Founded in 1867, Lyndon Institute is dedicated to providing a unique educational experience for our students that leads to a lifetime of learning and good citizenship. We are an independent and comprehensive high school for grades 9 – 12, offering a 150-course curriculum specializing in core and honors academics, fine and performing arts, and technical and career programs. The main 130-acre campus hosts 34 buildings, including the Main Building, Alumni Gymnasium and 650-seat Alumni Auditorium, the Elliott Memorial Library, the John L. Norris, Jr. Center for the Arts, the Monahan Academic Commons, and seven dormitories. The 300-acre Binney Woods forest, located on Burke Mountain, provides outdoor recreation and educational opportunities. We believe that the primary obligation of our school is to help every student to discover their individual academic, artistic, technological, and athletic aptitudes to encourage the development of goals appropriate to such aptitude and to aid in developing the goals for the betterment of one’s self and one’s community. Our students are encouraged to respect and value diversity and to be active and responsible citizens. In 2009, Lyndon Institute was one of the first two high schools in the U.S. permitted to offer an American high school program in China. We currently partner with four schools in China (Shanghai, Shaoxing, Heifei, and Fuzhou). Located in the scenic and the historic Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, our school is a key educational and cultural resource for our entire community. Our students participate in several community service projects. Several on-campus amenities are available to the public: the Bob Heath track (for fitness walking and running) the Simpson Nature Trail (hikes and picnics) the athletic fields (for youth programs) and other facilities host performances and continuing education programs. LI prides itself on being a positive presence and contributing member of the community. Lyndon Green Infant School is a popular inclusive school with a special unit for children with Cognition and Learning Difficulties. The partnership is a keyword here at Lyndon Green, and all those associated with the school, staff, governors, parents, and children, celebrate achievement in all its forms, value highly the contribution made by children with special needs, and enjoy working together. We share a campus with our partner junior school, and there are regular cooperation and consultation between the two schools to ensure continuity and progression for our pupils. Strong links exist between our school and Garretts Green Nursery School, and we also have close links with Brays Special School for children with physical disabilities, situated immediately opposite our main entrance. We also enjoy the mutual benefits of working with other schools, as part of a teaching school alliance. Lyndon Green Infant School, a school where the children are at the heart of all we do, and where each child is encouraged to achieve success and develop a love of learning that we hope will continue throughout the rest of their school career and on into adult life. But success doesn’t happen by magic. All school staff works together with the pupils, their parents, our governors, pre-schools and feeder schools, members of the local community, and various LA agencies. We have a well-planned curriculum that focuses on structured development of the basic skills within a broad and balanced thematic program with activities that can be tailored to meet the needs of all pupils, both the least and most able, with lots of enrichment activities to make learning meaningful and enjoyable, ensuring that the children are keen to come back for more! American History Professor Paul Searls has currently affiliated with study abroad agencies that offer various options to choose from. Students can study internationally and have all their earned credits count towards their respective degree programs at Lyndon. Northern Vermont University-Lyndon is excited to offer Vermont high school students an exciting program: the Early College Program. Early College will allow approved students to choose from various courses at Lyndon while exploring their choice of degree programs and experiencing the college academic environment. Each course completed at Lyndon counts toward both high school and College. You must be at least 16 years old and enrolled full-time in high school or in an approved home-school program to be considered for admission to the Early College program. All students in their senior year and their parents will be expected to attend our Financial Aid meeting in January. Families will submit both the federal and state forms to ensure the most financial aid they are eligible for. Please be aware that the federal government expects that the benefit of a college education is the students and the parents' responsibility. Although many of our students have a "0" Expected Family Contribution (EFC), The U.S. Department of Education will determine how much you can afford to pay for College.
