Bro Helyg is the only Welsh-medium school in Blaenau Gwent and our pupils, aged 3 – 11, travel from all over the County to learn through the medium of Welsh. We are very fortunate in that we have a modern, purpose-built building and excellent facilities and resources which support our learners. Our school motto, “Dysgu Gorau, Dysgu Byw,” is at the heart of our belief that we need to teach our children to live fulfilling lives as responsible members of their communities. Every child has a right to be part of a caring learning community and this is what we aim to achieve, in partnership with parents, governors, and the Local Authority. The school will be responsible for ensuring that the school infrastructure/network is as safe and secure as is reasonably possible and that policies and procedures approved within this policy are implemented. It will also need to ensure that the relevant people named in the above sections will be effective in carrying out their e-Safety responsibilities. School technical systems will be managed in ways that ensure that the school meets recommended technical requirements. There will be regular reviews and audits of the safety and security of school technical systems Servers, wireless systems, and cabling must be securely located and physical access restricted. All users will have clearly defined access rights to school technical systems and devices. All KS2 users will be provided with a username and secure password by the ICT Coordinator who will keep an up-to-date record of users and their usernames. Users are responsible for the security of their username and password. FP will use a group or class log-on and passwords but need to be aware of the associated risks – see appendix). The “master/administrator” passwords for the school ICT system, used by the Network Manager (or another person) must also be available to the Headteacher / ICT Co-Ordinator. The ICT Co-Ordinator is responsible for ensuring that software license logs are accurate and up to date and that regular checks are made to reconcile the number of licenses purchased against the number of software installations Internet access is filtered for all users. Illegal content (child sexual abuse images) is filtered by the broadband or filtering provider by actively employing the Internet Watch Foundation CAIC list. Content lists are regularly updated and internet use is logged and regularly monitored. There is a clear process in place to deal with requests for filtering changes (see appendix for more details). Staff/s report any actual/potential technical incident/security breach to the Headteacher/SLT/ICT Co-Ordinator. Appropriate security measures are in place to protect the servers, firewalls, routers, wireless systems, work stations, mobile devices, etc from accidental or malicious attempts which might threaten the security of the school systems and data. These are tested regularly. The school infrastructure and individual workstations are protected by up-to-date virus software. We work together to give our pupils the best education and nurture in them a love and respect for their rich languages and cultures as well as those of the wider world. The school first opened in September 1993 as a result of the growing demand for Welsh Language Education in the area, with 127 pupils from Reception Class to Year 1. Ysgol Gymraeg Aberystwyth was the first designated welsh medium school in Wales which was established in 1939 by Syr Ifan ab Owen Edwards. There were only seven pupils in the school during the early years but by now the school has grown to over 400 pupils. The children come from the town of Aberystwyth and the surrounding rural areas. The school has grown constantly during the eighties and nineties as more and more parents have seen the value of a welsh medium education. There is a marked increase in the number of nonwelsh speaking parents that send their children to the school as they see the advantages of bilingualism. The governors in conjunction with the Education Authority have worked closely to ensure an appropriate building and purposeful resources to address the growth in the number of pupils. There are 18 teachers and over 20 support staff working in the school as well as 15 auxiliary staff. The team is enthusiastic and works conscientiously to raise standards and continually improve the school. We take pride in the high standard of achievement at the school and the wide range of extra-curricular activities is also important to us, with pupils experiencing success in a variety of fields from the Urdd eisteddfod to sporting activities and art. We aim to develop the whole child and to create a safe, happy and Welsh environment so that we can ensure the best of our heritage and culture is safeguarded and developed in the years to come. The 180 Year 7 pupils and their families who are now part of the Plasma community and welcome back to our of Year 12 students who have chosen to pursue their post 16 education at Plasma. It is a pleasure to report to you that the school’s summer exam results at both A-Level and GCSE were excellent and amongst the best in the school’s history and a reflection of the huge effort and commitment shown by the pupils over the past few years ably supported by both staff and parents. The majority of our A-Level students have been accepted to the Universities of their choice, the majority of which are Russell Group Universities. We wish them well as they embark on a new and exciting chapter in their lives. Congratulations to our Year 11 pupils who have attained an outstanding set of GCSE results. We would like to remind you of the importance of the ‘Edulink1’ app as a means of accessing important information about your child’s education and progress. In September 2002 the new school building was opened. The school can cater to 1,500 pupils including a maximum of over 200 sixth form students. Much effort has been spent to ensure the new school environment can enhance the academic and social development of the pupils in their respective year groups. Ysgol Gwynedd is a County Primary School in Flintshire catering for both boys and girls between 3 years and 11 years of age (Early Years, Foundation Phase, and Key Stage 2). The school, built-in 1949, stands in an elevated position overlooking the town of Flint and has breathtaking views over the Dee Estuary and towards the Wirral. The current (2018) number of children currently on the roll is 540, an increase of nearly 130 pupils since 2013. The school is housed in a large, well-maintained building. There are three wings: Elwy (Foundation Phase), Alun (Year 3/4), and Dyfrdwy (Year 5/6)consisting of eighteen classrooms. We have a spacious hall which serves as a dining room and gymnasium and a fully equipped kitchen therefore high-quality school meals are prepared on-site for pupils and staff. Pupils bringing packed lunches are supervised in their registration classrooms. The school is well resourced with modern equipment. We have invested heavily in our ICT provision which includes well over 60 iPads, an interactive whiteboard in every classroom, and eight mobile laptop trolleys each containing 12 laptops each. Both Foundation Phase and KS2 have access to school libraries with well over 1000 reference books. The school aims to develop a broad curriculum, which recognizes the importance of the 'whole child. We value the contribution made by all our pupils and endeavor to support and extend pupils so that they reach their full potential in a happy, caring, and secure environment.
