Config Comprehensive is a friendly, caring, and supportive school that places people and relationships at its core. Our aim of striving for excellence underpins our determination to achieve the very best for our pupils: we do our very best to ensure that every pupil who comes through our doors has the opportunity to be successful, and we ensure that learning opportunities are provided to make this a reality. We are delighted to work very closely with five local Partner schools. At Cynffig the Transition of pupils from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 is of the utmost importance. As a school, we are continually striving to nurture the positive primary partnerships, which exist with our associate primary schools. In geographical order, they are Cefn Cribwr, Mynydd Cynffig Primary, Pyle, Afon y Felin, and Corneli. To be able to work so closely with five excellent and very high-performing schools is a privilege, and our partnership is highly productive. Throughout the school year, visits take place, which is aimed at making future Year 7 pupils feel comfortable and confident in their future new surroundings. It is our genuine desire that all pupils will experience a smooth transition, with continued personal and academic development for all. Year 5 and 6 pupils are given numerous opportunities to experience a taste of ‘Comprehensive life’ through several initiatives which take place each year. Config is always delighted to collaborate and share good practice with our Primary colleagues to secure and demonstrate progression from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3. Config Comprehensive Sixth Form is a friendly, caring, and supportive environment that places people and relationships at its core. We value the relationships we establish by working together: pupils, staff, parents, and the wider community. We do our very best to ensure that every pupil who comes through our doors has the opportunity to be successful, achieve the highest standards, and become an individual who makes a full contribution to society. These aims are achieved through strong partnerships with each pupil and their families, the individual support we provide, and the wide range of learning opportunities we offer. The Sixth Form Learning Leader and Challenge Tutors provide academic and personal support for every pupil. Every Sixth Form pupil is supported and guided receiving daily contact with a member of the Sixth Form Pastoral Team, to develop their skills, prepare for life beyond school, review their progress and explore higher education routes. We offer an extensive PSE program that supports pupils with citizenship, health, and higher education. This is an important broadening component of our Sixth Form. At Mynydd Cynffig Primary School will be one where s/he can learn in a happy and safe environment, where s/he will develop and apply their skills and knowledge to a range of challenges and where s/he will build positive memories of their school experience alongside our excellent teachers and support staff. Currently, our school is organized on two separate sites within the village of Kenfig Hill in the County Borough of Bridgend, South Wales. The Foundation Phase (formerly Infant) Department, based on the Commercial Street site, accommodates approximately 220 children ranging in age from 3 – 7. These pupils are organized into eight classes. The Key Stage 2 (formerly Junior) Department also accommodates approximately 220 pupils ranging in age from 7 - 11 based on the Pwllygath Street site. These pupils are also organized into eight classes. As a recently-amalgamated school, one of our many aims is to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our pupils. We look for quality in all of our activities so that our children become confident, well-mannered, and well-behaved individuals who can work cooperatively and collaboratively as well as developing their independence. We encourage our children to be respectful and responsible and to develop an awareness of their place within our school community, the community of Kenfig Hill, in Wales, and the wider world. As a school, we fully recognize the important role parents play in their child’s development as a learner. Mynydd Cynffig Primary School encourages high standards in all aspects of school life. Pupils and their parents are valued as individuals and any ideas or opinions of any kind will be given full consideration. A caring ethos and good standards of behavior are actively encouraged. The school keenly promotes the importance of living values, including caring, friendship, honesty, trust, etc. At the beginning of each school year, pupils are engaged in the selection of the values we will promote for the forthcoming year through ‘Value of the Month’. Assembly time, circle time, and class discussions are used to deliver this values program. Democratic decision-making is a skill we actively promote at the school. Indeed, we have several Pupil Councils, for example, School Council, Eco-Committee, Sports Council, and Crew Cymraeg, in place to ensure that the opinions and ideas of our children are heard and valued.
