seek to equip our students to go on to the very best sixth forms and universities which they can enter. The effectiveness of this approach can be seen in the results at Lister which have improved each year for the last four years. As a result of our targeted work, we have greatly increased the proportion of our students achieving As and A*s in their final GCSEs. All students have the opportunity to study a broad curriculum, which will ensure they are ready for the top colleges and universities. We have excellent teaching in the traditional academic subjects, and a broad and rich curriculum with our students having the chance to study Computing, Photography, Mandarin, Pottery, Dance, Drama, and much more. Science is a particular strength, and we have achieved outstanding results in Physics, Biology, and Chemistry, helping us to support the aspirations of those students planning to go on to study medicine. Music is a great success story at Lister. We are the first school to be chosen as a partner in the Music in Secondary Schools Trust, supported by Lord Lloyd Webber. With the support we also get from Every Child A Musician, our Music department is one of the best-resourced in London. All students in Years 7 and 8 have their instruments. We now have a school orchestra and Lister students take part in an exciting range of performances, including playing at the Barbican alongside international violin star Nicola Benedetti and practicing with the National Youth Orchestra. New pupils are warmly welcomed into the school. We were the first school in Newham to introduce an Induction Fortnight, so that Year 6 students can come to us for two weeks in July and meet their teachers and get to know the students they will be working with. Our House system has been a huge success. Most lessons are grouped traditionally with students studying alongside their age group, but students are in mixed-age groups for tutor time and House activities. Older students welcome the chance to support and advise younger students, and younger students gain advice and guidance from the older students. Inspired by the purpose and achievements of The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), LIPA Sixth Form College focuses on acting, dance, music, sound technology, and production arts. Our students work towards achieving nationally recognized University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma qualifications, while at the same time benefiting from excellent teaching and the breadth of professional industry experience. LIPA Sixth Form College is a Free School for 16-18-year-olds, funded by the Department for Education, and open to students from Liverpool and the surrounding area. We offer University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma courses in a range of creative and performing arts disciplines, leading to nationally recognized qualifications. Influenced by the LIPA ethos of collaborative working across all disciplines and our emphasis on project-based learning, we can provide what you need to prepare for a wide range of creative and performing arts futures.
