St. Conleth’s College is a private Catholic school founded in 1939 by Bernard Sheppard which has for over seventy-five years continued and expanded upon its founder’s vision: to encourage the educational development of the child and fulfill the pastoral role inspired by the school’s patron: St. Conleth, a Sixth Century saint and ‘molder of precious metals.’ From Junior Infants to the Leaving Certificate, pupils at St. Conleth’s benefit from a rare melding of tradition and innovation which enables them to remain well-grounded yet adaptive to a changing world.
St. Conleth’s provides a happy, healthy, and safe environment in which students may develop their gifts and interests to the best of their ability. Excellence, perseverance, and mutual respect are encouraged in a spirit of discipline and cooperation in academic, sporting, and extra-curricular endeavors.
Since its foundation, the school has been imbued with the robust Christian values of its founding family and its patron, St. Conleth, a 6th Century saint and ‘molder of metals’. From the very outset in Junior Infants, students in St. Conleth’s today benefit from a rare melding of tradition and innovation, which enables them to remain well-grounded yet adaptive to our ever-changing world.
I aim to continue the excellent academic standards set by my predecessors. My vision for St. Conleth’s is that of a modern, innovative school while still retaining the warmth and family atmosphere that it is renowned for. A place where the boys and girls can realize their maximum potential in all areas of development and “be the best they can be.”
St. Conleth’s Preparatory and Junior School welcomes boys and girls from ages 4-12 (Junior Infants to Sixth Class). With an average class size below twenty, personal attention to each pupil is assured and a more inclusive and holistic approach to education is emphasized. The recently developed Preparatory School has been a welcome addition to St. Conleth’s. The youngest Conlethians benefit from sharing in all the social, educational and recreational aspects of the larger school, from computers to gymnasium to cafeteria, yet they also have the sense of belonging and security that having their purpose-built facility provides.
Each pupil follows the standard primary school curriculum as set by the Department of Education and Science, preparing him for entrance into secondary school. This core curriculum is augmented by tuition in subjects such as French, Music, Speech and Drama, Art, and Information Technology. Religious Education follows the prescribed Catholic program, and the boys are prepared for First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Welcome to St. Conleth’s Junior and Preparatory School! The boys and girls of St. Conleth’s love coming to school each day. They do work hard at all their subjects but also have a lot of fun, taking part in interactive lessons and working on innovative reports and projects. Our classroom walls are just full of them! In addition to the traditional subjects, music, drama, French, ICT, and art are all on the agenda, as well as a variety of sports and class outings, both during the school day and as part of the after-school program. Every day our goal is to send my pupils home a little bit more tired than when they came in, but also a little bit smarter and a little bit happier!
