Ysgol David Hughes serves the catchment area of south-east Anglesey, a mainly agricultural area with some light industry which is characteristic of the area. This is a bilingual comprehensive school with approximately 1105 pupils aged between 11-18 and approximately 81 teachers and 42 support staff. We aim to provide our pupils with a broad education that includes elements of communication, literacy, numeracy, science, humanities, expressive arts, practical skills, and technology. Many subjects use aspects of information technology and we have made considerable investments in this field over recent years. The school also has a modern sports center with a dance hall, fitness room and large sports hall. The center is open to the public on evenings and weekends. Our science and technology departments place great importance on the practical nature of their subjects. Within the geography and humanity fields, emphasis is placed on fieldwork, and the Welsh and English departments regularly arrange visits to local and national theatres. While attempting to develop the rounded pupil we believe that the expressive arts (Music, Art, and Drama) are important and we are proud of our achievements in these fields. These can be measured in terms of school courses, our public performances and the success of pupils in the media, the Welsh Youth Orchestra, and the numbers who have progressed to follow a successful career in the arts. Ysgol Cynwyd Sant aims to create a safe and happy environment where every child is allowed to fulfill his/her potential. The school is situated in an elevated position above the town of Maesteg in the Llynfi valley, and children from several villages in the surrounding area attend the school. We are a primary school, with children from 3 to 11 years of age. On leaving us, year six pupils proceed to the local Welsh-medium comprehensive school Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd. This is the school badge, which contains an Oakleaf, representing the history of the school. Before moving to its present site, the school was called "Ysgol Tyderwen". Our school is a Welsh-medium school, with children from both Welsh-speaking and non-Welsh-speaking homes attending. The Foundation Phase curriculum is planned as a progressive framework that spans four years (3 to 7 years) to meet the diverse needs of all children, including those who are at an earlier stage of development and those who are more able. Children learn through first-hand experiential activities with the serious business of ‘play’ providing the vehicle. Through their play, children practice and consolidate their learning, play with ideas, experiment, take risks, solve problems, and make decisions individually, in small and in large groups. Initial Long Term Planning covers both the Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2 in the National Curriculum. Medium Term Planning includes termly studies for each class. The development of Literacy and Numeracy skills is crucial and is our main focus in every lesson across the teaching day. Cwmpadarn Primary School aims to provide a supportive community within a happy environment, where everyone is motivated and challenged to achieve their potential. We believe that our emphasis on quality and high standards, in both work and behavior, will provide our children with a positive attitude for life and a firm foundation on which to base their future learning. Ysgol Cwmpadarn Primary School is a village school in a town setting and there has been a primary school located in the village of Llanbadarn since 1873. The current school is situated one mile east of Aberystwyth in the village with 66 pupils on the roll. Over the past four years, the play ground and woodland areas have been developed and significantly improved to meet the requirements of the Foundation Phase, these changes have also contributed towards the school's credentials as an Eco-School, and have played a part towards the school achieving the coveted Green Flag Award. The playground is situated at the front of the school has a segregated infant decked area, a tiring trail, and adventure playground equipment. All pupils have the opportunity to plant their seeds, bulbs, and plants in the designated garden area to the rear of the school. The school grounds also have one-third of an acre of woodland which is used to develop the children's understanding of their environment, significant funding has recently been received to develop the woodland into a forest garden, an exciting project in action. Cwmpadarn has been accredited as a ‘Healthy School’ and has recently been awarded its fourth ‘Quality Mark’ for standards achieved in education. In 2009 Cwmpadarn gained the ‘Intermediate International Certificate’ for its ‘East West’ links and pupil/teacher exchange with Ireland and is now following this exiting development through joining the Comenius Programme in 2011 to further develop its international credentials with schools in France, Finland, Ireland, and Wales. This program of study also contributed towards the school achieving its 'Full International Achievement Award 'in the autumn term of 2012. Ysgol Croes Atti is a Welsh-medium primary school in Flint with a satellite school in Shotton, two towns on the mouth of the Dee estuary, in the county borough of Flintshire, North Wales. It has almost 200 children aged between 3 and 11 on its Flint site and a further 50 children at its Shotton site. They are taught in 8 classes in Flint and 2 classes in Shotton. In addition, the school has an early entitlement playgroup and Meithrin plus on both sites. Ysgol Croes Atti is a Welsh Medium Primary School within the Local Education Authority, at present accommodating approximately 220 pupils in the 3 – 11 age range at our Flint site, and a further 55 Foundation Phase pupils at our new Shotton site. We are proud of our links with our local Welsh-medium Secondary school, Ysgol Maes Garmon, in Mold. We see this continuation of Welsh-medium education as being an integral part of the standard in service that we as a school offer, and we are proud of the productive relationship that exists between our schools. We believe being fluently bilingual is an enormous advantage in life and we’re extremely proud that we’re able to play our part in the provision of Welsh-medium education from 3 years to 18 years in Flintshire through our partnership with Ysgol Maes Garmon. Every pupil who transfers from one of the catchment's primary schools will during the year be allowed to visit Ysgol Brynrefail on at least two occasions, in the Autumn and Summer Terms. An open evening will be arranged in school during the prior Autumn Term for the parents of new pupils to see the school environment and to meet some of the staff. we believe that it is very important to build strong links between the school and parents, therefore, we encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity to strengthen these links through formal or informal occasions during the year. If any parent wishes to make an appointment to see me, or the relevant Head of Year, to discuss any aspect of the school, you are welcome to call us to discuss or to arrange a meeting. Ysgol Brynrefail is a medium-sized rural community comprehensive school located at the center of the primary school catchment at the foot of Snowdon. These schools include Bethel, Cwm y Glo, Waunfawr, Deiniolen, Llanberis, Llanrug, and Penisarwaun. At present 694 pupils attend the school ensuring that it is not too large for everyone to get to know one another in a friendly and homely atmosphere. Therefore, transferring to Ysgol Brynrefail from one of the primary schools is not a frightening experience and new pupils soon settle down. Indeed frequent visitors and strangers alike comment on the warm, courteous, Welsh atmosphere as being one of the school's main features. New pupils should not be concerned.
