The school, situated in Llanelli, is happy and we are proud of the good reputation of our children. Our goal is to give your child a good start in life. Our school caters to children between the ages of 3 and 11. It is a bright and cheerful place with eight classes - Nursery, Reception, and Years 1 to 6. In addition to the classrooms, the school has a hall (used for assemblies, P.E., dinner, Breakfast Club, concerts, etc.), two rooms for teaching small groups, a library, and a small kiln room. Penygaer Primary School has a wonderful outside area which would be the envy of many schools. A grass slope, with woodland at different stages of development, has a roundhouse, a dipping pond, an amphitheater outside the classroom, a gardening area, and meadow areas. There are also play pipes, large musical instruments, whisper pipes, and seats, and all these things are linked by all-weather paths. More recently, all sorts of climbing frames have been installed, catering to all levels of physical development. The latest addition to our play experience is the Penygaer Play Pod, an innovative project to provide opportunities for imaginative, cooperative play. Our outdoor area is truly an inviting and inspiring environment for play and outside learning. Governors and staff work closely together to provide a high standard of education for all our pupils, within a happy, stimulating, and secure learning environment. Penybont Primary School is a community primary school set in the town of Bridgend. The school has over 360 pupils on roll and caters to children from the ages of 3 to 11. It is a non-selective, co-educational, day school. It is a lively and exciting school for pupils and their families. How schools assess progress and attainment has changed for Key Stages 1 and 2 (KS1 / KS2) as a result of changes that were introduced with a new National Curriculum. Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) has remained the same. Before the introduction of this curriculum, schools assessed pupils’ learning using Levels. By the end of the school year, a typical Year 2 pupil would be expected to attain Level 2 and a Year 6 pupil to reach Level 4 (These two-year groups are used as examples because of the SATs tests that all children sit at the end of Years 2 and 6). A higher-numbered Level would indicate greater achievement. One main aim of the new curriculum has been to place greater importance on deeper learning over rapid progression. Pentrebane primary school is an English medium school set in spacious grounds providing ample opportunities for outdoor play and activities. In addition to two playgrounds, we have a large field for sports. Alongside this is a woodland area that is used as an outside classroom to enhance the children’s learning through forest schools. There is also an outdoor structure used for outdoor learning. During playtimes, the children have access to tire parks, a willow shelter, a slide, a wooden climbing frame, a quiet seated area, a stage and a pirate ship, and a playhouse. This site is safe and secure, being surrounded by fencing and locked gates, this helps to provide you with the confidence and assurance that your child is protected at all times. There are CCTV cameras located around the outside of the school for security and safety. This building is on three levels and all of the classrooms are spacious. The learning environment is enhanced by colorful displays celebrating the children’s work. Pupils have access to male and female toilets on each floor. The headteacher and secretary’s office are located on the ground floor. Also on the ground floor is the foundation phase consisting of the Nursery, Reception, Year 1, and a literacy support classroom. Both nursery and reception have separate entrances and outdoor play areas. Our large hall is used for assemblies, lunch, PE lessons, breakfast club, after-school clubs, and our regular coffee mornings. “The school is a happy and welcoming community with a safe family atmosphere where all pupils have equal opportunities. The school places a good emphasis on celebrating pupils’ achievements and talents.” Pengam Primary School is a local-authority-maintained school within Caerphilly County Borough Council. The school is part of the Blackwood Cluster of schools and the local region is known as the Islwyn region. Around half of the pupils come from outside of the school’s designated catchment area. The school currently has 204 pupils aged three to eleven on a roll, including 27 who attend the nursery on a part-time basis. There are seven classes in the school. The headteacher Mrs. Witchell is also the headteacher of Fleur de Lis Primary School. Both schools work collaboratively to ensure the best possible outcomes for all pupils. Pupils, staff, parents, and Governors have worked together to achieve many accreditations. We have gained our Platinum Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. During the Summer Term 2018, the school gained the Bronze Cymraeg Campus Award for the development of the Welsh Language across the school. The school badge depicts a bridge, which is seen as very symbolic. Old maps and records describe the area as “BontAber Pengam”. At the time of the badge design, the school had a Welsh Unit as part of the school. “The bridge was seen as representing a bridge between the two languages so that mutual respect of each other’s language could be encouraged in parents and children. In more recent years it is seen as a bridge between Early Years and Secondary education. Pencoed Primary School is a co-educational, county-maintained community school for children between 3 and 11 years of age. We are an English-medium school, but some Welsh is also used as a language of communication with the pupils to improve their capacity to use everyday Welsh. The school is set on spacious grounds and has many exciting facilities. It was established in September 2008 when Pencoed Junior School & Infant School amalgamated. We have an additional site at Heol-y-Cyw for pupils up to Year 4. Admission to our school is for children who reside/move into our area. Our roll currently stands at 573. Pencoed Primary School believes that every child must be valued for their talents, cultural heritage, and the contribution they make to our community. They will be encouraged to develop their full potential in a structured and caring learning environment. All schools follow the National Curriculum. This ensures that all pupils study much the same work whatever school they attend. Although the National Curriculum outlines WHAT must be taught it allows each school to decide HOW it will teach its pupils. In Pencoed Primary School we have an exciting, dynamic curriculum that is firmly based on our Vision Statement. We aim to cover literacy & numeracy in the mornings and topics or themes in the afternoons. In this way, we aim to ensure “basic skills” are firmly rooted in our curriculum. The Foundation Phase places a great emphasis on active learning for children between the ages of 3 & 7. We spend a great deal of our time on “the basics” and even when studying aspects of History, Geography, or Science we try to ensure that pupils’ skills in literacy, numeracy, and digital competency are applied and extended. We also ensure that all the foundation subjects in the National Curriculum are carefully planned. Pencoed Comprehensive School is a mixed 11-18 Comprehensive of around 1100 pupils. It is located adjacent to the M4 motorway, but the area is semi-rural and close to the renowned Heritage Coast. Cardiff and Swansea are both easily accessible by road or rail. 2015 started brilliantly for Pencoed Comprehensive School when we received confirmation from the Welsh Government that we’d been categorized in Group 1 for standards and Grade A for the ability to carry out improvements. Consequently, we are a ‘Highly Effective’ school, color-coded as Green. Pencoed Comprehensive is one of only nine ‘Green’ schools across the Central South regions and one of thirty schools across Wales, out of 211 secondary schools. We aim to build on close community relationships and initiatives already established as well as develop new links, particularly with local businesses and organizations. Current school initiatives, either led by ourselves or in partnership with others, include the Senior Citizens Lunchtime Club, Keeping Up With Your Child Classes for parents, Pencoed Town Carnival, and the production of concerts and shows. The aim is to increase existing initiatives and develop further partnerships with the local community. At Pencoed Comprehensive School we try to ease the transition as far as possible by helping pupils to settle into our school community. Our recipe for success is working together with our excellent primary partners and keeping everybody informed. This year’s transition program ‘Moving On Up is proving to be an outstanding success! Pencoed Comprehensive is a happy and caring school. We have an extensive greenfield site with high-quality facilities in all areas. This is particularly true for sporting and performing arts accommodation which is also used widely by our local community. The school has a strong family and community ethos, exemplified by our unique House and Pastoral systems which are very popular with our pupils. We believe that a happy, healthy, and well-supported young person will then have every opportunity to develop to their full potential academically, personally, and socially. This year, we have begun to work very closely with Bridgend College, to provide new and exciting opportunities for our Sixth Form students.
