Lyonsdown School is an independent prep school in New Barnet, North London. We teach children from the age of 3 through to 11, and pride ourselves on preparing our pupils for senior school entry to some of the UK’s top independent and maintained schools. We provide a secure environment, a broad curriculum, and excellent personal support for each pupil to ensure that they learn in a happy, inclusive environment where every child can thrive and achieve their full potential. We also work in partnership with a number of our parents to provide excellent pastoral care to improve pupil confidence and prepare them for the journey ahead. At Lyonsdown School, we endeavor to nurture potential and ability and recognize that success comes in many forms. What matters most is that children enjoy learning. We are equally thrilled by the hard worker who does their very best as we are by those pupils who achieve senior school scholarships. It is not just resulted from that matter, but how each pupil arrives at those results. There is a wide range of lessons to learn and at Lyonsdown we want your child to have as broad a range of experience as possible. Studying insects through a microscope, learning lines for a play, mastering French verbs, taking up an instrument, or representing the school on the sports pitch: every day at Lyonsdown is an opportunity. Lyonsdown has a long history of developing children of character. I want our pupils to be thoughtful and kind, capable of engaging in interesting conversations, and to be courteous at all times. We are a nurturing community that celebrates our pupils’ varied and wonderful efforts, giving them the all-important encouragement they need to grow. We aim to ensure that every child has a sense of pride in their achievements, so when they leave Lyonsdown, they will have the confidence to reach whatever goals they set themselves. It has always been my strong belief that if our pupils are happy, the rest should fall into place. We aim to provide education in a happy and secure environment where children can thrive and achieve personal excellence. We offer a broad, balanced curriculum embracing the seven areas of learning in The Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum throughout the school with emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. We develop independent thinking and an ability to express thoughts, feelings, and opinions and develop creativity and imagination. We encourage the development of confident, caring individuals and allow pupils opportunities to develop their human values, learning respect for the feelings of others, and developing confidence and self-esteem. We develop pupils’ confidence to participate in physical activities and to express themselves through the presentation. We work in partnership with parents and to provide a high degree of pastoral care, enabling pupils to grow and look forward to being part of the modern world. Our curriculum is largely focused on literacy and numeracy, but also provides plenty of creative activities to develop imagination and independent thinking. We aim to nurture all of our pupils according to their individual needs, whether they need to be challenged academically, supported, or given the room to express themselves and develop their talents.
