- We aim to provide a firm foundation for pupils through a broad, balanced, and enjoyable education, whilst placing high emphasis on the basic skills of reading, writing, and maths. We place a high priority on establishing good links with parents, as we know that children thrive when home and school work together. Our School Aims: We will create a happy, vibrant, and interesting school that is welcoming and safe for all. We will provide a balanced, inspiring, and fun curriculum, which is supportive, challenging, and relevant to all children. We will encourage a love of learning, and develop children’s life skills, which they can carry forward into future learning experiences. We will ensure that all children are treated equally and fairly in all aspects of school life, to allow them to reach their full potential. We will celebrate our similarities and differences, and treat everyone with kindness and respect. We will all take responsibility to care for our world and all who live in it. Staff will work together to develop a supportive and hardworking team, one that encourages co-operation and respect. Our school will foster a supportive partnership with parents and the wider community by keeping everyone informed and involved. There is a designated First Aid station and mobile kits are placed at strategic points around the school. All injuries, however minor, are recorded in an accident book. If any issues arise which cause us concern, then we shall contact you, therefore emergency contact details are vital. If a child has a bump to the head we will notify you by a phone call or a message at the door depending on the severity of the bump. Children in school are the responsibility of the School Health Service rather than the Health Visitor. There are now a group of three nurses attached to the school who can offer advice on health problems. They are also able to access advice and support when children fail to progress in school. Please ring the school for an appointment. View full school
- "At Risca Community Comprehensive School all staff are committed to the education and well-being of each child who joins us. As a relatively small school, we get to know all the children quickly, develop their talents and support them as necessary. We aim to maximize potential. We want to make a difference, to make sure that everyone leaves us having achieved academically and having had opportunities to get involved in all the activities we have to offer." We expect this system to improve the services we can offer students and staff significantly, with benefits including improved security for handling cash transactions in the school and a reduction in queuing time This is a technology that is already used successfully by thousands of schools. We have given presentations already to pupils in assemblies. Further information for parents can be found on the reverse of this letter. We would like to make it clear that RCCS will comply at all times with Data Protection Act and with the provisions of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (which comes into force in September 2013) regarding the use of biometric data. For your child to use the biometric system, you will need to sign and return the attached form. We would offer an opportunity to opt-out for those pupils who, upon consideration, would prefer to use alternative forms of identification. We are looking forward to working with you and your child over the next five years. 2012/13 was an outstanding year for the school. We achieved our best results at Key Stage Three for the fourth year running, and just ten days ago we received the GCSE results for last year's Y11 which showed a massive increase of 19% in the number of pupils gaining 5 GCSEs at C or above, and that follows a 10% increase the previous year. The figure for 2013 is an impressive 73%! We made improvements in all major indicators, all but two pupils gained at least five GCSEs, and no one left without qualifications. They were also the best results for the school for the second year running- a credit to students and staff. We sure our new pupils will work hard to ensure the success continues- they certainly started very well today. Over the summer we have completed a lot of work refurbishing parts of the school to make it a more pleasant learning environment, painting, fitting blinds, and replacing old classroom furniture. The refurbishment of the toilets has been delayed but will go ahead this month. We also have a new catering service. View full school
