Our primary school has been here on Lower Baggot Street for nearly 200 years and we teach boys and girls from Junior Infants to the 6th class. Founded in 1827 by the Blessed Catherine McCauley, we are the parish school of St. Andrew's, Westland Row. We continue our proud history of education by working with children and families from the local area, other parts of Dublin city, and all over the world.
Our school crest represents that all of our children grow and work together. 'Respect' is a keyword in our school and this is reflected in how all members of our school community treat each other. Our core goal of developing independence in all children plays a central role in our teaching and learning as we deliver the primary school curriculum every day. Our school motto, 'Le Chéile', shows the high value we place on a meaningful home-school relationship as we help each child reach his or her potential.
Scoil Chaitríona Baggot Street is a Catholic school and by our ethos, we work together to create a nurturing and Christian school community. Our school also welcomes and embraces children of all faiths and none. We operate under the Patronage of the Archdiocese of Dublin and we are the mainstream school of the historic parish of St. Andrew’s in Westland Row.
We promote our ethos by encouraging respect for ourselves and others. All members of our school community – children, families, staff, and visitors alike – are encouraged to display tolerance, inclusiveness, and care towards one and other at all times.
We want every one of our children to reach his or her full potential and we hope to instill a love of life-long learning in every child we are privileged to teach. We are also highly respectful of the role of every parent as the primary educator of the child. Meas orainn Fein and grá don in.
We work with each child to make sure that he or she is supported where necessary and to extend and challenged as well. With this differentiation, we aim to keep raising and maintaining standards in the three core subjects of Numeracy, Literacy, and Irish while at the same time keeping all the other subjects of our curriculum alive and enjoyable.
For us, primary school is not purely about getting our children ready for secondary school. As well as learning the academic side of the curriculum and achieving results, we also want our children to develop all parts of themselves - socially, emotionally, physically, imaginatively, spiritually, and morally. It’s also hugely important to us that every child is given the chance to develop strong thinking skills and the ability to understand the world around them.
Each child is different. They all have their strengths, abilities, interests, and personalities. In our school, we recognize, support, and celebrate these differences and we work with each child with this in mind.
