Purley Oaks is a thriving, three-form entry primary school, offering places from Nursery through to year 6. Our motto is: PRIDE IN EXCELLENCE and our ethos is based on five themes: CARING, SHARING, LEARNING, LISTENING, and OURSELVES. We strive to ensure these extend throughout everything we do.
The Early Years Foundation Stage provides a good start to children’s education. Teaching excites children and the activities and resources create high levels of interest. We have high expectations of all our pupils. Our curriculum, centered on learning challenges, is based on the needs of our children and designed to excite and motivate them in their learning. We have a very dedicated staff team and high expectations of standards in teaching and learning. Visitors always comment on the atmosphere in the school and how delightful and polite our children are. We expect children to work hard, but also to enjoy and achieve.
Our children are encouraged to take part in the wide range of extra-curricular activities available, from street dance through to science eco-club. After-school enrichment activities support the learning of a range of curriculum areas and enable children to apply the skills that they have learned to different situations.
We believe that the partnership between home and school is very important in the overall development of our pupils and we work hard to ensure that a school is a welcoming place. Staff are accessible and guide for parents to support their child’s overall progress and well-being. By working closely together and continuously improving our practice, there is no limit to what can be achieved.
At Purley Oaks, we firmly believe that every child will be supported, valued, and challenged. We are ambitious for our children and their families and are driven by our moral purpose to ensure that everything we do has a positive impact on the children’s lives. We are determined that our children will take pride in their learning and themselves and that they will strive for excellence.
Our ethos and values are disseminated to children across all areas of the school and curriculum. We hold regular assemblies to teach our children about each ethos theme and how this relates to the school and the wider community. PSHE lessons are also linked to our ethos and during every RE lesson pupils discuss social awareness and tolerance. Religious education forms a strong part of our curriculum. For two days every term we learn about the main world religions using a range of resources, as well as class discussion, children’s own experiences, and special assemblies. We also run various clubs where the children can socialize with different year groups, make new friends and develop new skills such as Zumba, dance, netball, football, art, maths, reading, and more.
Our pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, from street dance through to science eco-club. We also offer 60 places in our nursery, our breakfast club opens at 7:30 am and after our school club runs until 6:30 pm. We have a successful Children’s Centre, offering a vast range of services for children aged 0 – 5 years old.
