- The school is situated on the cliff in Borth looking out on Cardigan Bay where we have glorious views of our County, Ceredigion. The happiness and well-being of our pupils are of paramount importance and are at the heart of our day-to-day life in Ysgol Craig Yr Wylfa. We aim to achieve the highest standard of education in a safe, exciting, and inspiring environment and to ensure that every child fulfills their maximum potential. We have two classrooms situated on the campus –The Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2 classes. There is also a “Ysgol Feithrin Nursery” located on-site which is open every morning. We pride ourselves on delivering an inclusive, challenging, and exciting learning experience to all our children, and a balanced range of National Curriculum based activities is offered. An emphasis is placed on basic literacy and numeracy skills and we also follow aspects of the Skills Framework which highlights ICT, Communication, Number, and Problem Solving Skills in our schemes of work. Implementing Assessment for Learning techniques and listening to the voice of the learner is very important to us. Good discipline and manners are a priority and it is expected that each member of our school community adheres closely to the school’s discipline policy. We offer a wide variety of activities in and out of school hours, such as sporting events, Urdd Gobaith Cymru, day trips, residential visits, instrumental lessons, and many more. Also, we are proud to offer a range of After School Clubs regularly, including Cookery Club, Sports Club, and Urdd Club. Breakfast Club is available every morning between 08:15 am and 08:45 am. We are a happy and caring community and are proud of the caring nature and mutual respect that the children show to each other. To ensure that all efforts are rewarded, the Charter is based on the principle that every school follows challenging but attainable targets in connection with promoting the use of the Welsh language. The specific targets included in the Language Charter can form part of a school’s Welsh Development Plan. By identifying success criteria for each target - we have prepared an Implementation Programme that every school should be able to complete successfully (see Appendix). The Language Charter is based on steps that are deemed to be good practice, and that every school should therefore be able to implement. - Ysgol Craig y Don is a primary school in Llandudno, a beautiful coastal town resort known as the “Queen of the Welsh Resorts.” The school, on its current site, was established in 1977 and prides itself on the high standards of teaching and learning attained by pupils and staff. We aim to provide vibrant and relevant learning experiences which will equip each of our pupils for any challenge that the future brings. Our mission statement is “Enabling all to thrive and blossom as successful and complete individuals.” We aim to deliver this within a happy, secure, and stimulating learning environment, where the contributions and energy of all members of our school community are welcomed and appreciated. An education system aims to create situations and provide resources that will enable each child to develop a full personality, to develop and exercise all his or her abilities, to provide for the pupil by his/her age, ability, and aptitude so that he/she can become a responsible member of a bilingual society, able to contribute to that society and benefit from it, and to live in peace and fraternity with fellow men. To develop oral, literary, and numerical skills in the context of inspiring the child’s enthusiasm, imagination, and interest. To increase the child’s knowledge and to develop his/her powers of reasoning to assist him/her to adapt to a rapidly changing world that has more sophisticated processes and techniques in particular about information technology. To develop sensitivity, aesthetic appreciation, and leisure skills in the child. To provide particular attention for each child with special needs, e.g. for the exceptionally able and those with various disadvantages. To present ideas and concepts by employing lively and dynamic methods which will motivate pupils’ response. Every school must prepare and develop a comprehensive plan based on the Education Authority’s document. It is also a vital tool in communicating with parents, carers, and visitors as well as providing information about the various policies, practices, and procedures in our school. Our new website has been designed to give you a taste of our school as well as providing regularly updated information for parents but to find out more please contact the school. We are all extremely proud of our school and committed to providing the very best possible education for all of our children. We know that Ysgol Craig y Deryn is a school where children feel safe within a happy stimulating environment in which each child is encouraged to enjoy learning and develop a lively and enquiring mind. We also want children to develop the ability to question and discuss rationally and apply themselves to tasks and skills as they strive to reach their full potential in all aspects of school life. When any visitor walks around the school they comment on happy children engaged in their learning in a calm, fun environment. We are extremely fortunate to have a fantastically new and modern building with (loads) outside space. We take great pride in the fact that we have a happy school in which the children’s voice is heard in an atmosphere that encourages respect for all and respect for the environment. Every decision within the school is made by firstly considering what is in the best interest of the children. In this way, children lie at the heart of everything we do.
