Ysgol Brynffordd is a Community Primary School, which opened in 1964. The school caters to boys and girls aged between 4 and 11 years. A nursery is also established at the school, which receives children who are 3 years of age and these sessions are held every afternoon. Ysgol Brynffordd also takes in Early Entitlement children. This means that children can start Nursery in the term after their 3rd birthday. Ysgol Brynffordd was proud to be a pilot school for Foundation Phase from 2004, so children from Nursery to Year 2 are taught in one unit by a team of very dedicated well-trained staff. The school is situated on a hill above the village of Pontllyfni, in the parish of Clynnog Fawr. The school’s pupils come from neighboring villages including Pontllyfni, Clynnog Fawr, Gyrn Goch, Capel Uchaf, Bwlch Derwin, and Brynaerau. From the school, there are excellent views of the Eifl mountains, and of course of the sea. The current school was established in 1912, and before that time, lessons were provided at Brynaerau chapel vestry. (1905). It is one of two outdoor plan schools in Gwynedd. 71 children currently attend the school. During 2008 /09, an additional car park was completed for visitors and school buses, with space for 15 cars and two school buses, an outside space for the Foundation Phase including installing a shelter canopy, gates, and re-surfacing the school playground. A new kitchen and staffroom have also been completed. A ‘Llyfni Vegetables’ vegetable selling company has been established and a strip of land has been developed for vegetable growing. There is now a willow house, ‘outside class’ with space for twenty children to sit when working, and a herbs wheel has been developed. Our primary school was built in 1950 to educate the rapidly expanding local community. We are a small rural school and we pride ourselves on our family atmosphere. Our full-time pupils are organized into four classes of mixed ability, with two year-groups in each class. Following the publication of the "Successful Futures" document by Professor Donaldson in March 2015, Ysgol Bryn Gwalia applied to become a Curriculum Pioneer School and was invited in November to help shape the discussions of the initial strategy document with the headteacher, Mr. Jones, becoming a member of the Strategic Design Group. For the first time, teachers will shape their curriculum. This has necessitated frequent visits to Cardiff to meet with other teaching professionals and educational experts. His first job was to help write one of the initial strategy strands, "Welsh Dimension, International Perspective, and Wider Skills". As part of this work, Mr. Jones presented this strategy paper to over 150 leaders of education in January 2017 in Llandudno. Currently, under Strand 3 & 4, Miss Allen is working on the Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience (AoLE), which is one of the six AoLEs that Donaldson suggests are needed to develop our young learners into the future. We are a well-ordered successful and happy foundation school, located on a spacious site with excellent facilities. The school's beautiful coastal location provides a quiet and attractive setting for the students to enjoy the full range of our amenities. We have long been recognized for the care and individual attention given to our children. Having 900 pupils across the age range of 11 to 18, we are a medium-sized comprehensive school in comparison to some other secondary schools which gives us the advantage of knowing our children well and being able to help them become successful members of this and the wider community. It is important that mutual understanding and trust should be the basis of our shared responsibility. Bryn Deva School is a 4-11 years Primary School with approximately 300 children on the roll. Bryn Deva School opened in 1958. Sited close to the banks of the River Dee, it is set amidst a pleasant residential housing estate in the thriving town of Connah’s Quay. The school is also bordered by parkland. The school site is large and 3 appealing, with copious playing fields, including football and netball areas and a full running track, a managed conservation area, a large hard play area, enclosed trim trail, and smaller playground areas, and a Flying Start pre-school on site. We have two members of staff who are fully trained in Forest Schools and we make strong use of our outdoor areas to improve the learning experience of the children. The school has excellent facilities including an iMac suite, 30 Chromebooks, 30 pads and 30 net-books, a spacious well-stocked library, a nurture group and a full range of additional needs provision areas, a capacious hall with a permanent stage and a full range of gymnasium equipment and extensive outdoor areas for the children in the Foundation Phase. Class sizes are deliberately kept relatively small, at least three members of staff in the Foundation Phase classes, and all KS2 classes have a teaching assistant for at least half of the day, as well as a teacher. We also have a full after-school club on-site running until 5.30 pm, and operate a holiday club in the summer holidays (8 am-5 pm).
